Despite my (somewhat witty) name, I’m really not all that scary. You want to know who is? Maybe “Scary Mommy” isn’t fitting… How’s “Terrifying Mother Fucker?” Yup, that’s more like it.
It takes an awful lot to get me worked up about politics, but worked up, I am. I am furious and scared and perplexed. I frequent some mommy chat boards and have read that people are voting for her simply due to her gender. Because she’s a mom and has cute shoes? That’s fucked up. Buy the heels, not the VP. I’m all for getting a woman into the White House, but not this woman. Not this year. I’ve also read that “she’d be fun to sit down and drink coffee with.” Ummmm… I don’t personally want to sit down and share hot drinks with a self professed pit bull, but whatever floats your boat. And this ain’t about coffee, folks.
Just why do I feel so much malice towards her? Thanks for asking. She is inexperienced, unprepared and more importantly, I disagree with her on every single issue that is important to me. She is Pro-life even in the instance of incest or rape. She wants to teach creationism in public schools. She would spell disaster for the environment. She opposes stem cell research. She wants a Constitutional amendment banning gay marriage. She is a lifelong NRA member & champion of right to bear arms. To name a few.
Please do your research and decide if she truly is the candidate you want to vote for, and if she is I’d love to know why. And I’d really, really love for you to reconsider.

I completely agree. Just because she and I have ovaries, does NOT mean that I should be voting for her. Voting should be based on facts, issues, stances and past behavior, not a warm fuzzy feeling or some misguided idea of kinship.
Let’s wait for the RIGHT woman and then take her to the White House.
Just discovered your blog and after reading this post…..I am in love.
Scary is a great word to describe her. And scarier still is the way people are drinking the Sarah Palin kool-aid by the gallons.
I have been watching the whole Palin madness unfold in complete disbelief. And what’s even scarier is that she and Mc Cain are ahead of Obama. WTF!!! How is that even possible???
Scary scary scary indeed.
Sarah Palin is beyond a scary mommy, she is a complete hypocrite. “Family values” platform? How best to display that than to run around the country and ignore your special needs infant and teenage daughter in an unplanned, unmarried pregnancy at home? How did that abstinence only education plan work out for your daughter and her charming beau, Sarah? I’m sorry, but women are still the primary caretakers of the children we bring into the world. If you don’t want to put in the time and effort, but want to go off chasing your personal “pitbull with lipstick” glory instead, then don’t have them. My younger sister has downs syndrome and I have seen her mother, my stepmom, spend her entire life ever since advocating for Cindy’s needs and providing 24/7 care for her. This is NOT a job for a cavalier parent. Did you see how no one even covered that poor baby’s ears as the crowd cheered and yelled at the covention? No, poor little Trig was just a convenient prop to show how valiant and selfless Sarah was to allow him to be born. Which brings me to another point…the hypocrisy of her stressing that she and her husband CHOSE to have Trig, knowing he would be afflicted. Well, if she is so ANTI-CHOICE, then WTF???!!?!! The hypocrisy makes my head want to explode. Women, please don’t play into John McCain’s insult to your intelligence. Think of what you and your family need, a leader you can trust, who uses your tax money to benefit you, who makes the rich pay their fair share, who builds up the infrastructure of this country instead of sending all your money to fight more oil wars. With McCain, you will have wars without end. Where will they get all the manpower to fight these wars? Look at your sons. That’s where. My son is seventeen. How old is yours? Do you want to sacrifice him for a female George Bush? Isn’t that what stupid men said and voted for him, “he’s the kind of guy I’d like to sit down and have a beer with?” Don’t be a sheep. Think. Read. Learn. And then vote Obama.
I could not agree with you more. And thank you so much for your post. I am totally forwarding it on.
And, to lighten the mood:
http://junebugworld.blogspot.com/2008/05/lilians-vote.html
Oooh…this post is a good hook. I’ll be back for more visits!
PS. I think it’s funny that Palin supports abstinence-only sex. ed. and her daughter is pregnant.
Right there with you. I am truly scared for our country. I posted about this a few days ago too. She makes me sick to my stomach.
Canada or a Carribiean island is looking pretty darn good. If this election goes their way, I may ask DH to see if he can get that xfer to Ireland.
