chicken pox
-
Please tell me all you know about this..... what it looked like in its "first stage" on your babies, how long it took to run its course, how long for the red bumps to blister, ect.... my 4 month old might have them, she has a red bumpy rash on about 40% of her body right now, it started yesterday and spread quickly. The doc said its definitely a viral rash but he cant tell if its the pox or not and that we just have to wait for it to blister or not..... I am scared
-
Don't be scared. Has she been exposed to chicken pox? DD got a rash that spread quickly, but it was just a viral rash. It happens and if she hasn't been exposed to anyone with CP, it's unlikely that's what it is.It's going to be uncomfortable and at 4 months going to be miserable for both of you, but she'll probably be just fine. The big thing is make sure you treat fevers, and if it gets over 102-103, call the doctor, especially if you've given her tylenol. Aveeno oatmeal baths will probably help with the itching, I would just clean out the tub with a little Clorox after. Here's what it will look like if it blisters:Bite me, cupcake!

DS had pox at 6 months. My ped actually advised against using calamine lotion as it drys and can cause the spots to itch more. Instead I was told to get some products with Tee Tree oil because it moisturises so it will help reduce itching/discomfort.
Good luck @newmomof2 just try to keep her as comfortable as possible!!

Have they ruled out Coksackie Virus? Both my kids had it last year and it was small blisters every where.
-
What is coksackie virus? I have never heard of that.... isn't there a nurse that frequent this site? I am only asking because I don't know if it is yet or not... her bumpy rash looks like it is getting tops on it but they are so small I can't tell if they are blisters or white spots. The doctors are no help because all I hear is there is nothing they can do.... ugh, I get that but at least look at her PLEASE! Once her benedryl and tylenol wears off she won't let you touch her without screaming in pain. She is still eating her baby food and drinking her formula and when she is medicated she is happy and smiles. I feel so bad for her :(
-
Oh, Haha! I didn't see that @phdmommy commented.... can you shed some light please?!
-
If it's a virus, there isn't much anyone can do, unfortunately. Keep her comfy and hydrated and watch that her temp doesn't spike.I like the Aveeno oatmeal baths for itchy, and Benedryl is out friend!Bite me, cupcake!
-
Benedryl is our friend! Now my job is guilt tripping me telling me that I need to make a decision best for the employe es around me as if it's a good idea to come into work tomorrow it not. I missed tiday and I have got to be able to pay my bills people! I don't know what to do
-
Aww poor baby! Where did the rash start first?Get me a damn beer.
-
If it's Chicken Pox and you've had them, it's unlikely you'll get them again or be contagious to others. If it's a different virus, that's a different story. Do what's best for you and the baby, as well as your co-workers.Bite me, cupcake!

better get it young.. I got it at 18. it was BAD!!! sick for 2 weeks. Loss a lot of weight. Vomited. And i had the spot EVERYWHERE! and i meant that litterally. I have a few scar from the worse spots. I was living in the bathtub in cold water and baking soda.I was glad when my kids got them young. I know how bad it is so i could relate to them. They lived in cold bath wich both of them love. And eucalyptus (sp?) oil instead of calamin. And benadryl. It is for me to know and you to dot dot dot.

She's too young for Advil...6 months for that, so check with her doc before you give that.Bite me, cupcake!

I think chicken pox usually shows up as flu like symptoms (achy, fever etc) for a few days before the rash starts. The bumps blister fairly quickly. My youngest had it at 6 months old and had a lot but he has fewer scars than the older ones who got it at 2 and 4 years old. Baby will be contagious from 2 or 3 days before the blisters until all of the blisters are scabbed over. There are a lot of other reasons for a rash. I hope baby feels better quickly and recovers well.B

She has rosela or german measels. Not very dangerous but, like all virus'" there are risks... Especially at her age I guess. We have to keep her cool because this virus gets worth with body heat so hat means around the clock Tylenol to stop Amy fever from starting and light weight clothes of any at all. She so smiling a lot more today but she is still uncomfortable
-
Poor little thing.. hope she heals quickly and is a happy baby again soon!B

Glad you got a diagnosis...if it's roseola, definitely good that you stayed away from co-workers! It's not a really common one anymore, I don't think, this is the first case I've heard about it YEARS, possibly decades!Cuddle her and keep her temp down, doc's right that's probably the more dangerous thing right now. In fact, unless you've got A/C blasting, I'd keep her in just a diaper with maybe a light cotton blanket.Bite me, cupcake!
-
Wow, I just realized how many typos there were in my last post.... She is doing very well today! We only had to give her Tylenol twice and benedryl only right as she was falling asleep. Hoping we are through the worst of it so I can have my happy baby girl back
-
And I misunderstood the doctor, it is not rubella which is German measles it is rosela which is in the herpes family. I have no idea where the hell she got this stupid virus though and that pisses me off. Probably from the kid at the store who was coughing and sneezing right next to our cart in a freddies.... Makes me want to wrap her in a bubble and never let her out.
