Last night, I walked in on Ben and Evan coloring all over themselves with markers. {Again}

Benjamin, I scolded, you are the big brother. You are the one who needs to help teach Evan what’s right and what’s wrong. This is wrong. Don’t you understand that?

I know, mommy, he answered. That’s what I was doing: Teaching Evan what’s wrong.

Terrific.

You see that is the sort of response that I feel deserves a full applause. On feet, with cheers. Gotta admire the quick-wittedness!

Hmmph. Welcome to my life. With boys. And insanity. And many, many “teaching moments” I would probably rather forget (but which I know will provide many chuckles much LATER in my life).

Boys…I have two (7 and 10). Little girls are so foreign to me. I don’t know any of the little girl toys. I know WWE, skateboarding, and telling my 10 year old he MUST wear deoderant. And forget about aim – my toilets and the floor behind the toilets look like a Jackson Pollack painting.

As a Mom of two boys (5 and 2), I’m soooo with you. And, as an only myself, I muddle along trying to Encourage Hugs while ranting “Keep Your Hands To Yourself!” Encouraging them to become best friends while scolding them for hiding something from me. Begging them to work things out on their own while desperately hoping they’ll still need me.

Sigh. Parenthood is so weird.