Hello Scary. Whoa I had no idea we were very different. Here goes. I will be polite:
First, good for you to voice your opinion. It will certainly oppose some other people, but it's YOUR blog. so say what ya want!! WOo HOo.
Okay, I would not back SP simply because she's a woman any more than a black person should vote for Obama because he's black. That's just silly. I will vote for her because I like her, though.
Um, She has more experience in office than Joe Biden, the other VP candidate. He has never been a governor, mayor, etc. Never been in an actual leadership role. Check it out.
http://www.votesmart.org/bio.php?can_id=53279
And I am pro-life too. If I had been a product of rape, I would be really glad that I was born before Roe V. Wade. It is a very sad and terrible thing that happens when a woman is raped. But it is not her fault. Any more than it is the baby's fault. And YES I think that's a baby inside her the whole 40 weeks. It doesn't magically start being a baby and stop being a "thing" at week 23 or week 28 or whatever.
Creationism in public school? Why not? Evolution is just a therory. There is no HARD evidence to connect one species (like monkeys) evolving into humans. There is a theory, but no evidence. So why can't we teach another theory? If a science teacher is smart, he/she will teach that NEITHER ONE IS PROVEN TO BE TRUE. the individual person has to decide.
Why is it bad to be a member of the NRA? Why is it bad to own a gun responsibly? NRA members don't promote shooting any person you feel like. They promote being a responsible, educated gun owner. If we have the right to bear arms, shouldn't we educate ourselves about them?
Gay marriage – that's a personal one. I don't want it either, but that is just one more reason I would vote for John McCain.
That's one thing I want to bring up: We are not voting for Sarah Palin. We are voting for Obama or McCain. She may have her own agenda, but how often does the VP actually control the agenda of the actual President? Did George Bush push anything into Reagan's White house? What about Gore pushing into Clinton's white house? Heck, Hillary had more presence there than Al Gore did!
Anyway, I appreciate all the links so I can check out what is being said in the media about her. I love ya, Scary, but I also love Sarah Palin. Guess y'all will just have to share custody of me. :>)
TOday I think you ar ebrave mommy. thank you posting what I haven’t yet. I agree whole heartedly. I am very afraid of the reaction the counrty is giving Palin. I get mad when I hear that she is the only one with “executive” experience. Personall I am tried of peple with experince. I want change. though I feel Obama is very LEFT and I fall some where in the middle. I just can not think this country can contine on the Bush path.
Thank you for putting this out there for a calm discussion.
Too true. I need to find some time to catch up on some more facts about her. Thanks for pointing it out. As an onlooker from the outside world she looks like bad news, and the fact that people are voting for her cause she’d be great to drink a coffee with?
SJ made some brilliant points too.
Here is a link to the vetting process Sarah Palin was put thru in Alaska in 2006. Judge for yourself if this is the kind of executive experience this country needs.
Yes we are voting for McCain or Obama. But McCain is 72, and is a cancer survivor with many health problems. Do we want this Palin woman a hair’s breadth away from the presidency? Is she really qualified for the highest office in the land, based on this resume?
If you don’t think the vice president has power, I give you Bush and Cheney. Who is really pulling the strings there?
Here is the link. Grab a cup of coffee, it’s long.
http://mudflats.files.wordpress.com/2008/09/palin-2006-vetting.pdf
Jess, we’re best friends for a reason.
Sarah- Yup, that’s the scariest part.
Theresa- I know. Amazing.
sj- I think I love you. I, too, was sickened by the parading around of her son. How long can you go? Very, I guess. Thank you for that link, I’m going to read it when the boys nap.
June Bug, smart kid you’ve got there :)
thegirlof510, yea. Clearly that approach is working. BAER.
Texan, While I don’t agree, I respect that you are educated about her and are choosing her for legitimate reasons. That’s the right way to vote. What’s so troubling to me are the people who don’t know her opinions and are just voting for her because she has a vagina. And I agree that we are voting for president, but with the one who’s running the age he is, VP really is a factor.
scargosun, no shit. Living abroad has never looked so good.
This mom, I wasn’t sure if I wanted to open this up– I don’t want to alienate people, but it’s my blog right? I can say what I want to!
