Candy Flavored Vodka

Wondering what to do with all of your extra Halloween candy? Wonder no longer, my friends, and make yourself some candy flavored vodka.

Take a cup of sugar candy.

Ever since I was presented with skittles vodka last weekend, my mind has been racing with thoughts of different kinds of candy flavored vodka. How did I spent 4 years of college without knowing this genius combination? The two were major staples in my diet– why did I never think of combining them? It all seems so obvious! And so easy…

I made Candy Cane Vodka for Christmas gifts and it turned out great! Thanks for the post! (I’ve blogged about it as well, giving you some link love of course!)

WhovianatHeart22 10 months ago

Do I just leave it on the counter to infuse or should I go ahead and keep it in the freezer/refrigerator? Making this for my best friend and her husband, but I’m not experienced with alcohol. lol I don’t want to mess it up!

Sandie Cook 10 months ago

do you take the candy out after 2 days or leave it in? Great idea by the way!

alicia 10 months ago

My favorite to things together, who knew… Thanks!!”!

Laura 11 months ago

How long of a shelf life you think this has? I was thinking of making it this weekend for Christmas gifts.

Anna 11 months ago

did you use food coloring? Or did the candy just color the vodka it’s self?

Lisa F. 11 months ago

I am the same way with Mr.José Cuervo! Because of him even his cinnamon offspring I can’t stand! To bad because his cousins Margaritas are not so friendly with me. Oh well thank goodness for all the other types of liquors those are alllll my friends those I don’t discriminate;)

Elizabeth 11 months ago

In behalf of all teachers, this would be a great gift!!! Please give us liquor!

Sara 11 months ago

can I store it for a couple of months?

Christine 11 months ago

You can also dry and eat the gummy candies. Once they are dry the don’t taste like alcohol at all, but they are terribly strong! Be careful with them and don’t mix them up with the regular stuff. Lol!

Heather Gochoel 11 months ago

All our leftovers are chocolate :-(. No vodka for me.

Heather Knecht Temby 11 months ago

I like …. Thinking teacher holiday gifts – Candy Cane Vodka! Best teacher present EVER! lol

Amanda Mitchell 11 months ago

What do you mean “leftover”?

Kristen Whipp 11 months ago

I think I’m the only person on earth who’s not a vodka fan lol
I’d try it with rum though.

Dani Slavitt Greenwald 11 months ago

You can also soak gummy bears in vodka for a few days, gummy bears get huge, they are big candy shots :)

Mary 11 months ago

That crap’ll kill ya. We used to soak maraschino cherries in it and they’d burn. lol

Angie Pegram 11 months ago

We just made candy corn vodka last weekend!! SO YUM!!

Tammy B 11 months ago

How long will it keep? Does it have to refrigerated?

Cheryle 11 months ago

I tried the candy cane vodka but it came out pink. How did you get it so red?

Vicky 11 months ago

Even I can do this!!!

tan 12 months ago

Love the candy cane vodka idea is it just those two steps to make it? Does it turn red itself? Thanks

Michelle 12 months ago

This may be a dumb question…..but….do you have to remove the candy after soaking for a couple of days? or leave it in the jar when gifting??

Angie Dasco 1 year ago

what size canning jar is used?

Kimberly Timmons 2 years ago

if you want to make large amounts to share into many med size bottles to give as gifts what would be the amount of ingredients for each to have a great finished product

Pam Williams 2 years ago

Hi, love the idea of candy cane vodka but I have a couple of questions…What size jar do you use, how much vodka & candy cane sticks do you put in there to soak? Thanks :)

R 3 years ago

Your projects are SO CUTE! …. My recent one is crafty and useful, thought I don’t have pictures, sorry!

Warm Apple Pie**
**(My version, much higher ABV than most recipes on the internet)

32 oz apple juice
32 oz apple cider
8 cinnamon sticks
2 cups brown sugar
2 bottles (est 50 oz./ 1500ml) 190 proof grain alcohol

Result: Est 45% ABV/ 90 Proof Alcohol

Boil juice, cider, cinnamon sticks for about 20 mins, stire in sugar. Let cool completely (first on counter, then covered in fridge), then add everclear.

