So sick of hearing about 50 shades
-
-
Haven't read it, don't know anyone who has either. I guess not having TV is a blessing. ;-)
-
Honestly, I loved the books and know tons of people who have read them, but I also know tons of people who haven't or who hated them. My point is....who the eff cares?!?!?! Everyone has diff taste and interests. I'm sick of hearing about the damn zombie apocalypse too but that's not really a confession. For the record, I love all the Twilight books as well ;) I guess I'm just a dork like that!
-
I don't need to announce to peeps when I'm double clicking my mouse. I'll flick my bean in private.
-
@masshysteria
"double clicking my mouse", LMAO -
I was so sick of hearing about it too, so sick I went and bought the first book. Im on book two and im now 50 shades of avoiding housework!!!“There are two basic motivating forces: fear and love. When we are afraid, we pull back from life. When we are in love, we open to all that life has to offer with passion, excitement, and acceptance. We need to learn to love ourselves first, in all our glory and our imperfections. If we cannot love ourselves, we cannot fully open to our ability to love others or our potential to create. Evolution and all hopes for a better world rest in the fearlessness and open-hearted vision of people who embrace life.”

To each their own!! I want to buy the book sooo bad! I asked for it for my birthday :) its the same with Harry potter, twilight, and the hunger games you either like it or you don't! Haters gonna hate!
-
I loved the books but I caught the story when it was on twilighted.net and was called Master of the Universe...You think 50 shades was good??? oh boy MOTU was sooooo much better!!!! They cut a lot of stuff out of the printed version. You are not my thong, so get out of my ass!!
-
@sunnymomma: I read them so fast, (thank god for ebooks in this case), I'm now re-reading them...I wasn't impressed at first, because let's face it, they are great "literature," But, by the middle of the 2nd book, the story had hooked me.@Hunny: you haven't read Harry Potter yet? OH, they are EXCELLENT. I'm getting ready to go on a telecon, but I'll have to tell you my intro to Harry one of these days but since I've the memory of a gnat, if you're interested you'll have to remind me.Bite me, cupcake!
-
@bellabefana oh I've seen all the movies just never read them. I'm just saying anytime a book series gets popular people always start complaining how they're sick of hearing about it. People will always find a reason to complain! Lol
-
@tooyoungtofeelold: Your husband wants to dictate your reading list? Pft. Maybe he should read them and get some pointers.....Mind you, I won't read them myself. If I pick up a book and read the first page and can't stop, I'll buy it. Both Twilight and Shades made me choke in the first paragraph and I couldn't go on.But hey, everyone else is free to read and love as they like.See ya in another life, sister!
-
Early pregnancy 'lack' of desire? Geez, I was horny as hell through pretty much my ENTIRE pregnancy! Very frustrating since dd was IVF and I'm single...I was ready to jump the UPS guy... :\">and, yes, 50 Shades will DEFINITELY jump start just about anybody, including the dead!Bite me, cupcake!
-
@Curious: I didn't like the first 2 or 3 chaps of 50 shades, and usually if I don't like that, I won't go on, but once her story DOES start to develop, it gets better. As for the Twilight series, I just never had any interest in that one, haven't even seen the movies...Bite me, cupcake!
-
@BellaBefana I like the books, the writing style sometimes annoys the crap out of me. Its repetitive, reallly easy read, sometimes the set up is way to long once she finally gets to the point im left feeling let down. But im hooked for sure. right about now I could care less why he wont let her touch him, its been mentioned 98796 times. enough already. Man oh man do I want a christian grey though!!!“There are two basic motivating forces: fear and love. When we are afraid, we pull back from life. I never could get into twilight. i read the first 20-30 pages and never picked it up again. Glad to know im not alone“There are two basic motivating forces: fear and love. Eh. I don't like all the pop culture bs that goes around, but c'est la vie. I read the Twilight novels. The books were well written but I think they've an unhealthy story. I probably won't read 50 Shades since it isn't my thing. And I'm also tired of hearing about the zombie apocalypse. I mean, come on. Bath salts crazy isn't contagious (unless you do bath salts too...)
-
@sunnymomma: it's actually a very important part of the story. Very important. And you're absolutely right, her writing style is repetitive as is her word useage, she's never heard of a thesaurus?I don't normally like eBooks, but I will admit I'm VERY glad I got Shade this way because I finished it at 1130 one night, and couldn't sleep, so I was able to get the next one. I didn't do it at first, because I was pretty convinced it wouldn't be my cup of tea.Bite me, cupcake!
-
@bellabefana yeah I should have know I was pregnant when I started not wanting to be touched at all! Dh was asking what was up. If its anything like it was with our twins then it will come back with vengeance soon though ;-) 50 shades might just help make it come back sooner.
-
I think the jokes about the zombie apocalypse is more of a metaphor. Every year, there's a new way for the world to go up in a puff of smoke. Rather than freaking out over every new possibility, we just consign the whole thing to the zombies. Why? Because it's easier. You'd prepare for (the bird flu, Y2K, AIDs, 2012, etc) in the same way you'd prepare for zombies. But at least you can joke about the undead. Not to mention the natural disasters that send thousands of people into survivalist mode at least once a year. Prep for the zombie apocalypse and you're ready for anything that the world will throw at you.See ya in another life, sister!
-
@BellaBefana are we the same person??? I said the same thing about the thesaurus!! Ok if you say its that important ill stop growling to myself everytime it gets brought up. i wish I had a way to get e books. I bought the first book, and almost just bought all 3 at once. but I didnt, so I went yesterday to get the last 2 and wouldnt you know the 3rd book is sold out!!!! damn damn damn, this means I will have to read slow until I find the 3rd one. Then its game on!!!“There are two basic motivating forces: fear and love. When we are afraid, we pull back from life. i read the first, DH found out from the news that a library by us wont carry the books. So he was wondering why and now that he knows what its about he is against me reading the rest. ugggg
I saw those articles in Explore Harford...I'm not sure how I feel about. On one hand I see it as major censorship...on the other hand the library is publicly funded and people who don't want the book have a right to voice their concerns, too.