Tash, there is so much information on her out there. More by the day…
I agree with texan mama. While I would not make the same decision as her re: working instead of staying at home with her kids, I do like her and what she stands for. (I am an attorney who chose to stay at home with kids instead of working 80 hours per week and making a lot of money.) I’m voting for McCain because of what he stands for. I know A LOT of women who believe in McCain and like Sarah Palin. Obama has done nothing other than run for office. He did nothing while in the Illinois Senate, and he’s done nothing while in the US Senate other than mindlessly vote party line…votes that have left the Democrat-controlled senate with a far lower approval rating than Bush. Obama is a good speaker, but that’s about it.
I was sent an email of the LONG list of books she tried to have banned from her town’s library. The list is enough to make it clear that she is frighteningly uneducated. I can only believe that her sphere of understanding is incredibly small and she is not the person I want visiting any foreign country or a heartbeat away from the Presidency.
Amazing mistake on the part of the Republicans.
“Vote for the issues not the gender.”….got that jewel off a t-shirt.
My Palin post this week stirred up a hornets nest. Lots of really nasty and horrible comments. DE.LETE.
Nice to see your readers are more well behaved!
the only thing sarah palin has done is make mccain look more agreeable. he, at least before this election started, was much more moderate (and i liked him better then).
i would have her be vp for 100 years (they don’t do anything) but i don’t want her as president for 1 second. she is truly scary. if i wanted to live in a country where the bible rules all, i wouldn’t live here. i’ll choose the constitution any day.
and by the way, this war isn’t “god’s war” as sarah said. it belongs to all of us, unfortunately. thank you george.
vote obama/biden!
I am a registered republican, but I suppose I should be registered independent because I vote on the issues not always with my party affiliation. While I lean to the right mostly, I am not happy with either choice. My largest frustration is that our government is corrupt. period. No matter who is in office, there is so much red tape its sickening. I love your post Scary Mommy, I don’t agree with you on some things, but I do love how you respectfully and intelligently stated your view. Nothing bothers me more than people who let there ignorance shine with a great big “McCain sucks because he does” type of mentality. Way to go :)
Texan mama said “Creationism in public school? Why not? Evolution is just a therory. There is no HARD evidence to connect one species (like monkeys) evolving into humans. There is a theory, but no evidence. So why can’t we teach another theory? If a science teacher is smart, he/she will teach that NEITHER ONE IS PROVEN TO BE TRUE. the individual person has to decide.”
Well yes both of them are just theories, however one of them is a scientific theory and the other one is a religious theory. As there are so many different religions it is not right for the public schools to teach religious doctrine schools to teach
-Robin
Texan Mama,
I appreciate your calm and rational delivery. However, I disagree with you on two main points. 1) Yes, while we are voting for a president, the VP is next in line and that cannot be taken lightly. This is even more of a concern because of McCain’s age. Whether we like it or not, some details about Reagan’s fitness for office have been brought to light. McCain is OLDER than Reagan was. 2) Biden has been in public office for decades. While Palin was a running for a tiara, Biden has been in government. There is a little thing called international relations and policy that no governor has had exposure to.
How many women were willing to vote for Hillary just because she had a vagina? Hypocrisy comes in all forms doesn’t it? Vote for what you believe in not for the gender or race for that matter. I like Palin. I agree with her on more points than the opposition.
SJ: “Family Values” comes in all forms like choosing to support your daughter in a very difficult time. Just because you tell someone not to do something and they do anyway doesn’t mean you are a failure but that the other freethinking person did just that. Thought for themselves. And my cousin has a son with down’s. Both her and her husband have wonderful professional careers and her son as well as the other children are loved and nurtured as well as a SAHM would provide. I admire your sister for her choice but you aren’t a bad parent if you choose to work. I do agree with “Think. Read. Learn.” But maybe the end should have been Vote for what you believe in not what someone on a blog tells you to.
Agreed, Scary Mommy. I vote for the issues, not the person or the party. I’ve voted both Republican and Democratic, but I’m neither liberal nor conservative. I do know I do not agree with Palin.
One thing I heard on the news last night is that 9 presidents in our history became while they were VP. Something like 20% of our past presidents…
President Palin? I don’t think so.
Bearsmommma,
I think you are missing the point. We are simply expressing beliefs, not issuing voting mandates.
Thanks for stopping by and commenting today. You know I wholeheartedly agree! I’m all for women’s rights, which is why I’m 100% AGAINST Palin.
