Cabin Fever

Once upon a time, we left the house. The kids went to school and my husband went to work. We got dressed and ran errands and interacted with people other than immediate family. We wore something other than what we slept in the night before (well, some of us did, anyway) and actually brushed our hair. We had mail delivered. Pizza, too. We got fresh air. We saw sun.

Now?

We’ve all gone fucking crazy.

Oh god, I feel your pain! We are stuck with nearly 2 feet of snow here and are going nuts. Thankfully we live in town, so we can trudge places.

Hope you all are faring better today!

The weather guys are kinda predicting snow showers to the south of us for tomorrow. We just never know what to believe and what to expect around here. Welcome to the ATL.

Spring, where are you???

Yep. I can’t even complain about the snow we got this week thanks to the fact that I know what YOU’RE going through.

Hope you’re still making it okay.

Hold the effing phone!!! Did Lillie sing a few bars from Kanye West’s Gold Digger song?!? I rarely watch videos, but I just tuned into that one more than a few times. I am dying right now.

I’m also strangely pleased that I am not the only mother in the world who allows her children to listen to what my husband refers to as “inappropriate” music. Currently on our playlist in the car? Eminem, Crack a Bottle.

Oh, yes. I am queen of inappropriate music/TV/movie choices. You are never alone in your poor judgment!

6 Katie February 12, 2010 at 4:03 pm

Oh good, swore I heard Gold Digger in there but then thought I was imagining it. Lily is my new favorite kid ever!

7 Marylin February 11, 2010 at 12:33 pm

Ooft, I know that feeling – we were stuck in for over a month over Christmas and new year. It was the pits! Hope the weather improves asap for you all!

I thought with global warming America should all be toasted at 120 degrees F and that there wouldn’t be a drop of moisture in sight. So what you’re experiencing just must be some sort of mirage. Right?
No, really, I’m sorry you guys are having that much snow. I mean, that’s really too much of a good thing. I hope it slows down so the ground can soak it all in and start to dry up a little before planting season comes, so the roots of the produce plants won’t rot in the ground from too much moisture, or so everything doesn’t get some moldy blight from all the moisture still saturating the ground.
I really think it would be a wise idea for anyone living back east to stock up on canned fruit and vegetables for spring, summer, fall and winter next year, in case the farmers don’t have great crops from all this moisture stuck in the ground.

The kids are going f’n nuts at my house too! Will this snow ever stop??

12 Scary Mommy February 11, 2010 at 3:55 pm

Ours FINALLY did. Apparently, we are expecting more next week. The local news isn’t even forecasting it, though, just national. They know we can’t handle it!!

18 tracey February 11, 2010 at 10:40 pm

Good lord. i actually watched that whole thing, wondering how long they would do the “la la la” thing and how many times they would step on each other before they started hitting each other. They never smacked each other! What the hell? My kids would have turned that into a brutal wrestling match…

I call my Evan “Evie”, too. Evie-Bevie, to be exact. :)

Things are getting rather crazy in our house, too – and I only have one kid to try to keep entertained! ;) I’m ready for Spring – but apparently Mother Nature is cackling wickedly as she’s conjuring up more snow for next week – last I heard it’s another 12 inches. After 2 storms throwing down a total of 54 inches where we are, I really don’t want anymore. I wonder if we could do a sun dance or something? :)

I’ve been calling it snow prison. Totally losing my mind…

27 Jennifer June February 14, 2010 at 9:42 am

The crazies never go away but eventually, as the kids get older, we start brushing our teeth and wearing clothes we didn’t sleep in last night. Sometimes, on special occasions, we do both on the same day!
Hang in there and enjoy them before they turn into evil teenagers, designed to break you, and leave you curled up and twitching on the floor, next to the cat food bowl, …begging for mercy.
Good times ahead.

Well it’s a little late in the game for me to post this but I feel as though the snow is JUST starting to melt enough for sanitation pick up, mail and school to finally resume business. We are in Mt. Pleasant (NW) and it took seven days for us to see a plow. Something like the BOY and the MAN from The Road but we managed to survive!

Oh. I hear you. We’re all sitting around in our own filth while the laundry piles up on this, our 6th snow day of the winter. I have all the time in the world to do the laundry…but I refuse to do it. I mean, really? What’s the point? We’ve got nowhere to go. Nothing to do or see. *sigh*
