There was a time, not long ago, when I held out hope that Evan would not take after my husband entirely. Jeff has Lily on his side, I have Ben on mine and I had hoped for a combo third child to even out the score.

Well, I’m here to report that those days are over. Evan’s eyes have now completely changed to brown, devoid of any green briefly inherited from me. His eyebrows, smile are nose are identical to his sister’s. Everywhere we go people remark on the similarity between he, Lily and Jeff. Even I can barley keep their baby pictures straight (that’s him on the right, by the way, and her on the left.)

To say it drives me crazy would be putting it mildly. I’m the one who suffered through morning sickness, weight gain, labor, delivery and scars from all of the above yet my husband wins? That’s bullshit. It’s a good thing I think they’re both adorable. And that my love for them slightly outweighs my competitiveness. Slightly.

HA HA- I’m with you on this one!!! None of my kids looked like me – they all look like my hubs! My daughter is coming around to be more of my face. But I have blue eyes and no one has blue eyes!!

I aoooo relate to that! My sister in law looks more like my boys than I do. I was just the incubator!

I feel your pain, the only one of mine that looks like me is NUMBER FOUR!!!!! So you mean it took me 4 times to get just 1 to resemble me!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I know how you feel. My son not only looks EXACTLY like my husband, but he also acts like him. I just hope I win the next one!

Wait, so you’re going to tell me that there are two different kids in those four pictures? Is that correct?

Ya, all my kids look like their fathers. Little man looks exactly like his dad and Toot and Smiley look a lot more like Hubby than they do me. Most people try to be nice and say “She looks just like you” but she doesn’t. I know it and so does everyone else. Quit trying to be nice. I did have one nurse say to me “where did Smiley get those beautiful eyes and beautiful skin?” Uhhh, his Dad. I think that was an insult.

Darling. Your children are darling! I feel the pain as well. BOTH of my boys look exactly like my husband. It’s as if I had nothing to do with the entire process at all.

Okay, people it could be a lot worse. It could be like my daughter-on the outside she’s all mommy but on the inside she’s 100% dad (and between the two of them, they’re gonna drive me to drink-well, more than I already am…)

What a cute pair!

My boys both have b lue eyes, whereas mine are green. Maybe I’ll get a green-eyed baby yet!

It’s so infuriating!! But, yes, they are cuties. Thank you! I agree :)

Coconut Cake, I have the worst of both worlds. Lily is SOOO Jeff personality wise, too. At least in all of the ways that make me crazy. Lucky me.

And, Jane, it took 4 times?! At least you got there eventually! (or would you just have kept going until you got there?!)

Hilarious! I mean it is not funny. I am laughing at the language used. Really. My husband felt the same way about our son – but now he is starting to look like a mix of both of us.

My grandson looks like his mother! Someone asked my son…Did you give him any DNA? When his daughter was born…he tearfully told me she has dark hair Mom and her eyebrows are dark…I think she will look like me! She is a blond little girl like her brother and mother! I don’t think he cares…he is smitten now! For the record…he looks like me!:)

Yeah, I thought for sure my kids would have dark hair like me. Nope. They’re BOTH blonds.

They’re adorable!

My son is such a copy of his father that I always say if I hadn’t been in the delivery room myself I’d never know he was mine! About all he got from me was his tendency towards carsickness.

WOw. They DO look alike. I’m sorry about Mr. Linky. I think I have it fixed. I’ll add you now……but check back to make sure. All of mine look like me except one. And he LOOKS nothing like me. I mean, not one similarity. It’s weird! :)

Both my kids look like their dads, too. I’m hoping this new little person will have SOMETHING from me!!! Well, my husband says that both my kids get their attitudes from me, but it’d be nice to have a child that came from my womb actually resemble me, yanno??

Reply

27 Lauren November 12, 2008 at 6:42 am

My oldest came out looking like her dad, but has slowly changed to look like me. My dad said the day that she was born the first one has to come out looking like the dad just so he wouldn’t get any ideas about it not being his. This was also my dad’s rationale for her not looking like him. Maybe this helps get them more attached or something?

I have the world’s most dominant genes. Seriously, they are Totalitarian Dictator Genes.

Jay has sandy brown hair and blue eyes, but his dad was 1/2 Italian and 1/2 Mexican. Not exactly on the sandy/blue-eyes side of the spectrum.

Peanut has my big brown eyes and sandy blonde hair and my round chin … if you put our baby pics side by side, you’d think it was the same baby.

I think my genes could overthrow a small nation…

When I had my son, the nurse didn’t want to give him to me and made me reread the numbers on my wristband several times and even came and looked herself. To this day, As I am blond and blue eyed and fair skinned, my olive skin, black haired, brown eyes young adults look nothing at all like me. I was asked numerous times when they were young if they were adopted! My hubby explains that he broke his back to make them, and I explained to him that normally 30 seconds doesn’t break a back, lol.

Anyway, I came over from 7 Clown Circus to tell you how wonderful you are (because I was told to do so) but low and behold, she was right!!! I love your blog and seeing the basket you put together, I know you do fantastic work. I will promptly subscribe, if possible and come back often to baste in your awesomeness.

They have gotten better about it but seriously I gave birth to the kid…can I get a least a little credit…after all he does have my eye color, my hair and skin color…I helped a little. Geesh.
