Especially when they are around kids all day everyday for their jobs...this infuriates me to no end!  I did sign the petition.

That's horrible! @MyInnerGoddess,@Megsue, and @onetime, it would be a prison party. I would have gone all Incredible Hulk on those teachers, aides, and administrators for letting it happen! Poor kid! Petition signed.

I signed it also. I hope something gets done about this. Those other people shouldn't be allowed to continue teaching.

I didn't watch all of it for two reasons. My son has autism and I worry about that all the time. That's one reason I go and pick him up from school every day. Thankfully he is very verbal and the only time I disagreed with the way his aide was dealing with him , Ds told me, and we delt with it. His aide would smack him in the head ( lightly) when he said something smartalkey. Ds has a smart mouth and it tends to get him in trouble. I said don't do that and they stopped. I know it was all in fun but , no, don't do that.
And secondly it happened to me. I was in third grade when it started. My grandfather died and I started having issues. We diagnosed with ADD. My grades were horrible especially in math. The history teacher told me how stupid I was and I would never accomplish anything with my life. Well she thought I might be able to work at a fast food place, as long as it wasn't the register. The princapal of the school told me I was " a fucking moron" and " I needed to get my shit together " she also said I was worthless. I didn't tell anyone. I was too ashamed. The kids in my class joined in and made fun of me the entire time, K - 7th grade. Let's just say I hated school. The bad part ( well one bad part) was it was a church school and the principal was also the Childrens director. So I had to be around her a lot. At school and church. She was just mean. One time she was fussing " why can't you idiots learning lines. Its not like the lines are long, use your brains!!" that was to the Senior Citizines Chior that she was also in charge of. Im sorry I just didn't like her. Sorry if it's off topic.

I too have a little guy with Aspergers (mild), so it hit home pretty hard.  And I am so sorry that all of those terrible things happened to you @momofdbb.  That is inexcusable and should never happen to anyone.

At 43, I know how much things have changed in the school system in the past 30 years.  It is night and day different and for the most part, much better as far as the teachers and their relationships/interactions with students go.  There will always be exceptions and those need to be weeded out and thrown out.  But what happened in this article and video is despicable.  I cannot even fathom all the damage I could inflict on the teachers and aides involved in this.  And, a school that supports them?  My kid would be pulled out of there immediately, even if they treated him well.

These people should be sooo ashamed of themselves.  This is absolutly sick.  They should just be fired but they should be in jail.

That broke my heart also, @toyoungtofeelold.  These kids need validation and reassurance all the time and when that teacher told him NO!, the tears poured here also.  I just can't wrap my head around people like this.  How can anyone possibly be so fucking cruel?  That is some really fucked up wiring and a bullet would be a welcome cure for them.

This is another example of teachers bullying special needs students, and being caught by proactive parents.

These stories break my heart. I am so thankful that there are parents out there who are willing to go above and beyond to make sure their children, that all children, are being treated fairly.

Good God.  WTF is wrong with these people?!  And again, the aide is dismissed and NOT the teacher?  I would be petitioning to have the superintendent and the principal fired right alongside the teacher.  My blood is just boiling this morning!  Thanks for sharing this story @CanadianMama.

I am so grateful that my son has wonderful teachers, aides and specialists.  They are fabulous and we all love them.  But I would shank a bitch if I even thought that one of them treated my son badly.

This is completely horrible and unacceptable, Fired??? my ass… Arrested! thats where they belong in jail and striped of their certification.

I've always said, I admire educators because of their passion for teaching… what a wonderful gift, but if a PERSON does not have the patients or passion and love their job… please don't do it, our children deserve better.

I Confess: I am one of those persons that doesn't have the tolerance for all children, truly and honestly I could never be a teacher. I have patients for my own, because they are mine and they are my responsibility.

I would be sitting with all the other ladies in a jail!!!!

Exactly!  I have admitted this exact same thing.  I get very anxious around a bunch of kids and I avoid them like the plague.  There is damn good money in childcare and you could never pay me enough.  The kids do deserve better and I am not cut out for it.  Teachers are supposed to help mold and shape children.  And with teachers like this, they are potentially destroying spirits and molding self-loathing.  I hate these people!  I truly worry about children that are going through this that have parents that don't listen to them, or just assume that the child is the problem.  And I know it is happening.  Scares me to death.