Yes…Yes…Yes!!! I could not agree with you more and it makes me so mad when I read what people are saying….I can understand voting for her if you agree with her on the issues but do not vote for her just because she is a woman! For the record I agree with her on nothing and this mama is definitely for Obama!
I am very proud of you for taking a strong stand. The effect of this election will be dramatic on you, and most importantly, your children (otherwise known as my dear grandchildren).
We live in a democracy. That is a pride we should take in being Americans. We are a diverse nation. Mrs. Palin, however, seems to believe she has the right to impose her beliefs on others. To think that she could select new Supreme Court justices if something happens to McCain is a truly horrifying thought.
Yes, it wuld be great to have a female candidate for the White House in the future but I cringe to think she could be living in that house on Massacusetts Avenue in DC where I want the Biden family!
If you believe Mrs. Palin deserves to be Vice President, please look carefully at her opinions. The progress women have made will be set back decades if she is elected.
Thanks for the platform, my dear daughter. xxxxxoooo Mom
SOME FACTS….just saw on CNN tonight that Palin never had any books banned from the library nor did she seek to teach creationism in the public schools.
It was on Anderson Cooper and the segue into the story was about the rumour that Obama is a Muslim. Then they introduced the rumours about Palin.
Scary mommy–love ya back! Love your blog, even though I just found it yesterday, I can see already that we are on the same wavelength about a lot of things. I’m just getting into blogging, so I might be bugging you for tips at some point if you don’t mind…I’m the same Sj that sent you the restyled graphic yesterday. :-)
I am totally with you on this. Palin was not selected because she was the most qualified, strongest candidate; her selection was a despicable, political ploy. Anyone who has fallen for her simply because she’s a woman is not helping themselves at all; they do far more harm to themselves and the future of their daughters by supporting a woman because of her gender instead of the quality of her character.
And just throwing it out there — for someone who supports abstinence-only education and is so stoutly religious, she was pregnant with her first BEFORE she got married. While I am not usually one to judge on this at all (hell, I was conceived out of wedlock), when someone struts around on their moral high heels scrawling a hypocritical message across the media in red lipstick, they deserve to be called out.
Also, to those of you who are worried about the polls, don’t fuss too much; remember that pollsters cannot contact cell phones. Remember how many times you’ve heard a telemarketer/research type call, you’ve just said “not interested, thanks”, and hung up. Remember that more military people have donated to Obama’s campaign than McCain’s, and there are a large number of military families outside of the USA that will be sending in absentee ballots.
Thank you, thank you, thank you! I could not agree with you more. She scares the crap out of me! I can’t believe there are people who are voting for her based on gender. Thats just as bad as voting for someone because they are a man! If they were truly feminists, they would be against Palin. If we let her have it her way, women would have all there rights removed. We are in serious trouble if this is what America is thinking.
Good for you Scary Mommy – putting it out there! No need for me to tell you my viewpoints… I found website you might like – http://www.sarahpalinexposed.com – I am in no way saying it is all fact or anything, but there are some pretty funny clips (including the one where the McCain spokes person says that as the head of the National Guard she is involved in matters such as armourment and troop deployment. There is also a short clip where Cindy McCain speaks to why she is qualified because Alaska is closest to Russia and “she knows what’s at stake.” Jon Stewart also has done some fabulous clips that show the other side speaking out of both sides of their mouth. Check it out when you need a laugh – it might lower your BP. I am also sending you an article soon…
I agree 100% with Texan Mama!
Obama will raise everyone’s taxes then everyone will be in the poor house.
Vote McCain/Palin!!!!!!
Lipstick,The book banning stuff does seem somewhat fabricated, which is why it wasn’t on my laundry list of why I can’t stand her.
But I have found numerous quotes about teaching creationism…”She’s in favor of teaching both creationism and evolution in the public schools. “Teach both,” she said in a 2006 gubernatorial debate. “Don’t be afraid of information.”
Anonymous @ 4:20, you are so very eloquent. Thank you for your opinion on this and the other post. Can’t wait to hear from you again!
The stem cell thing is enough for me.
I dislike McCain too. Don’t even have a real reason.
i read a few of your previous posts. i like your style lol. from our perspective way down here at the end of the world, sarah palin is the SCARIEST sort of republican – the gun-toting, bible bashing kind.
