dogs in bed?

My 5 month old pup is one who wants to be close to me constantly. I set up his doggy bed in my bedroom since we got him at 9 weeks old that's where he's slept but now that he's a little bigger he keeps jumping up on my bed. Its a king size bed so its not really a space issue, more a cleanliness issue. I wash him, he gets the flea treatment so he's flea free but is it bad to let him sleep in my bed? Also he's got short little Corgi legs, who knew they could jump so high?

A lot of people sleep with their pups!  I think it's totally a personal decision, there's really not a right or wrong here.  My dogs do not sleep with me (2 rottweilers), I can't stand dog smell or dog hair, especially on my bed..but when my oldest was a puppy and for her first few years until we got another dog, she did sleep with me (this was before I had my son, too).  But now, especially since having my kid I try to keep some areas dog (hair/smell) free.

I think it is just a personal preference...some people don't like dogs in their bed and I can understand that. In our house our dogs are like part of the family and they do sleep in our bed. Now when we had a Golden Retriever we wouldn't let her just simple because I couldn't stand all the hair!

My doggie sleeps in the bed with me. Always has, always will :) the one I had to put down a few months ago was such a princess though. She had to lay her head on the pillow beside me & be covered up. But it is completely up to you & dh. Also, if he is used to sleeping on the bed, how much trouble will he cause if you kick him out for, ummmm, alone time? You don't want a dog barking & scratching at the door the whole time because you kicked him out of his bed lol.

We have two five year old German shepherds, and they sleep on the bed during the winter. Dw and I don't mind them on the beds as long as we have been keeping up on brushing them, other wise it's a furry mess. During the summer I think they get to hot so they just lay next to the bed or sleep in Dd6s room. I let them on the couch, but I've spent alot of time training them, so they know who's boss and when it's time to get up.

Bosley our Basset hound sleeps with us. We got him a little set of stairs at one of the big pet stores so he can get up and off the bed.

Growing up my pet Dalmation, Clancy, slept with me until HS-ish when the two of us didn't fit in my twin bed. I'd be squished up against the wall by morning...or kicked out of my own bed. LOL

Nope, our dogs sleep (and eat, and pretty much live - by their choice) in their cages. When we are home they are either outside in the kennel, or inside with us with their cages open, but 9 times out of 10 they'd rather be in their boxes with their doors open. We also got 2 of ours dogs when they were older (one was 2, one was 1 1/2) and well past bed sleeping, and as I don't allow ANY animals on the couches that is out of the question.  When we first got out 3rd dog, she was maybe 12 weeks old, so she stayed in bed with me for a while, but always went back into the crate for bed, and when we leave.

This is a source of arguements in our house.  We have short haired pitts that happen to be some A-rated cuddlers.  DH is against shedding dogs in the bed regardless of how short the hair.  If I got a poodle or some wussy dog it could snuggle (no offense to those of you with dogs that are wussy-like)  but my big dogs have to sleep in the dog beds.

My red heeler was so smart that she would snuggle with me until DH got home and then she'd run to her bed and pretend to be sleeping.  He never was the wiser.  :-)  Those of you allowed to snuggle with pups, I'm jealous!

My dogs are confined to the kitchen 99% of the time. We let them in the livingroom occasionally. Both are older with incontinence issues so they pee in there sleep a little. Not enough to be a mess but enough that there blankets need to be washed every 2-3 days because of the smell. Also when I lived alone they took over my livingroom. My female Doberman will shred anything with stuffing( goes back to the puppy mill days instinct to make a nest). My lab slept with me for many years till her pee issues happened. If we take the baby gate down they will come hang out in the livingroom but then choose to go to the kitchen. Next house we buy will probably have a mud room with doggie door. I love my dogs but DH and I are in agreement that after these two pass no dogs for a few years or until we buy a bigger house then only 1 dog at a time. Most likely a Dane. My dogs are well behaved and get loads of attention they just can't be all over the house.

I have a golden and he's not allowed on any furniture. Well, at least when my DH is not home. When I left for school overseas, DH said he slept with the dog every night. I don't like the hair or smell...

