The Duchess of Cambridge gave birth to a baby girl this morning. Months of speculation have finally come to an end. The Royal Baby is a princess! The princess – who is fourth in line to the throne – was “safely delivered” at 08:34 BST, according to a statement from Kensington Palace.

BBC Reports:

The Duke of Cambridge, who was present for the birth of the 8lbs 3oz (3.7kg) baby girl, has left St Mary’s Hospital in London to “pick up” his 21-month-old son Prince George.
He also told the waiting crowds the couple were “very happy”.
Both Catherine and her daughter are “doing well”, Kensington Palace said.

There were signs for those of us who pay attention to those things. The Duchess wore a bright pink double-breasted coat to her last public appearance before the baby was born. If you remember, when they emerged from the hospital with Prince George, Kate and William were both donned in blue. Then there was the rumor that buckets of pink paint had been delivered to Buckingham Palace.

Those of us who grew up with the Princess Diana fairy tale will probably forever follow news about her beautiful children. And those of us who get sappy about Diana’s memory (me) think that she would very much approve of the down-to-earth Duchess and their growing family.

A baby princess! Yay!