Made three (3) 32oz bottles- two to friends, one to age in cupboard.
We used Ikea “EZ-Cap” 32oz bottles (4$/ea), and for decoration, we added wire ribbon “lipstick” – the pattern of classic picnic red/white cloth, and a product description tag attached with thin twine. They came out VERY nice.
Due to the bottles being so large, I might put them in 1/2 pint (8oz) mason jars instead next time, and have many smaller gifts instead of a few large ones. We’ll cover the tops (before putting on the ring) with the same picnic-color fabric.

ann 3 years ago

Love this idea candy flavored vodka! But can you tell me how big or how many ounces the mason jar was that u used! Thank you

The lemon head vodka sounds delicious but I’m curious about how the candy cane vodka turned out. Is it something you could possibly add to your hot chocolate or coffee?

Is that a cup of candy to a pint or a quart jar? These look great. Oh the possibilities.

Valerie 3 years ago

Do you keep the candy canes IN the vodka when you give
it to a friend or do you take it OUT before you package it up?

Beth Dubeau 3 years ago

Am trying this now. It looks like the candies need to be stirred to dissolve and flavor the vodka.

Teresa 3 years ago

Beware, not all candies are good! I tried making sour patch kids vodka, only using the green ones because I wanted it green for St Patty’s Day. It created a beautiful hue, but the taste was horrid… If I come up with a bad infusion I always end up putting it into a jello shot and its perfect! :)

Adryon 3 years ago

You could use Sprite or club soda with a lemon wedge for the lemon drop vodka.

Maybe mix cinnamon vodka into a hot chocolate?

Kayla 3 years ago

What would you mix with red hot vodka and lemon drop vodka??

Scary Mommy 4 years ago

Nope, no food coloring– pretty, huh? :)

Hannah 4 years ago

Love this! Question – did you use food coloring or did the color from the candy leech into the vodka? I’m assuming that’s the case since you didn’t post anything about using food coloring but wanted to double check. Thanks! :)

Scary Mommy 5 years ago

I used the only size I could find- must be the most standard, but I think, like a a 1/4 candy to 3/4 vodka ratio should work…

debi9kids 5 years ago

Nah, nothing exact– just about a cup of candy with a jar full of Vodka— I’m not one for specific measurements. :)

Angie Zurfluh 5 years ago

Quick question…..Did you use exactly “one cup” of candy and mixed in with how many ounces of vodka? Or just whatever? Thank you so much for sharing!!! This would be perfect to make a couple flavors to put in my sisters homemade goodies basket at christmas.

I so have to try this! I can pass them out to Hubs co-workers and put them in family members stockings, and give them to the kids at bedtim…..oops did I write that??

I love the lemon head bottle! I do love a good lemondrop martini!

What a great idea… will have to find out everyones favorite flavor.. xx

Absence of Alternatives 5 years ago

THIS IS SO AWESOME! thank you! Somehow I think this will not gross people out like the bacon vodka that I made. :-) For those who cannot live without bacon, home-made bacon vodka actually tastes great, esp. in Bloody Marys. And they are really not that gross once you filter out the fat… LOL. I am so excited by this great idea. Thanks again. Btw, are you allowed to mail them? I guess not. But I should be able to mail “DIY kits” with candy and airplane-sized bottles right? YES!

Ayanna 5 years ago

OMG. I thought it didn’t get any better than vodka and watermelon. I absolutely MUST give this a shot (pun intended)!