*shiver* heaven help us (you!)
Yikes! I so love you. But I also really like Palin.
I don’t think people should vote for her (or anyone) just because of her gender. But did people support Hillary just because of her ovaries…?
Didn’t have time to read all of the comments – but I will…
And I’ll probably have torches burned in front of my house when I (get around to) talking about my reasons….
PS: Can you make me a Pitbull with lipstick badge??? :)
Politics is so not my thing…I don’t have anything intelligent to add to the conversation other than, I’ll be voting in my first Presidential election this November.. (I know it’s shameful)
I’ll be voting for OBAMA for damn sure.
All I can say is I’ll be so glad when November 4th is here and all this is over. Of course, I should add that I’m voting for Obama. Even though half my family is racist and totally pissed at me. As if I care. It was a really eloquent post, by the way. :)
Once upon a time there was a woman, and her name was Hillary Clinton, and she was awesome — but somehow, we let her go. And now, faced with her complete opposite, we are all one mistake away from hell on earth.
Let’s all get it right and vote for Obama.
Danielle, I don’t think Obama voters are known for going around burning torches in people’s yards…just sayin’.
Looking forward to reading why you support Palin being (all too likely, given McCain’s age and health history) the next president of the united states. What qualifies her to hold the position?
A-f’ing-men to that! SO well said.
Thanks for a great post! I know you have a broad following of readers, and it’s nice to know there are lots of moms/women who aren’t buying into her.
Give the women of the country some credit. Do you really think that we’d vote for her because of the shoes or the vagina. There’s a lot more to it… Just like there is a lot more to Obama than us making history and getting a black president in office. And I’m so very dissapointed to see all of the women out there tearing someone down – VP candidate or not – for taking on a career and raising children. Maybe you’ve missed it, but many women successfully balance career with family and many amazing husbands are stepping up to help more around the house, with the family, homework, and making dinner. The glass ceiling is being broken – where’ve you been? I completely trust my husband to take on a little more of that when I have to put in a little extra at work and I’m proud that we are able to partner on all of this. Random comments and issues aside, I’m dissapointed in the people – women nonetheless – who are being so closed minded. You’re tearing apart her family. The day after her speech even Obama came out against that. I don’t know who I’m voting for yet, but I wouldn’t be proud to be associated with the position being presented here.
On a lighter note, those on either side of the fence might enjoy this… http://www.nbc.com/Saturday_Night_Live/video/clips/palin-hillary-open/656281/
Amber,
I think it’s great that she’s raising children and having a career. Whoopdie-fucking-do. Seriously, that’s fine. Great.
It’s the fact that she’s so hypocrytical about it that gets me. We shouldn’t teach sex ed because everybody should abstain, but both she and her daughter were knocked up before marriage. Huh? Practice what you preach.
As a MOTHER, guns in school scare the shit out of me. I cannot relate to a mother who believes in ones right to carry a gun when most school shooting originate that way. No civilian NEEDS a gun. Period.
And I don’t think she truly stands for women at all. She’s the least feminist woman I can imagine. Like I said, I would LOVE a woman in office. Not her though.
But, yes, that clip is hilarious. Tina Fey nailed it!
Actually the creationism/abstinence only/book banning ,etc. crap has all been DEBUNKED.
If you get informed, you’ll vote for McCain/Palin. It’s Obama who is the scary one. Far leftwing radical who will push this country towards his favorite – Marxism. No thanks!
Hopefully more ads are coming to remind people of his 20 year church that is black separatist. Far, Far Left. Even Oprah left it was so bad.
Go McCain/Palin!
P.S. If anyone is pimping the kids it’s Obama. They’ve been on entertainment shows and all the magazines.
Wow. Not to creep you out. But I love you.
I found a button over at Half Passed Kissin Time’s blog, clicked on it and found you.
I am putting your awsome buttons on my page, I will feature you for my Friday’s Featured Blogger next week.
You are funny, honest. And damn you had me at Scary Mother Fucker on this one.
I will SO be back for more! Who needs sleep!!
I still like you. Even if you are a democrat.
Um, I pink puffy heart this post. Love it.
Wow, this really got some people worked up. Its a good post and maybe some people jsut can’t stand you read the truth. Good Job!
