I'm just curious to see what kind of pets folks have.  Do you like your pet?  Is your pet treated like a member of the family?  Do those who are supposed to care for the pet pull their weight?

My DW and DD18 have always had cats.  Our current one, Howie, just turned 2.  Try to imagine a feline Snoopy and you have Howie!

Anyone know a good kitty psychiatrist?

We have a rat terrier, she's 4 and a half. Got her when she was 8 weeks old. To be honest, I don't like her, I'm a German shepherd sort of person, but she is treated like family. I even make fresh homemade dog food for her.

We have also had horses, but I'm currently horseless at the moment.

We have three cats (Gizmo 9, Chairman Miao 7, and Noah 6) and a two year old cockapoo named Jack. They are absolutely members of the family, I'm a suck and they know it!

We have Bosley! Our rescued Basset Hound. We think he's around 9yo. We'll have had him 6 years this June and he is definitely one of the family. I really feel like I have two toddlers and an infant at home.

He's great though. He's DH's first dog and my first dog since moving out of my parents'. We also had Molly, a Basset Hound we adopted from a breeder. Sadly, we lost her a year ago this past September to a freak infection. The two of them were our first kids before we had Taran and Declan.

I grew up in a "zoo" as my K teacher called it. :-) Love animals. I want to get a hedgehog when the boys are a little older.

Oh and Spike! He's our 4inch+ Plecco (sucker fish). He was the sole survivor of the fish tank in my PreK classroom three years ago. After that first year I "retired" him. I didn't have the heart to subject him to the hard life of a fish in a tank surrounded by curious and inadvertently deadly 3,4, and 5yos.
I'm as sexy as a burp mid-kiss. Watch out!

@Redmomma, We have a rat terrier, too!  She'll be 4 in August.  She definitely has a quirky personality, but we love her and she's treated like our baby.  She loves to go places with us and sometimes, if she's outside, will follow the car until we stop and let her in.

We have 2 dogs, the rat terrier and a pomeranian mix, whose thinks he's king of the neighborhood. We have a Siamese cat, too.

Ya'll know what I do...LOL Every thread is an opportunity to share photos to me!

This is Lily, Honey, and Zeus. They are Akitas, and they are my sweet furbabies! Lily is almost 2, we got her when Spawn was a few months old. He learned to walk, by holding on to her tail LOL They are best buddies, and woe betide anyone who tries to mess with him in front of her! My husband accuses me often of treating the dogs a little too well, because I make sure their dog food is well-supplemented with fresh meat and vegetables, but I figure if that's a complaint, I'm doing good LOL
Lily was raised as an indoor dog, but since we moved, we're not allowed to keep her indoors here in this rental house, and it's frankly driving me and Spawn nuts that she can't come in!

The kids feed the dogs before they leave for school, I take them a small snack outside around lunch, and then they get fed again when the kids come home from school. I know that sounds like a lot, but we take their recommended daily portions, and just divide it up into 3 parts. It's just a habit that I implemented to make sure someone always remembers to check their water supply at least 3x a day. These large breed dogs need lots and LOTS of water, especially down here.

    Anyhoo, here they are:

We have a 9 year old tuxedo cat named Zipper. (Same age as DD. He was my nesting! lol) He is definitely a member of the family. Our Chihuahua passed away nearly 2 years ago. We miss our Baby so much. DD will still cry for her sometimes She was with us from 8 weeks old and was 13 years old when she passed.

I have a 5 y.o.  Lab/Husky/Akita mix.  She's medium size and has the fur of a Lab but the coat looks like a Husky.

I took her from my parents as soon as I got a place with a good sized yard and could care for her.  She was originally a present for my baby sis but she ended up getting a rash when she touched Mable's fur.

She is VERY cuddly and since she's never really been around other dogs she doesn't know how to act when I take her to the dog park.  She tries to get the people to chase her around..lol.  Can't say I treat her like the family.  I went over 10 years without an animal in the house so I really don't feel the need to cuddle and such, BUT, she is very much loved and does get attention.

We have a 8 month old beagle named Ruby and a black cat named Sammy that we think is about 2. They are definitely my 4-legged kids and are treated very well. Surprisingly, they get along extremely well together!

    We have 3 dogs
Shank - 5 year old Cane Corse 175lbs of pure dumb
Narcissa - 4 year old Pit Bull Mix 80lbs of pure addreline
Guenevere -  2 year old Pomeranian 10 lbs of annoying

    We have 3 cats
Nikko - 9 year old Calico Siamese mix - Bitchy as Bitchy gets you don't even LOOK at her with out her permission
Mooch - 2 year old Orange bastard - see name, acts like a dog, listens like a dog, is better behaved than a dog
Terror - 2 year old Tabby - see name, she is a royal terror, unfriendly, skiddish, doesn't like people unless it's on her terms

We have a rabbit I rescued named  Zając pieczony which is polish for baked rabbit he is a royal effing pain in the ass, but I love him.

It's mainly DF job to take care of the animals (but he's a Vet tech so it really kinda IS his job anyways), but DS6 does the cats (food, water,) DD9 takes care of the rabbit (food, cleaning, watering) and cleaning the litter box and she helps feed the dogs, she also helps clean the dog pen for a substantial amount of money a week. I pill and wash everybody, DF takes care of them when they get sick, gets the meds they need, and all the gross stuff.

