Five Going on Fifteen

To the Birthday Girl

February 3, 2010

Lily, my baby girl, my heart swells with so much pride and love for you. I am so very blessed to be your Mommy, and so filled with excitement as I think about the years to come. Happy, Happy Birthday, my love. I adore you.

On Dressing a Girl

January 21, 2010

As a young child, my mom dressed me much like a pilgrim. Well, maybe not a pilgrim exactly, but not like every other child on the block. My dresses and outfits could be described as classic rather than current. In the very best cases. And while I did look pretty cute sometimes, I didn’t exactly [...]

Although I don’t always remember my dreams, I am often haunted by the same one: I am back in college and quickly approaching graduation. Suddenly, I remember that there was some class I couldn’t handle and intended to withdraw from. Unfortunately, I never did withdraw, which meant that I had just been skipping the class [...]

Having a girl is hard. I mean, mine isn’t even six yet; she’s years away from puberty, and it’s still hard…
——————————–
I have issues with food. I am beginning a diet for the 397th time on Monday. The Monday after Thanksgiving, as I have every year that I can recall. I aspire to again fit into [...]

Five Year Old Fashionista

November 9, 2009

I would never proclaim to be particularly fashionable. Vogue magazine bores me to tears, Project Runway doesn’t appeal to me at all and despite never actually doing yoga, I pretty much live in black yoga pants and t-shirts. So, I realize I am not one to judge someone else’s fashion sense. However…
Lily has developed quite [...]

An Ode to the School Bus

September 3, 2009

Days before kindergarten started, I was having major second thoughts about sending Lily on the school bus. Last spring it seemed like a fantastic idea, but the closer the day came, the larger my list of cons grew: Does any good really come from riding the bus? Was it just lazy of me to depend [...]

Little Miss Independent

August 27, 2009

We’ve been waiting all summer for today.

But now that it’s here,

I just want her home.

And she couldn’t disagree more.

{Update 4:00 PM: School was “SO much FUN! I Loved it,” she reported. She cannot wait to go back– I don’t think I EVER felt that way about school. It’s adorable!}

Lily was the picture of a little ballerina at her recital yesterday.

And the bun? Kicked every other bun’s ass.

Thank you all for your help, I couldn’t have done it without you!

(And this was a great step by step tutorial, should you need to do some bun making yourself. Thanks, Colby!!)

I don’t save birthday cards. I hate receiving overpriced flowers when I can create a free bouquet from my own yard. There are very few movies that reduce me to tears and I don’t cry at weddings. Since I wasn’t blogging when my older kids were babies, I have no record of their early milestones. [...]

From birth, I tell my children how smart/sweet/handsome/pretty/amazing and miraculous they are. Constantly. This is the result:
Lily, you’re so pretty I said yesterday, as I made sure she was buckled in her booster seat.
I wish we looked alike, I sighed, staring at the daughter who inherited not one of my physical traits, save for the [...]

Girls Night Out

March 23, 2009

I’ll give you one guess as to why the following statements from Lily last night had me grinning from ear to ear…
“These are the stupidest pajamas I’ve ever seen. I hate them!”

“You’re so mean!”
“I’m not cuddling with you tonight!”
“Go away!!!!”

Any guesses…? No?
The fortunate recipient of the above statements was my husband. For once. He never, [...]
