Hilary Duff shared a sweet snap on Instagram, and the trolls came out of the woodwork

Hilary Duff took her son to Disneyland this week, and shared a photo of their day. It’s a sweet snap of her and her four-year-old kissing in front of the It’s a Small World ride.

It’s a cute moment between a mom and her son, but that didn’t stop people from having a problem with it, because internet.

She captioned the photo with, “Happiest, happiest, happiest, happiest, happiest, happiest place on earth! We love you @disneyland.”

Most of her followers saw the moment for what it was — a sweet one between a mom and her child. Others were outraged, messaging simply, “Unfollow!” (As an aside, do people know that the unfollow button still works, even if you don’t announce that you’ve used it?)

In addition to a few angry flouncers, there were comments calling the kiss “inappropriate,” “disgusting,” and even “weird and sick.”

Um, no.

Duff responded to the backlash on her Instagram account with this:

“For anyone commenting that a kiss on the lips with my four year old is “inappropriate” go ahead and click a quick unfollow with your warped minds and judgment.”

Not all people are the same, and will feel different levels of comfort with expressing affection, depending on the culture and environment in which they were raised. But bashing a mom for showing affection to her child is just ridiculous.

The majority of Duff’s followers clearly felt the same, standing up for the mom in the comments to original photo:

My wife and I kiss my 6 y.o. Son on the lips all the time. This outrage is ridiculous.

Absolutely nothing wrong with this! #preciousmoments

I love seeing a mama and her son have a close bond. I’m not disturbed by it at all and think people are sick and twisted for thinking otherwise.

This is beautiful, kind loving men come from loving households and loving parents.

We all know there’s only a small window of time where are sons are showering us with affection. We’ll take it without your baseless judgment, thankyouverymuch.