You are a much more patient person than me. DH would have a hell of a time telling me what I could or could not read....he'd get laughed at. :))I'm as sexy as a burp mid-kiss. Watch out! -
I agree with the OC. Totally had enough of the 50 Shades hype...i get that he was damaged as a child and whatnot so maybe if it was decent writing itd be a little more palatable, but its pretty much crap. It didnt ignite any feelings in me at all; and i didnt even find myself attracted to Christian or even liking Anastasia all that much. In fact none of the characters really jumped out at me. I wasnt a big fan of the Twilights but i loved Jacob Edward, all of Edwards family and even Bella despite her silliness. I purchased 1 and 2 of the 50 Shades back to back on a Nook and was dissapointed with myself for wasting the money. If everyone loves it, I would never tell them to stop reading it. But I dislike the hype only because its such bad writing. To me that speaks volumes about what weve become as a culture....when shit writing becomes a bestseller and good writing gets overlooked. No bueno. But whatever...thats my soapbox moment for the week #:-SI shall futterwacken...vigorously*

@sunnymomma: AMAZON.COM!!!!! they're almost NEVER sold out!!!Bite me, cupcake!
-
@BookMum: thus the reason I mostly stick to children's lit...they tend to be better written. But then again, I tend to be disappointed with most best selling authors. I used to love John Grisham, then he started writing a book a year and they became predictable, same with many, many others.Bite me, cupcake!
-
@BellaBefana but then Id have to wait for it to be shipped!!!! that would be torture.“There are two basic motivating forces: fear and love. When we are afraid, we pull back from life. ahhhh, I get free 2-day on Amazon. $3.99 overnight, but I've also been an Amazon Prime member since they started it...I remember Amazon when ALL they sold were books!Bite me, cupcake!
-
I think you can do Cloud on Amazon on a regular computer too, so you can download electronic versions...Bite me, cupcake!
-
@Bella...youre right. Its EXTREMELY hard to write an adult book along the 50 Shades line and have them not sound completely cheesy. In that sense, i guess i should give the author a little more credit, i just cant bring myself to do it. And it is also hard when bestselling authors start to sellout...their stuff becomes generic later in the game. Ive never read Grisham, or Steele but i am crazy about Stephen King!I shall futterwacken...vigorously*
-
And im absolutely ADDICTED to Amazon!! I purchased Amazon Prime which is like 80 bucks a year...youll get free shipping on alot of stuff and upgrades to 1 and 2 day shipping for under 4 bucks. You also get a bunch of free instant videos...totally worth it!I shall futterwacken...vigorously*

