So I have Mirena and this is the first time I have had any period since I had my 14-15 month old son sooo anyways here's the awkward part is it normal for it to smell so fucking bad I it seriously smells like a rotting uterus ughhhh wtf?? Is it because I've gone so long without a period???

Wow. Not really sure if that's normal. Maybe someone else can answer for you. My concern is if you're in a lot of pain or any other symptoms. running a fever, anything unusual. If you're running a fever or in severe pain I'd see a doctor. Hopefully one of the other ladies on here will have a better answer for you.

No fever and normal crampy pain which sucks since I'm not used to it anymore but yeah I'm thinking the smell is from not having a period for so long

Yeah, I would say you're probably right. That's good that there is no fever or anything. Wish I had some advice for you. I'd see a doctor if it doesn't clear up in a few days. Hope it goes away real soon for you.

@TiredSAHMamma I was on the shot for 5 yrs and my first period after smelled like rotten roadkill so I freaked and ran to Dr and was told that due to the lack of periods it was basically stale and the smell will go away after cycle or two and don't worry till its been like six cycles (second cycle no smell)

Do you have a health line you can call? Where I am there is a number you can call to talk to a certifited nurse 24/7.

So...I had the Mirena and didn't have periods...then all of a sudden...got a period one day.  It was painful and stinky and horrible.  I had never had a period like it before...but I figured...I guess it's my turn??  I ended up spotting for 3 weeks before I decided to go to the doc.  They did an ultrasound and a blood draw.  The ultrasound ended up being inconclusive...but the next day I got a call saying the blood draw came up positive for pregnancy!  It turned out that I had gotten "pregnant" but the Mirena had successfully prevented FULL implantation...so it was what is referred to as a "Blighted Ovum"....a kind of pregnancy where the cells don't really develop into anything.  The body recognized that it wasn't a viable pregnancy, so the bleeding was the body's attempt at "miscarrying."

Long story short, if it doesn't go away in a couple of days (meaning, lasting a total of less than 5 days), go see a doc!  If a miscarriage cannot self-expunge, it can become infected.  I ended up having an emergency D&C.  I had waited too long to see a doctor.  By they time they figured out what was going on, I was vomiting, couldn't keep anything down.  Just the pre-surgery blood draw they did at the hospital...only a tiny little tube of blood!...made me super nauseous...so the blood draw people let me go in the bathroom to throw up...I ended up passing out on the bathroom floor in the hospital!  They had to get me a wheel chair just to check in!  It was horrible!  DON'T PUT IT OFF!!  Take it from me...Do NOT put off the doc for too long!!!

If anything rancid was coming out of my vagina, I would be going to the doctor. Lady bits are way too important to risk it!
  • I was on this pill for a couple years(can't remember the name).  You got your period every 3 months.  My first period I got after I went off of it smelled horrible!!  I went to the doc and he said it was because of old blood?!  I only had it for a few more days then the smell went away.  He did tell me though that if it lasted for more then a few days to come back in and they would check for infection.  I would say to go get it check out just in case.
