Tons of reasons.  Sometimes it is hard to put into words.  My mother asked me why I wanted to get married... and for us, getting married was kind of a huge pain in the ass because we are a same sex couple living in Texas.  We had to go out of state to do it and it took us 8 years to finally be able to afford the trip and the wedding!

But it was still important to us, because of tradition I guess.  Because our kids wanted us to be married.  Because we still felt that that public declaration of commitment was important.  No, it didn't change our commitment to each other but it still felt like something we should do.  And because life is marked with ritual and ceremony from birth to the grave, the celebration was important to us and so was that "piece of paper". :)

^Yup. You've found your happy place and now you want to celebrate that commitment.
