The Birthday Project

Welcome to the Scary Mommy Birthday Project! The Birthday Project began when kids saw their mothers helping other mothers through Scary Mommy Nation and wanted to get involved with the giving. The Birthday Project will provide children in need with a birthday present they otherwise would have gone without, because no mother should be unable to give her child a gift on their special day.

Applicants: • To be eligible for The Birthday Project, you must be a member of the Scary Mommy Community, with at least 100 posts on the message boards.

• You must be financially struggling and otherwise unable to provide a gift for your child.

• One application needs to be submitted per child.

• Applications should be submitted no less than two weeks before your child's birthday. (Please allow at least four weeks for international shipping.)

• Toys are broken down into age groups and will arrive wrapped and ready to give (with the exception of Brica – babies aren't impressed with gift wrapping!) Please pick the age-appropriate category and "shop" for a toy:

Toddler toys (ages 1-3)

Pre-School toys (ages 3-5)

Elementary toys (ages 8-10)

Tween toys (ages 10+)

• Once you have your toy picked out, you can apply for it here. Have fun!

From the bottom of my heart, I want to thank you. Today, I came home to a toy for my son, who turns two on September 3rd! The past two years have been hell on me, with my husband out of work, and his unemployment running out back in April has put the stress of paying ALL the bills solely on me. I don't make much, and knew his birthday probably would be a couple of dollar store items and maybe a cake. Seeing that toy sitting on the dining room table made me cry. He won't probably remember how special this toy is, but I always will. Thank you, so much. For seeing that mommies like me sometimes need help, a shoulder, a hug, or a laugh… and for making it possible for us to come together. Most of all, thank you for the smile that will light my boy's face when he opens his gift on his 2nd birthday.

Thank you ladies from the bottom of my heart. I am crying tears of joy! My son's birthday gift arrived just now! I cannot stop crying! I cannot believe how kind you ladies are! You do not even know me and you still went out of your way to help me. The gift is even wrapped! Your new birthday project is awesome and a blessing to say the least! You even must have rushed it — I just sent the request last week. There is a place in heaven for all of you! OMG you have nooooooo idea how happy you are going to make my little guy! Thank you, Thank you, Thank you!

From the bottom of my redneck heart, thank you! I had applied for a gift from the birthday project for one of my kiddos who turns 5 on the 25th of this month… The mailman probably thought I lost my mind when I was crying just because he handed me a package. It has been safely tucked away so inquiring little fingers won't find it before his birthday. I don't have the words to express how much this means to me. my family has been going through one of the hardest times of our life and something like this is such a huge blessing. Just to know that despite the crap he will still have a birthday gift! The site alone is such an amazing place, then to add this… Well, I am just at a loss.

I just want to say thank you from the bottom of my heart for everything you have done. I just received the birthday present for my ds13 yesterday thanks to SMN. I wasn't expecting it that soon! He saw me putting the box up & asked what it was. When I told him it was a birthday present, his eyes lit up! See, he rarely gets stuff for his birthday besides a few things he "needs". We just never have the money. But, he is a trooper & never lets on if he is disappointed or sad. He always tells me that it was the best birthday ever because he was with family. I really do have some special kids but I also am part of the best community! I love all of you

Can you help make a child's birthday a little brighter? We so appreciate your donation!
