Does any one have any tricks up their sleeves for healing or at least soothing diaper rash? My one year old has a really bad case if it and nothing is helping. Her doc said let her be diaper free as much as possible but with her pretty much having liquid poos squirting out every 2.5 seconds I don't see "diaper free" happening any time soon. Any ideas and suggestions would be much appreciated <3.

Please don't disregard this!!! It sounds RIDICULOUS. I had two of three kids that were prone to SEVERE (cracked, bleeding) diaper rash. Multiple expensive, inexpensive and every remedy in between attempt to cure it (including diaper free) Lotrimin anti-foot fungus cream. If nothing is helping it's probably a 'yeast' type diaper rash. This is not a 'yeast infection' girl thing. My son also was prone to it. It significantly improved within a day or two. Good luck! I hope this works!

Of course the obvious would be something like Desitin or other diaper rash cream. Put some baking soda in her bath water. It helps neutralize acids & soothes the butt. Is she on an antibiotic by chance? Could be a candida rash instead of a typical diaper rash. That would be helped by an antifungal on the butt & yogurt to eat.
ETA: the candida rash is the yeast rash @lifeisgood is talking about. Posting at the same time! -
I would have said diaper free too but yeah... I don't know..how long has she been having the runny poop? Do you have a backyard where you could let her run around naked? Any air time is good.
All I know is for clean up, it is sooo much easier and gentler if you can use warm water instead of any kind of wiping. I used to just stand them up in the tub and have them bend over then I'd pour warm water on them. Also maybe let her sit in the tub of warm water with baking soda, or an oatmeal bath.
Aquaphor? butt paste? Heavy layer of vaseline?
And yes my son would get yeasty rashes too, so the lotrimin worked, and if it is yeasty, PLAIN (no sugar) cold yogurt on the skin is very soothing.
Hugs to your little one.

A pediatric nurse told me to use desitin maximum strengh w/aquafor over it to seal it on and keep diarrhea from sticking. It worked for us. hope it gets better soon.
-
We used Dr. Naylor's udder balm for diaper rashes, and irritations, but the kids rarely had rashes...

-
If it is yeast related Canesten cream is safe to use in babies. My DD had a severe rash that looked like little pimples all over her hooter and bum, and the doc told me to put Canesten on it. It cleared it up within the day. If nothing else, I don't think it would make it worse to try it out.

Oatmeal baths helped my youngest. He would get horrible diaper rashes only when he was teething along with the runs. I also used Desitin. Not the Maximum strength cause that seemed to make it worse. The regular strength. I would also caked it on and of course changed his diaper frequently.good luck."I have a theory that placenta is brain matter I push out, so with each child I get dumber and dumber." ~ Unknown

I have a friend who's son had a rash that would not clear up no matter what. She eventually switched to cloth diapers and it cleared up.
Yeah my firstborn was like that. couldn't handle disposable so I only used them when I HAD to.

Borofax. It's amazing, but you can only get it online. It works for all diaper rash, especially yeast rash. It's called Tom's Borofax ointment, www.martinavenue.com and it's $14/60 gm jar. A retired OB/GYN nurse friend of mine told me about it. They also used it in the free clinics in Appalachia for gyn yeast infections for patients who couldn't afford gynelotrimin, etc. This stuff cleared up a blistered, oozing rash in 2 applictions.Bite me, cupcake!

Zincofax (brand name) was a god send for my DS when he got a wicked diaper rash that would not clear up with air time or anti-fungals..... but google yeast diaper rash photos to see if it looks anything like a yeast rash and give the anti-fungal creams (Canestin, etc) a try. Lots of warm baths to clean, and cloth diapers and/or air time if you can... Good luck!
-
I too would not wipe if they had the runs, just pop them in the tub and rinse with warm water. Then let them air dry for a while for sure. Definitely need the barrier cream before putting the diaper back on, I used Zincofax or Butte Paste. My daughter used to get bad rashes from diarrhea too, hope it clears up for you soon!

