My attachment to clothing
-
I made a silly confession about having to throw away a pair of pants. I thought maybe I could go on with my day but no it's still bothering me.
I've always defined myself by my clothes. I have an unusual style and I love my clothes. To find a piece of clothing that I want to wear over and over again is very hard. So when I do find something I like I keep it for years! I have a shirt that is over 13 years old, dh asks when I will throw it away, in truth, it will probably just turned to dust and I'll eventually just sweep the pieces into the garbage while I cry. Today I'm morning my pair of pants that I have yet to throw away. The holes in the pants are so bad you can tell what underwear I'm wearing. Can't I just wear them to bed. Why do they have to be thrown away?
Anyone else that has a strange attachment to clothing?not my chair, not my problem -
my favorite pair of jeans from high school. i know that i will NEVER fit in them again but i cant make myself get rid of them. theres a part of me thats like well maybe if i dont eat for like 2 wks, and then i brush it off, put the pants away, and go get a cookie. lol

I wore a size 3 in high school the only way id be able to wear those if I starved myself to death and then still they would never get them over my hips @ladybug0910
I still have underwear from high school.... Not that I wear them but I still have them.not my chair, not my problem -
@onmylastnerve ikr?! i wore a 7/8 in hs and even if i did get back down to the weight i was then i dont think theyd fit over my stretched out hips. :-(

I have a silk skirt I got at a consignment shop when I was 14. I still wear it with a tank top. Hubs has t-shirts that are only 5 years younger than I am and I'm 31. Talk about hoarding your clothes.
-
I wear my t shirts right out! I had a honey I shrunk the kids shirt that was so thin and covered in holes and while I was wearing it my ex purposely grabbed a hole and ripped it in half. :( ya that douche is an ex for a reason. But now I have my Elmo shirt and smashing pumpkins shirt so I'm OK.

Yessssss! I have way too many clothes that I never wear but can't part with. I have one shirt that I bought in 1995... I think it's beautiful...other reactions are mixed... I can't wear it anymore...it's a button up and my boobs have grown since I was 18, but I'm not getting rid of it. Ever.I have a bunch of other stuff too, I'm going to try to sell some of the better stuff since I don't seem able to give them away...money's a pretty good incentive lol. I'm moving this summer so I have to get rid of a lot of it.Well... I don't have to.;)

That's a young shirt @lapygmyherder :)
The shirt I have that is 13 years old isnt even cute I wear around the house and maybe to the store.
@eapple my sister decided my flip flops had to be thrown and she took a pair of scissors to them so I couldnt save them. Still haven't found a pair of flip flops that are as comfy!
not my chair, not my problem -
I bought this pink shirt with my first pay check from my first job. The last time I went through my clothes I put it in the donation bag.... Then drug it back out the next day and stashed it back in my dresser.Edt: ^^ I got my first job at 15yo.

Oh I do! I do! Some stuff I can get rid of, no problem. My issue is, if I attach a memory to a piece of clothing, I can't get rid of it. I still have the pants I wore the night I lost my virginity. Really, like my ass is EVER getting back into a size 4 jeans. I also have the thong and the Vines teeshirt I was wearing. The shirt is so thin now its not appropriate for public LOL
I also get that way about jeans, I rub through the inner thighs on them, because my thighs do a little touching in the middle, and if I find a pair I love, I will patch them, and sew them until they're basically falling to pieces.
So I feel your pain!

I have a whole box of stuff in my attic that I know I'll never fit in again, but I can't bring myself to throw away. It's not just you ;)
-
Hahaha @meghann I sew all my clothes so I can keep them longer! The shirt I'm wearing right now had a hole right on my
Tit, I didn't want to throw it so now it's got a horrible sewing job. I don't even care!
So I have another question to all my clothing buddies, if you had 5,000$ to buy new clothes would you get rid of your old
Clothes? Kind of like "what not to wear"?not my chair, not my problem -
I love my clothes to death, especially jeans. I am so particular about pants that I become super attached to ones I like. I have given pants ceremonial burials in the garbage can, and I've cried while doing it
-
@onmylastnerve I would definitely do it! . I will never never never get rid of them. I could sell them and make good money but I just couldn't.

LADIES you need to learn how to REFASHION!! I refashion my old fave things ALL THE TIME! Like you guys didn't know.. xD
My DH still has this ragged purple quilt his grandma made. It's my FAVORITE blanket. It also.happens to be DS4s favorite. He's worn and torn it even more ragged. So last night I chopped off the sides still in decent shape and sewed them back together. It's now his perfect size and the middle holey scrap is enough to make him a matching pillow.
I've made t shirts into skirts, bags, purses, pillows, tank tops, etc...
And jeans into shorts, skirts, purses..
There's a whole movement, TONS of cool blogs, great place to start for tutorials and inspiration is refashionista.net and refashionco-op.blogspot.com
Start making/altering clothes, you will REALLY get attached!!!! -
@onmylastnerve, not ALL of them, because I am a great dresser :P butttt I would get rid of some of them I'm sure, I mean if I had that money to buy ANY jeans, ANY ONES I WANTED, no matter the cost, yeah, I'd get rid of some stuff LOL
-
I keep my clothes cause I canafford a shirt here and there, a pair of pants like ever 6 months if I budget. I have to keep the clothes. But some of the clothes I see in stores are just plain UGLY!!! I went to Maurice's and I do not want to look like a sailor. It was either the nautical crap or hot pink and bright yellows.not my chair, not my problem

I have a deep fondness for purses--especially totebags and shoes especially boots. I have two big boxes and I mean big boxes of boots in the garage. I have not even opened the boxes in ten years because I have boots in my closet.
I rationalize because Macy's has big sale here where they bring tons of boots and shoes to two different stores. This happens twice a year and you can even use a coupon for 20% --and the price is already marked down 75%. -
And when did women's suit jacket get to be so damn short. I remember when the goal was to find a suit with a jacket that was long enough to cover your ass.