@momofdbb I also had learning disability (still do) I have a hard time comprehending math. Anything to do with numbers even adding and subtraction were difficult for me. When I was in 5th grade my teacher brought me to the front of the classroom and told me how stupid I was and that I would never make anything of myself. That he doesn't tolerate stupidity in his classroom and he ripped my math homework up right in front of my entire class room. When I started crying he he started making fun of me and started teasing me  that I was a big cry baby, and he told the whole class they should laugh at me because I was being a baby.
When I told my mother what happened she was super pissed and went in and yelled at the principal but the school never did anything. When I refused to go to school after that my mother never made me, then after not going to school for two months the school told my mother that if I missed one more day of school they would turn her in CPS for neglect. My mom had to fight like hell to get me put in another classroom. I remember we had a school meeting with the principal and other people and my mother grabbed the principal's tie and threatened to choke him to death if they didn't do anything about the teacher who harassed me. I remember her grabbing his tie and pulling him about an inch away from his face and said if anything like this ever happens to my daughter again, the next time I am in this office there will be blood your tie.
What these teachers did to this boy and other kids in the room is disgusting and they should all be canned! Unions are stupid and shouldn't keep bad teacher employed!! That is why I am not a fan of public school too many teacher who shouldn't be teaching are allowed to continue teaching!

I couldn't watch the whole video but I'm in tears for the little boy.  I'm pissed at the teachers and I admire the father for being so calm.  How the hell do you feel good about yourself calling a child with a disability and bastard.(I stopped the video there.)  And telling him he's not gonna see his dad.

Not sure.  I ran across that video during another search that led me to youtube.  I have not found the news clip about it yet.

    Found it!

I am fully disappointed that the teacher in the vid above was given $130 fine and 5 years probation. It's not enough. I looked around some too... she was not a certified teacher (not required in TX Charter schools at that time).. she had been working at the school but had an arrest warrant out on her for over a year (background checks?? I have to do them yearly as a volunteer)... ridiculous!

I have a nephew who was in an EBD classroom, he had a meltdown and needed to be restrained. Teachers and paraeducator staff are supposed to be trained in how to hold/restrain a child without harm.

The man (para) that restrained my nephew was over 6feet tall and weighed 250lb or more.. my nephew was a scrawny 4th grader (ADHD, ODD.. on Ritalin since he was 4!.. TINY)... by the time it was over (20 min of restraint until mom arrived) there were bruises on both of his arms and a large one on his thigh, speckled bruises over the majority of his upper body (front and back) as well as his face, from broken blood vessels (between pressure and struggling/straining), and a large bruise on his kidney area (man sat on him on the floor).  After investigation it was determined that although it was 'excessive force' the para was not liable for the injuries. He was not fired just transferred to a non EBD position.

I think she tried to sue the district but it was dropped because they determined it was my nephews 'fault' because of his out of control behavior. He looked awful for weeks after...yes he did meltdown.. but there had to be a better way to handle it. (this happened in about 1995ish)

With 2 kids on the autism spectrum these incidents just hit way too fucking close to home for me. Luckily they are both high functioning with good verbal skills, so I know that they COULD tell me if someone was mistreating them. However, I'm not 100% confident that they WOULD tell me. Especially if it were a teacher, and aide or someone else in a position of power. I'd like to believe that they would, but we tell them from day 1 that they are supposed to listen to teachers and do what they tell them to. So, if it was just mild verbal abuse it might not even occur to them that they should tell anyone. Of course, the examples in these videos are extreme and the staff involved should absolutely be prosecuted. I can't even imagine what I would want to do to them if it was my child they were tormenting.

I am guessing this dad isn't suing because he doesn't want it to appear that he is after money...

unfortunatley I think that he SHOULD sue because that is probably the only thing that would get the school to do the right thing.

    Sad but true.

This makes me want to re-consider Special Education instead of my chosen field.  These kinds of stories.  I worked with kids for years and even though working with them in groups is NOT my thing (I am good one on one), and even though I will freely admit that there was always a kid or two that was very hard to like, and even though I was alone with some of these kids for 3 hours a day (no assistant when the numbers in my group were low), I would never ever be able to allow myself to be MEAN to them.  Firm, yeah, plenty of times.  Cruel?  Never!  No excuse, ever.

I still remember the cutting comments of certain teachers as far back as 2nd grade who were hateful and mean to me.  And my firstborn (DS20) had to hear this kind of crap in FIRST grade and the teacher took me aside to tell me that she thought he might be "slow".   He is brilliant! Just intelligent in a different way (more artistic than academic) but to this day he gets down on himself and thinks he is "stupid".