We have a 6 yr old cat that's a little slow in the head & very fat, but she's my baby.  We have another cat, 3yrs, who's name is Jewel, but we call her Crazy Bitch 'cuz she's psychotic.  We have an Australian Shep mix who just turned 1. She's also psychotic & very energetic & if she doesn't quit chewing shit up, I'm going to kill her!  Last, but not least, we have a golden retriever/lab mix who's 4 & sweet as can be.  But he's a little slow in the head too.  Picture Forest Gump & that's his personality. :)

As for who takes care of them:  I do. Even though I'm totally NOT a dog person, I usually get stuck making sure they get fed, get medication & get taken to the vet.  If I knew I was going to get stuck w/ the maintenance of these dogs, I would have put my foot down & stuck to my cats.  BTW: they are inside dogs & their hair is EVERYWHERE!!!! I can't keep up!

I used to have a kitty named Gizmo! We currently have one mutt named Radcliffe who is an absolute sweetheart, very smart and obedient. We treat him like a member of the family but don't pamper. Right now we are ignoring him more to prepare for the lack of attention when the little one arrives.

    We have 2 dogs:

Sasha - 4yo mixed breed rescued from the shelter (about 30 lbs); she was our fur baby before DS2; and

Sophie - 9mo mixed breed also rescued from the shelter (about35 lbs); she was my moment of craziness when I decided we needed another pet.  WTH was I thinking?

DH takes care of them when he's in town (every two weeks), I get them the rest of the time.  DS2 helps me feed them (he pushes the dog food bin back to it's location).

In terms of loving them - Sasha is very well trained (by me thru obedience classes) and I have no problems with her at all.  Sophie, on the other hand, hasn't been trained yet (finding time has been an issue) and therefore, we are still experiencing the puppy issues - eating shoes, DS2's small toys, her dog bed, etc.

DD14 (not me!) has 1 dog. She adopted Max from the local shelter when he was about 9 weeks old. He was her 11th birthday present. The shelter folks told us he would grow up to about 30-40 pounds. They were sssooo wrong. He is a treeing walker coon hound mix and weighs about 80 pounds. He's a smart dog and naughty on purpose when he wants attention. He rarely barks, but when he does, it's LOUD and scary to people who don't know him. He doesn't like any men except my boyfriend. Thankfully, DD is very good about taking care of him. I do take him out for his morning walk, mostly because she has to get to her bus stop so early and taking Max out is my excuse for keeping an eye on my younger children while they wait for their bus.
If I'm not supposed to do it, how come I can?

@Redmomma Thank you! I love my Lily! You ought to see these pups' dad, though! He's my brother's Akita, and he's solid black and white, and just frikken HUGE. He's just an exceptionally beautiful example of the best of the breed.

@Love such cute dogs! I love dogs, but I am way more of a cat person.

We have 2 dogs. Ceaser is 10 and is a pit bull/lab mix. Meko is 9 and she is a rescue dog that we have had less then a year. She's some type of lab mix.

We also have 3 1/2 cats. I say 1/2 cuz one of my cats has decided he likes my neighbor as much as he likes us so we only see him half the time. My cats are Hercules-9, Alexander-8, Pandora-4 and my 1/2 cat Spaz- almost 2.

The dogs are supposed to be the kids, not mine, but I end up caring for all the animals most of the time.

We have a Golden Retriever we got because two years ago I needed a dog and DH (reluctantly at first) allowed it. We got him at 11 months from a man who never had any time for him but loved him enough to want what was best for him. He's not allowed on furniture but allowed to be in every room with us and very much my shadow. He's never kenneled because he's fully house trained UNLESS he's put in a crate and then I come home to a soaking, howling, chewed plastic mess. He can't be let off his leash on walks or at beaches because he's what we call "viscously friendly." He slams into new people's legs as a greeting, usually knocking them off their feet which is more than embarrassing. He also doesn't chew his stuffed animals, only snuggles and licks them. When one ripped playing tug of war, he constantly brought both pieces of it to me with the sad eyes until we fixed it. He even dug it out of the trash and so I sewed it... I wouldn't say he's my second baby but we did spend $1000 on a dog that was almost free JUST to move him to Hawaii so I'd say we're pretty close.

@redmomma @mawga, I had a rat terrier named Rosie who was absolutely my baby. Before her I'd always been a big dog person, but something made me fall in love with her shaky neurotic ass! Sadly, she was attacked by a coyote and killed up at my mom's a couple of years ago. I still miss her terribly!
Now we have a 7 year old cockapoo, who my kids love and I tolerate. He's lovable but kind of a doofus, and a horrible beggar & food thief! We also have a dwarf hamster named Rhino, and are getting some little day-glo danios (tiny bright colored fish) next week.

Oreo is so pretty!  :)    I am not much of a fish person.  My mom gave my son a goldfish and it died and I chickened out and replaced it while he was in school.  This happened twice!  I know, bad, I eventually told him... he thought it was just the one goldfish though. :(

Okay I have 3 cats and two dogs, not sure if I have pics of everyone on the computer but here is Mika, "The Bitch".  She's some sort of Siamese mix and gorgeous but oh so crazy -- and oh damn, I just noticed that textbook in the pic and realized I never turned it in (it is a rental)!!! Crap!

Raven is a Lab mix, mostly lab, and she's about 8 years old, this is the only clear pic I could find, now she's looking like an old lady! Here she is with DS14 when he was about 8:

And this is Doyle, he is Raven's son and he is 2.  His father was Boston terrier/shih tzu mix!

She was my first baby, and my heart melts when I see her!! She is a real sensitive soul and isnt very good with people or other animals. She is TERRIFIED of Benji, so I sent her to live with my sister. She looves my bil. I miss her everyday.

@Stars -- adorable!  I had a Yoshi before.  Mine was a shih-tzu / schnauzer cross that I got from a shelter when he was 9.  He'd belonged to an elderly lady and when she died the family dumped him at a shelter. :(  So he lived the last part of his life with me.  He was a grumpy old man who loved to sleep on exHs shoes! ;)