Masala Chica 5 years ago

you are brilliant. really. love this idea. where did you get the bottles?

katiezoeb 5 years ago

I’m a little behind on this post, but I did this in college! With Jolly Ranchers, though. So, we would buy a bag of Jolly Ranchers and a CHEAP ass bottle of vodka (or, someone of-age would anyway) and each person could have whatever flavor candy they put in. We also put the Jolly Ranchers in those drinks….what were they called… Zima?? It was a clear, fizzy, girly alcoholic beverage.
You made these quite classier than ours every were. And, as a teacher, I would LOVE one! :)

ilinap 5 years ago

Ooh, I need to consider this for a 5:00 Fridays post. I infused vodka with peppers from my garden for my cocktail recipe today. Candy vodka is next on my list!

anna 5 years ago

There is a brand of vodka called Pinnacle that I have had on occasion, however, it has just come to my attention that they have several flavored vodka’s including, drumroll please, whipped cream and cotton candy!!! Imagine the flavor combinations! Check it out people!

anna 5 years ago

Pinnacle Vodka is great, AND reasonably priced.

anna 5 years ago

Were we at the same bar?!? I had skittles vodka last weekend too and have since been wondering where it’s been all my life? Well, at least in college. (I’m 37!) I was on a mini-vacation with my husband and am back to my real life now where skittles vodka doesn’t really have a place that often.

Rachel 5 years ago

We used to do this in high school with Jolly Ranchers and Zima.

I don’t drink much, but the bottles are pretty. And I bet my kids would be a lot more eager to drink the gummy bear vodka at bedtime, rather than the Benedryl I have to practically pour down their throats. You always have the best ideas! 😉

Sara -The Football Wife 5 years ago

Shots make me stupid, but maybe a little gummy bear concoction over some ice & seven up would be lovely.

Adryon 5 years ago

Last winter, we used a vanilla bean in one. Maybe that would help towards a marshmallow flavor?

Also using berries and the rinds from citrus fruits works really good too. They take a little while longer than the candy variety. I even used peppercorns and hot peppers to mix in Bloody Marys.

I have issues.

Kathleen 5 years ago

What a great idea!

KerseyGeek 5 years ago

I would be there in a heartbeat if I lived closer. They all sound wonderful. I like taking a few shots now and then AND making pretty things so guess what I’m giving for Christmas gifts this year. :)

This will reveal my true alcohol ignorance but I’m going to ask anyway because you all have way more experience with vodka:

Is there a best vodka to use to make candy vodka?

If I make this stuff and give as Christmas gifts I don’t want my giftees spitting it out in disgust and scratching me off their future Christmas list.

Cheryl 5 years ago

Me I am so coming over for some Lemonhead Vodka. I don’t want the candy cane one. I completely laughed out loud atthe thought of teachers getting this gift….but then thought wait a minute after having to deal with 28 kids alllll day you better give them an entire 6 pack of the stuff.

Back in college, I always kept a dish of vodka (or rum!) gummi bears on hand. Yum!

Fill a dish with gummi bears.
Cover with vodka or rum.
Put in freezer overnight.
Enjoy! (Hint: I ate them with a spoon, since the bears sort of melt)

Fabulous! And you don’t have to do shots with them – I’m sure they’d be great mixed with other stuff (like Sprite or flavored seltzer)!

Where did you get the pretty little jars?

I will be RIGHT over! And by the way, as a former teacher I will say that I would SO LOVE to get those cute little vodka candies as teacher gifts…like seriously. Your kids would all get A’s.

It kind of makes me want to drink Vodka… I don’t know if that is a good thing OR a bad thing. I don’t even like vodka?!

Many years ago, when I was in Austraila, I used to drink candy vodka made from those big round suckers…it was yummy but I had forgotten about it until you posted this. Thanks for the reminder…yours look much prettier though. :)

If I was still teaching and you gave me that, your kids would definitely get an A for the entire year!!!! Gotta love the ethics of teaching!

I think that we must have come up with 2,989 different combinations of alcohol, especially using Everclear. Sometimes I wonder how my liver survived.

Those are very cute! I don’t really like to drink very much, but I would like to have some of that!

Jen 5 years ago

Oh I love this!

And let me find a plane ticket and I will be right over. :)

Ummm, yummy! Where do I place an order? I can infuse the vodka, but cute jars aren’t in my repertoire.

That is so cool! Too bad vodka and I don’t get alone. We had a huge falling out back in college and haven’t been on speaking terms ever since. :(