@torturedbytwins I see it the other way around, your lucky you can have Pitts, I can't own them because they are "to aggressive" to be in base housing. I really hate the breed discrimination shit, it's not the dogs, it's the owners! But least our German shepherds still have that herding instinct, they keep all the kids away from the road and in a group like sheep. And they are fiercely loyal and even lists to Dd.

Dh and myself share our bed with 2 German shepherds and a chihuahua. The corgi sleeps in DD9's bed and the lab sleeps on the floor. I think she likes it better because it's cooler.

I don't know what I would do if my pittie didn't sleep with us! She is my baby and I lub her so much. Honest she is like one of the kids. The only thing she is not allowed to do is be in the dining room while we are eating. I don't like for her to beg from the kids lol but other than that she has run of the house.
Breed discrimination is a load of horse shit!!!! Would they discriminate against a human who had been tied up and forced to fight to survive or to get food? No! They would take them and put them on a pedastal for having survived such horrid treatment. Ugh that absolutely burns my ass!

I had my 3 dogs before dd was born. a German shepherd/great Dane mix, a pit bull and a pit mix. df is not a fan of dogs in the bed but my boys know when daddy's not home the bed is fair game. and then I have 2 cats that snuggle too. good thing df got us a king size bed before dd was born :)
and I also think bsl is bullshit too. don't blame me for all the ass faces that suck at being pet owners. as a vet tech, I've had 1 pit in 3 years get an attitude with me. the rest are shit head dogs that are under 10 pounds. great size to punt :) (never actually did though)

I had a Golden Retriever who slept with me. He'd stretch out full length on the bed, with his head on the pillow next to me.

But Lily (she's an Akita) has always slept in the floor. She likes to snuggle in my lap (omg what a sight! she's over 100 pounds!) but she's too hot-natured to want to sleep in or on my bed....unless it's empty LOL

@FoulMouthedSailor I think it is absolutely stupid that military members can't have pitbulls.  Then again I think the drinking age should be lowered if you are active duty as well.  You can choose to put your life on the line for me but your not old enough to have a beer?  Dumb...  However, no offense to my lovely pits but even my dumbest German Shepherd puts them to shame.  They are sweet and loyal as the day is long but they don't have half the brain your dogs do.  The only downfall with a shepherd is that coat!  I couldn't let that breed share my bed unless I just brushed the crap outta em.  :-(

When we brought home our chihuahua my husband said NO fucking way that dog is sleeping with us. The first night home he slept in a kennel and cried all night. he was only 4 weeks old. I put him in the bed and he curled up next to my husband and the rest is history. hes been sleeping in our bed for 7.5 years. We also have a yorkie that has slept in our bed for the last 5 years. He works nights now and when he gets home he insists that they sleep with him.

I have always let my dogs sleep with me. I like my dogs better than I like most people.

I'll pass, Sunshine would be upset to lose them, shes only 8 months older than them. Plus they herd all the kids in our neighborhood away from the road.

We have  mini shepperd colley ( english sp ?) Sleep in everybody's bed. If one of the kids as a fever, there is no budging him off the bed. And he HAS to have all of the kids in his line of vision. If he *loose* one of them, well you will know it lol He will whines non stop until and adult come and open the gate so he can go get them back on his lawn.  When we go to my parent's house, he is allowed to sleep at the end of the couch. No way granny will let him go on her bed.   But he does sneak in the kids bed if they sleepover with.  But shhh it is a secret btw granpa and the kids. Granny is none the wiser.

@MammaTeeRoll I don't mind them on the foot of the bed, it's when they wiggle up between Dw and I. And god for bid it thunderstorms Dd6 will come in and lay side ways across us and then the other dog will show up, it's likes a clown car bed style.

I miss my puppy so much, she slept in our bed every night, it's been 4 years since we had to find another home for her. I still dream about her, I still wake up searching for her with my feet. She was a beagle and I'd do anything to get her back :'(

Our yorkie cannot stand to let my husband and I touch. She wedges all 8# of her in between us. When its sexy time she tries to sit on either whoever is on tops back or who ever is on bottoms shoulder. Talk about a good time. She can jump on the bed. The other one, who is oblivious, cannot. :D

OMG my dog is in the bed with us every night.  He's a labradoodle and incredibly lazy.  He sleeps with us at night and on the couch all day.  Don't get me wrong, he'll play with the kids and stuff, but if he has a choice....he's crashed out.
