I have posted on here before about my car lots of times.  Its turbo charged and tends to be a bit of a gas hog plus we cannot put anything but premium in it.  Hubby and I were messing around with the tuner we have for it  and there is an economy mode on it!!!!  The tuner will also tell us  what our gas milage is if we keep it plugged in while driving.  without the economy mode we got about 20 miles to the gallon.  Any way we loaded up the economy tune last night  just to see and took the car for a drive  we averaged about 31 miles to the gallon!!!!!  FREAKING SWEET.  My car doesn't have as much power on the economy tune but that is just fine  for our rides  or going too and from work  Hello savings on gas money!!!!!  its like having a freaking hybrid.   I am so excited about this I just had to share!!

That's great! My dh is convinced he needs peremium in his mustang. He "did the gears and tuner" in it last year. It's nothing special, but it's ours, paid for, and he likes to wash and fiddle with it. I like it because it's a convertible. He showed me the options the tuner has, it's amazing, all you have to do is tell it your modifications, and it asks you if you want gas saving, high end speed or more power. Maybe a few more.
(in case you couldn't tell, I'm not a car girl)

Our car we actually HAVE to put premium in it  i mean it will run on lower grade gas but if something were to go wrong with the car  and we took it to Subaru they would actually test our gas tank and  that new motor we just put in the 2 year warranty would be void. I was not planning on having kids when I bought this car at all  and i had a really good job so I didnt care too much at the time..... but at least now we have this to save on gas.

@oximom You don't happen to have an STI do you? My husband has an STI and it gets like 12 miles to the gallon with the tune it has on it. I think maybe I will have him take it back to the toner and find out about that economy mode.

It's a WRX we use the Cobb tuner though. It plugs in to the plug on the bottom of the dash and you can load whatever tune you want to use. The Cobb tuners are EXPENSIVE though 300-400 I think but DH got this one cheap used for 200 and it will end up paying for itself soon with this tune on it. I THINK the Cobb tuner can work on an STi but totally call Cobb they have great customer service. Oh also get the stage two tuner not stage one. If his car was pro tuned though have him talk to Cobb or the tuner before he loads any maps. We just went 2 weeks on one tank DH going too and from work and several long car rides.

Correction it's the cobbs access port version 2. We put stage 2 on for more aggressive driving economy tune for daily driving.

Yes yes they do. My faith waivered this summer as the motor seized with no warning and the car had oil in it. When our mechanic got the motor out though it was obvius the failure was due to the last owner beating on it and doing a quick patch job and then selling it to a dealership. Nothing we could have done to avoid it. Now our radiator leaks but only occasionally stock Subaru uses a radiator with plastic rather then all metal and for the miles on the car and the history if it being neglected were not suprised 100 bucks for an all metal replacement a few bolts and it will be changed. The clutch is also starting to slip on it but the car is close to 200k miles I'm the 3rd owner and learned to drive stick in it. So it's kind of impressive it's lasted so long. Our mechanics jokingly accused me of lying about learning to dive stick in it since I didn't burn the clutch up. Once we replace the clutch and radiator we will have rebuilt the entire car :( but since it's all been rebuilt there is no doubt my car will go another 200k plus with how we baby it we expect another 400k without problems.

Sadly winter blend gas has us down to 25mpg even with the economy tune. In many states they change the gas in summer and winter. Summer gas burns more efficient but can freeze in cold temps so winter gas they add stuff to it to make it better in the cold temps but it kills milage.