Thanks everyone. Just went to walmart and bought 4 types of butt cream, a fungus cream, tea, a pack of cloth diapers! The check out guy must have thought I had some major issues, lol. Right now im going to go plop d's not so cute little toush into an oatmeal bath.
-
DS had a terrible peeling, weeping rash at one point. We were instructed to use a combination of prescription antibiotic cream and lotrimin athlete's foot cream (NOT the spray, ouch!) at each diaper change. I also used my perineal irrigator bottle that I got in the hospital to hose him off after poops so I didn't have to wipe him and aggravate it. I just patted him dry and slathered on the goo.

A while back my twins had a horrible diaper rash and it wouldn't go away. Doctor said that it was due to the heat. My twins go outside most days and she explained that the diaper over heats and the regular creams does nothing because its a type of fungal type rash. She gave me the most inexpensive brand (HEB Anti-fungal cream). She did say to put it on 2 or 3 times and in between diaper changes to use the regular rash cream that I had at home (Dr. Smith's). Alternating between the two, With in 2 days it was gone.Good Luck momma =)

Burt's bees diaper ointment. That stuff works miracles!
-
if its bc of diahhreah as it sounds, I would suggest an oatmeal bath, a&d ointment coupled with extreme amounts of baby powder or corn starch. Always worjked wonders in exploding ass cases
-
I've used Anti Monkey Butt w chamomile. I got it from walmart.
-
Anti monkey butt is great but u can put plain yogurt on booty if yeast is suspected to be the culprit. Its a natural way to go. Also air will help so much. Lay out some old blankets and let her on them. I know the squirts make it hard. Maybe let her on an easy to clean tile floor...
-
Seriously, order the Borofax. Believe me, I tried EVERYTHING, including prescriptions, but the two things I did that completely rid me of diaper rash (except while on antibiotics) was the Borofax and using cloth diapers. Yes, cloth diapers, best thing I ever did was make that switch.Bite me, cupcake!

Nurse at my ped's office suggested mixing up this concoction in equal parts.Butt Paste (Its a brand of diaper stuffs)AquaphorLotrimine (as in the foot fungus stuff)Mix it up and apply twice a day. We call this the magic all better cream. My son is prone to yeast infections (identified by the red blistery dots and the screaming tone he takes when you have to change his diaper). I was shocked boys get them, but this stuff works. All I have to do is say "all better cream" and he calms down immediately knowing this makes that much difference. FYI - it will separate and look nasty in between uses. Just stir it up again.

I can not express this enough with rashes... CHAMOMILE TEA BATHS!
Get a big pot, fill it and bring to a boil. Tie about 10 tea bags together and toss them in! turn heat off and let sit until cool enough to carry to tub without spilling and causing major burn injuries. GOD forbid. Add tea to bath water and let your baby soak! Repeat the next day or multiple times a day if needed. It sooths and heals my son's eczema, sun burns, rash of any sort and makes the baby's skin and hair so so soft and is chemicle free! It also soothes upset tummies when sipped on. You can even keep some on hand and wipe baby's bottom after every changing. I swear by this! I hope it helps!

Did an oatmeal bath for her last night and have been slathering on the different creams and now that her squirts have stopped, the rash is clearing up!
Ps my "oatmeal" bath for her was literally a cup of oats in her bath.... is there a better way to do it so that next time I don't end up scooping breakfast out of my tub? It did leave her skin supper soft! -
When my son was potty training he got a wicked pimpley rash on his bottum and privates. It would not clear up. Took him to dr. And was told he had a staph infection on his skin. Apparently its common in pooty training toddlers. Antibiotics helped. But my dr. Told me to go to the drug store and buy dom boro powder mix. U mix it with warm water, soak a rag in it and apply compresses to the bottom. Worked great. My son has severe food allergies that affect his skin so we have had to deal with all kinds of rashes
-
@Hippiechickie821, do you have any knee-high pantyhose? Put the oats in there, tie a knot in the hose. Put in the tub and squeeze it a few times, then just let it be in the water... plus you can use it as a kind of loofah.