The early Grisham's are really good. I've never read Steele, but isn't she mostly glorified Harlequin romance stuff? I'm not into that. I like Robin Cook, though much of his stuff is getting really predictable too. I pick books apart, and medical journals (I probably should have been an editor) poor grammar, etc., makes me CRAZY!Try Faye Kellerman and Jonathan Kellerman...they're murder mysteries/psycho dramas.I think I've enjoyed 50 Shades because they very much (minus the kinky) remind me of me and ex-f...in retrospect, I see a lot of him in Christian Grey, and a lot of me in Anastasia.Bite me, cupcake!
-
I do have access to amazon prime, i didnt think about it!~ book number 3 here I come! Thanks for being my brain this morning @BellaBefana@Bookmum I was feeling the same way about the book, my my interpretation of it being written like it is would be so that it can be sold as more of a romance novel than as smut for lack of a better term. The simplistic style opens it to a broader demographic too. But thats just my guess/opinion“There are two basic motivating forces: fear and love. When we are afraid, we pull back from life. When we are in love, we open to all that life has to offer with passion, excitement, and acceptance. We need to learn to love ourselves first, in all our glory and our imperfections. :D : mommy brain...makes you dumb as a rock sometimes!Bite me, cupcake!
-
hey, at least it makes this old lady know she's still got it, as Ana so in-eloquently puts it, "down there."Bite me, cupcake!
-
@BookMum: several times actually. I just finished the newest one, and it's been so long I decided to re-read Book 4...They're very good. The Chris D'Lacy series, The Last Dragon Chronicles are very good too and NOT what you'd think by the titles.Bite me, cupcake!
-
Dh bought 50 Shades for me. It took awhile and a few chapters for me to get into it.
Some of the "scenes" worked for me and others were ehhh.
I'm kinda tired of reading and hearing so much about it to, but I can ignore things.
I'm only on about chapter 15, but the spanking she got was nice. :-) -
@Mommyliciousx4: yeah, it made for some rather evocative texts between me and my ex this weekend...and illuminating...Bite me, cupcake!

This comment made my day! Omg, I laughed! Thank you!
I could care less, a few people have told me to read them but I don't have time!

I haven't read twilight or 50 shades. My mom was into twilight which made me stay far away from it. I like the whole vampire stories but I prefer them from more of a historical view. I enjoyed harry potter as a kid. We watch the movies now. But I have an issue with books and movies with the constant damsel in distress. There are so many of them its predictable what will happen. Girl is in distress/ horny, she meets/knows boy, boy is horny, boy sweeps girl off her feet/fixes her problem, they both get laid, end of story. The whole cinderella story is has been over done in so many ways. I've "tried" to read books w sex and sappy love stories but I don't get far. I'd like to read a book or see a movie with people who have genuine love for eachother but I don't think it can be created for entertainment. The real thing is so much better than watching someone try to make it. Being able to see real true love in reality is amazing, feeling it is even better. I think if women are constantly needing love/attention/sex and they aren't getting it from their SO they need to figure out why and fix it. There are billions of men/women out there. One of them is bound to be a better match.Without reason you have Rhythm and Rhyme the type of girl who knows how to have a good time... You take what you want except no for an answer... And I know first hand you're one hell of a dancer... So calling all cars and low and behold you're a real livewire with a heart of gold
-
@superscarymommy: then read 50 Shades, I think you'll be surprised...this is NO damsel in distress...Bite me, cupcake!
-
@superscarymommy see that's the thing.....SPOILER ALERT for anyone who isn't done all 3 Fifty Shades....What Christian and Ana have starts out as one ting and turns into something else completely, and I think that what draws people to these books ultimately isn't the writing quality or the BDSM sex or that taboo of it all, but the passionate and electric connection that they have with each other. It has been given a bad rap because of the whole BDSM thing, which has been focused on a lot rather than the actualy love story.
-
See thats the thing though....im not bothered by the sex, im bothered because i cant develop a liking to Ana and Christian at all. I just dont feel it. If i cant develop a relationship with the characters then im spending the entire time trying to convince myself they are more then just words on a paper and naturally thats distracting from the actual story.I shall futterwacken...vigorously*
-
I would like to check it out. It would be nice to have a better understanding of what its about. I have no interest in bdsm or the like so that iisnt my motivation. I heard on some show that the women come for the sex and stay for the relationship. I guess well see.Without reason you have Rhythm and Rhyme the type of girl who knows how to have a good time... You take what you want except no for an answer... And I know first hand you're one hell of a dancer... So calling all cars and low and behold you're a real livewire with a heart of gold
-
@Sassy I also agree that there was a bit of an unhealthy undertone to Twilight. Bella was just obsessed with Edward to extremes....no pre-teen girl should be reading that shit. But as an adult who can understand it's not realistic, it's all in good fun and a very touching read! :)
-
I hear you. I hated GGMz's 100 Years of Solitude and it got amazing reviews. I felt bad and tried reading it several times to no avail. I also HATED The Help which also got great reviews. I liked the movie but couldnt stand the book.I shall futterwacken...vigorously*
-
the only thing that interested me about Twilight is that it's a local author for me, but I still haven't read them...and not really that interested...IDK, I guess they came on the heals of Harry Potter and that's what disinterested me in them, because I've read similar and like them, but I just can't bring myself to read them...Bite me, cupcake!
-
@Bella - girl i didnt even get halfway through one. But im very stubborn, if it starts off bad for me then i tend to keep that perception in my head and hate it the entire time. Id rather it END bad (like the last Hunger Game did), that way theres still hope for me.I shall futterwacken...vigorously*
