My father was a camera-addict too and my siblings and I, lovers of a good audience that we were, played up to it big-time. Those memories of my childhood are priceless and I love looking through those albums. Your children will value all the documenting you're doing. Of course you hate to discourage their interest, but personally I'm very protective of my camera. We bought them semi-toy ones and also let them use our phones. My kids use semi-toy ones, one of my old ones and of course our phones. A few years ago, I framed/hung a series of "portraits" my oldest had taken of each member of our family.