In the hospital NICU we used Mylanta or Maalox antacid mixed with a really thick rash cream like overnight Desiten. It really dries up the rash quickly, I've also mixed it with cornstarch and had good results. It will be hard to heal until the diarrhea is gone. Remember the BRATTY diet. Bananas, rice, apples, tea, toast and yogurt.

Use warm soft wash cloths instead of wipes for awhile.
A couple warm oatmeal milk baths a day... (1/4 c oatmeal blended until powder, 1 tbsp milk powder & 2 tsp baking soda = 2 or 3 bathtubs worth powder) with nakie time after, let it air out & dry nicely.
I mix a dab of polysporn, dab of vaseline & gob of destine cream to make a paste.
Use corn starch in the diapers instead of powders, just as a little something (soft like talc powder, unscented & gentle on sensitive skin). Only use the the powder at night when she will be in diapers longest.

I am so sorry your going through this. I had the same issue with my son! I tried any and everything and nothing worked very well. I then tried calmoseptine. It is the best thing ever!! It is around seven dollars a place like bi mart sells it. It lasts way longer, you need to use less. It gets rid of a rash a bad rash in a matter of 2 days completely gone. It can be used for people with sensitive skin, and is amazing! I have not had issues since I started using it a year ago, nd wont ever use any other product.I am your mother 1st, and your friend 2nd! I will always love you, but it is my responsibilty to make you a decent man for when you get older. You will thank me once your married, and will understand why I did the things I did while raising you!

I switched to cloth diapers when dd's rashes were getting out of control, a mommy friend suggested it. A day after switching she hasn't had a rash since. Even if you only did it when the rash was getting out of control it may help out- they are a little time consuming and can be gross, but IMO it is worth it.

Lifeisgood is definitely right! My daughter had horrid diaper rashes, horrible red angry, sometimes bleeding rashes. Our pediatrician always just recommended going diaper free, changing cremes etc. When she was nine months, I talked to the nurse on the phone (I was at my breaking point!) and she immediately said "That's a yeast infection!" Tried Lotremin and it started clearing up almost immediately. I always had it on hand from that point on.
When our second daughter was born, one of the first things I purchased was antifungal cream. Of course, it turned out that she never got a diaper rash!

The worst rash I saw was on a kid at the daycare I worked at. She came to us with it. Poor little girl. She was 8 months old and had a rash that had open bleeding sores on it. She came with a prescription tube of something , I wish I could remember the name though. We used that and vasaline every change and only clear water on a washcloth. We tried to be a gentle as we could, she was already in a full body cast. It was for a broken leg. The cast started under her armpits and went down to the middle of her calfs. There was a small opening so she could use the restroom. Changing her diaper was a two person job. Trying to keep the cast clean and dry was hard. Trying to keep her entertained and happy was hard too. Her femur was the bone that had broken, her dad claims it just snapped when he was changing her diaper. Yea like we believe that. Last I heard they lost all parental rights to her her older sister and brother. They brother an sister went to two diffrent aunts. She was staying with an aunt but as soon as they decided not to give them back to the parents that aunt dropped her into the system. I saw her and her brother and sister for a second ( long enough to say hi and how are you) about a year ago. They see each other at school and after care. The baby was in kidnegarden and such a happy little girl." Wibbly wobbly timey wimey ......." The Doctor

prescription diaper rash cream is generally Nystatin, @momofdbb. We used it, but I'm telling you, the Borofax worked the best, and really kept it from coming back. That and the cloth diapers. You really don't have to be organized for cloth, but it is a fair amount of money initially, after that, the cost is far, far less than dispos, and if you have another one, your're all set. Also, invest the $30 in a diaper sprayer!Bite me, cupcake!
-
Borofax really does work really good and if you can get a hold of it get it! A lady gave it to me for my ds and i never could find it to buy myself! It really is the best! Also there is this oatmeal bath powder you can buy and it also works great!
