I have a monster child. My 17month old ds has recently figured out how to close and nearly open doors. Last  night we were playing on the floor in his bedroom and I stepped out of the room for half a second just to let the dog back in the house and he closed the bedroom door and locked himself in! I'm not sure why exactly but I panicked big time. I ended up frantically searching for my pink drill. (cutest thing ever! I have a whole pink tool bag full of pink tools.) and taking the door knob off lol. He was freaking out because I was freaking out and it scared me pretty bad. I know in all actuality he was fine, the room is clean and childproof but what if he locked me out of the house or locked himself in the bathroom or something? Is there something I can do to prevent that from happening again?

“There are two basic motivating forces: fear and love. When we are afraid, we pull back from life. When we are in love, we open to all that life has to offer with passion, excitement, and acceptance. We need to learn to love ourselves first, in all our glory and our imperfections. If we cannot love ourselves, we cannot fully open to our ability to love others or our potential to create. Evolution and all hopes for a better world rest in the fearlessness and open-hearted vision of people who embrace life.”

The door knob covers are awesome. We had them on all the doors in our house when dd was littler. She's quite a little houdini and she never figured out how to open them!

Or replace that door knob with one that doesn't lock.

This is probably a better choice if you think he'll lock you in but the door handle covers work also.

Do the doorknob covers cover the front of the knob too? Because the push-button lockers or twist lockers can still be pushed/twisted if they don't...

We had this issue when Dd was 4 and learning how to lock the doors. We taped a small nail over the door frame just in case she locked us in, in every room. Before that, the door handle covers were very effective. But last year we gave her the responsibility of locking the door on the way out, which she took to heart. Every time we stepped outside to play she would lock the door, so after paying a locksmith $50x2, we bought one of these. It's locked and hidden on our back patio so we don't have to call a lock smith if she locks us out again.

His bedroom surely doesnt need a lock, does it? the only door in our house that locks is the bathroom, and its a really tiny one too high for little hands.

We use a regular door knob with no lock on it, the only door with a regular lock is the bathroom but he doesn't go in there unsupervised and we keep a baby gate up. Even our front door doesn't have a lock, you use the key to lock it. :)

Sure just keep the ones they provide and when you move put them back.  :)
