At hospital been here an hour there taking so long. Anyways 2 years ago @ my dads house his ex gf got bit in backyard garden by a brown recluse, vontracted strep beta a which turned into necrofascis something i forget a flesh eating bacteria that caused extreme removal of flesh and muscle across more than half her body...why wont they listen to me?? What the hell do i do besides help calm her down? I hope everything is okay -
her eyes are very bloodshot
-
how old? I have been to the ER with DS1.5 twice and my ER has a separate trioge (sp?) for kids and basically no wait. It's hard to wait I know. *hugs*
was it necrotizing fasciitis? that's terrible! :(

@foulmouthedsailor might be able to help.
-
Oh no! :( That's horrible. Poor thing. Can you find a nurse to ask?Keep us posted.
-
@shate98 yes that was it, and she is 3

Okay, if it's necrotizing fasciitis (flesh-eating bacteria), the area that is red and swollen will spread very quickly. As in, almost fast enough to see with the naked eye. If that's not happening, it's not flesh-eating bacteria. If she seems to be getting worse or if the red area is spreading fast, yell, scream, do whatever you have to to get someone to look at her again. Otherwise, you're already in the ER and they will get to her as soon as they can. I know how scary it is when your little one is sick. Try not to freak out. She needs her mom to be calm and strong for her right now. You can freak out later.

@MamaMelody: Take her in. It doesn't really sound like a brown recluse bite as they don't usually have such severe systemic reactions, but more local. Their venom is enzyme based and breaks down the protein around the bite, causing the area to ulcerate (it gets bigger and bigger), This does, however, sound like it may be a Black Widow Spider bite. I have a huge problem with BW's in my garage and am really careful. The first time I saw one, I called Poison Control (I recommend you call them immediately), and they said that many people bitten by black widows are admitted for I.V. pain control, though to adults they are rarely dangerous beyond the severe pain.Whatever has bitten her, she is having a rather severe reaction and most definitely warrants a trip to at the very least, her doctor. I don't know where you are, but since it's likely after hours, I would head to the ER. Call her pediatrician and give them a heads up though and s/he may meet you over there.Bite me, cupcake!

IF your already at the hospital they may be able to determine what type of bite is, and if shes having an adverse reaction. With spider bites, the best thing you can do is put that area resting above the heart, put ice on it to keep the swelling down, acetaminophen(Tylenol) is usually what they give for it, and washing the area with luke warm soapy water. DO NOT PUT ANYTHING THAT CAUSES HEAT ON IT, and steroids are big no also. I she hope feels better, spider bites are sucky to deal with.

Necrotising fascitis can be common w/ brown recluse bites because of the chemical makeup of the venom, and not necessarily due to strep. TRY to keep her from scratching at it though, because you carry staph under your fingernails (along with all manner of other nasty stuff).Try not to panic, though I know this is hard when it's your baby. Go to the emergency room. NOW. You might give her a little benedryl if that settles her down and maybe some Tylenol. I wouldn't recommend ibuprofen as that can thin the blood, and I don't know if that would be contraindicated in a bite like this. Let me see if I can find some pics of bites that you can compare to.Bite me, cupcake!

@bellabefana, she's already at the hospital
@mamamelody, just keep an eye on her. If she gets worse in *any* way, get their attention!! -
She was bitten in her sleep on couch @ my dads, I am several towns away from home @ hospital by my dads, they think black widow possibly. It is very swollen but not swelling more that I can see, very red I can see two puncture wounds, it is on her shoulder area. I will definitely not be returning to my dads until he sprays for spiders. After I left to ER my man was cleaning and found 4 in just the room she was asleep in under newspaper. There was a black widow, a potatoe spider a brown widow and one unknown. I will post a pic of her bite when i can
-
Yep, it sounds like a black widow to me...good luck sweetie. I'm sorry you're having to deal with this...Bite me, cupcake!

She is asleep still at hosp but they put her on fluids and gave her motrin tylenol and amoxicillin, the swelling has gone down and we get to leave in an hour or so.
-
As they were deciding to discharge us and giving us discharge insructions they checked her temp and it went up since they gave the meds so we are stuck here a while longer while they try and figure this out
-
After another dose of tylenol her fever is gone! She perked up enough to drink some porange juice and eat a little jello and is talking again phew she had me freaked out. So I just have to keep her on meds and keep her fever away and we can fuinally go home
-
Glad everything is going well and you're on your way home :)
-
glad she is feeling better. It is for me to know and you to dot dot dot.

Bless her heart! My dd got a spider bite when she was around that age. It is so scary when something attacks your child, and you aren't sure what it is. Sending you guys positive thoughts and healing energy!
-
@mammateeroll she was doing pretty good last night once fever was gone and now she is burning and thermometer broken I gave her tylenol abt to run to store n grab a thermometer, put cool towel down her whole back from neck to thigh and hoping she doesnt have to go back!
-
when I got bit as a kid, my mom always took and drew a circle around the red spot with the time, if it got bigger she would draw another circle with the time that way it could be documented how much it had grown in how long, we lived in the country and spider bites were common. If it got bigger than the size of a softball we would then go to ER, but the maker on it was good to keep track
Good luck with miss independant!

@MamaMelody: try some ibuprofen for her...that always worked better than tylenol for fevers for mine. @Ashdawn684 has a good idea, but don't hesitate to get her back in if you need to. Also, be a little careful with the wet towels, if she gets chilled, her fever can spike.Bite me, cupcake!
-
@bellabefana the ibuprofen doesn't affect her fever at all, it actually raised after a dose yesterday, tylenol works wonders on her. For the towel I used luke warm water so she wouldnt cool off too quickly and she said it felt nice, and fever went down a short while later(a combo of the two I bet) now she is doing ok just taking it easy laying down watching kung fu panda

poor thing...it SUCKS to be sick, and it sucks even more to watch your little ones being sick! Popsicle's, the toddler cure all!Bite me, cupcake!

Bless her heart! So sorry momma!!! Big hugs to you both! Glad she is feeling better!
