ok i've never had this problem before with my other 3 kids, but my newborn, when he eats his bottle, he still roots when the bottle is in his mouth. and he started off eating great!! was eating 4 oz at a time, but now he just seems to not want his bottle when i feed him. he keeps rooting for something even though the bottle's in his mouth. i've tried switching the nipples that we have, but that doesn't help either. it's warm like he likes it, but that's not working anymore either. i don't know what else i could do. and he goes hours without a bottle, so i know he's gotta be hungry.

Have you tried squirting a little of the milk in his mouth as he is rooting? That way, he knows something is there. Or kinda angling the bottle up a little to hit the roof of his mouth?

he is formula fed bc i couldn't breastfeed. i found out what the problem was. he didn't like the nipple on the bottle. he has changed nipples 3 different times. about once a week. he's 3 weeks old today. he's a lot different than my other 3 were and it's taking me a little while to remember to do all these things. i feel horrible.  he'll start to suck on the bottle but if he doesn't like the nipple, he just won't eat. got it figured out last night and he slept all night once he got a full belly and clean diaper.
