Ok so my dd is only 2 but she is constantly eating. She is only 25 lbs, but she is constantly eating. She eats pretty good for her age, carrots, green beans, peas, apples, strawberries, etc... But she can put a entire pint of strawberries away with out blinking an eye, and still be hungry. She drinks enough milk and water, with a little juice. Do I stop her? Or even try to curb her from eating so much? She occasionally has junk but she prefers veggies and fruit. Is she had a choice between a cookie and a strawberry, the strawberry wins every time. But going thru 20 pints of strawberry a month seems excessive. Mind you, that's only one of her snacks. She eats like 6x's or more a day.

Nope, I say don't stop, especially not at that weight!!!! My DD is also too, with similar eating habits (but she weighs 31lbs) and her doctor said she looks happy and healthy. As long as have is eating healthy foods, why restrict them?

She sounds normal to me :)
The answer is chocolate. I don't care what the question is.

fruits and such are healthy, but not very filling so it makes sense she eats a lot in one sitting.  not sure what else to say, but that may be the reason.

Maybe try to throw a little more protein into the mix? Just to make her snacks a little more filling. She is a growing girl, and a good weight, and eating healthy foods, so I can't see it being a problem.

My gremlins are the same way.  They just barely made it on the weight scale before they were one. Now we are at the 10% ish mark.  They munch allll day and eat 3 big meals. They also have turned down chocolate for vegetables.  It was around that point that I was considering bringing them back to the hospital.  There's NO WAY these kids are related to me!!  :-D

No don't stop her. It's fruits and vegetables. My parents would kill to have us eat any vegetable and we are adults lol. She is doing very well, not many kids eat like that. Try to go to a Costco or BJ's and get it in bulk and it would be cheaper for you.

LMAO @ToryuredbyTWINS lol that is so weird but its really a blessing.

I would say as long as her snacks continue to be healthy then not to worry about it too much. However, as kids get older and are around other kids their eating habits evolve. If they are int he habit of eating all the time it can be hard to keep them from doing that when they start to prefer more junk.

My youngest wouldn't eat anything when he was little except applesauce, then he added some fruits and veggies. He hated french fries until he was 6. Now he is 14 and he eats non stop (its now a habit, I do not believe he is really as hungry as he says he is) and he makes horrible food choices given the chance. When there is only fruit and veggies for him to snack on I don't worry as much but he loves bread and will pig out on that if no one stops him.

I just know once they are in the habit, its really hard to break them.

Oh yeah, absolutely keep going! my son was 3 at the end of may and he is 41lb.
I would add more fillng foods too, maybe some nuts?
Also, if she eats 3 good rounded meals every day I would continue what you are doing. If she prefers the snacks, i would start limting them, You can have set snacktimes and give her a decent amount, but sometimes the grazing all day means a kid wont eat their dinner.

WOW, my DS18mos eats alot too! He can put down more than me and SO any day. As long as we give him plenty of protein, he does really well, but he'll eat anything!

Ill try to increase her protein but it's hard when the girl doesn't like meat. She hates chicken, and I love it. I have to hide it for her to eat it. Nuts, peanut butter, eggs,..... Anything else that has lots of protein?

Yogurt and cheese are also high in protein. You could also try her on some tofu? Maybe a stirfry?

Oh, and fish. Will she eat tuna?

@pallasathene She is lactose intolerant, when I say milk I mean almond milk. But they came out with lactose free yogurt that she likes. Wonder if that has a high protein content. I'll have to go look. Tuna is iffy, sometimes she will eat it and sometimes no.
Lol I totally forgot that beans are a good protein source. Thanks @llb

I just finished the book "Bringing up Bebe" written by an American about how French children are raised. The children there eat their three meals and one snack at 4:00. Sweets are never eaten at dinner or afterwards. I was struck at the difference between their habits and American. It might explain how no one there is overweight.
As long as your daughter is snacking on healthy foods I dont see a problem with it. I would worry more about her establishing the habit of eating constantly and eating not so healthy food later.

Thanks @beachy! I've heard of those but never have been brave enough to Try to cook them. Have you had them before? Dd hates rice in any form or flavor. Is it like that texture?

It can be, depending on how long you cook them. I ccok mine aldente, cause I don't like no mush in my mouth. So the less you boil the better. They kinda pop when you chew it. Which I like. Don't buy red, it's more bitter! Buy the yellow. It doesn't have a strong flavor. I make a Mediterranean salad with lemon juice and olive oil and that dispells any of the slight bitterness of the yellow quinoa.
Btw, I kinda hate rice, too. But don't tell my Asian dh and hoppa kids! They eat rice morning, noon, and night! Ugh.

Be glad! My children refuse to eat! It's a fight to get them TO eat let alone stopping them from eating :) that's a perfectly healthy weight and she will eat until she's full (no weight or negative psychological associations with food at this point) so... Eat up little one!

I do feel a little guilty that my dd eats and it's usually not a struggle, when you hear about children that won't eat. @wildandfree she was 23 lbs for an entire year before she finally gained, but it's worried me because she eats so much. It puts me to shame!

No worries, @sasafras. Children grow and eat on their own timeline. as long as yr doc doesn't see a problem, then nor should you.
2 years old at 25 lbs makes me want to give her bacon, lol! My dd2 is 27 lbs, but slim as a whisper. And she can outeat everyone! We have a joke about family get togethers, what are you bringing, how much? Well you know Tay will be there, better stock up. (and we have Samoans in our immediate fam). No offense anyone, they would not be offended by this.

I wouldn't worry about it if she's not overweight, just make sure she's getting plenty of protein and is meeting her growth milestones.

Her head circumference has always been on the small size compared to her body, and her speech isn't what I would expect from a 2 yo, but everything else in on mark, @bellabefana, btw when I read your name I, for some strange reason think of the chaquita banana, bellafana, chaquita banana. So strange I know lol.

lol, not even close! I wouldn't worry too much about her speech, but if you are start keeping a word diary and note what words are clear, what ones you can't understand, etc.  I'll bet she says more than you think.

She is getting better but I count at least 5 that are clear. The rest is garbled, I am assuming that she will have some type of speech therapy. Which is ok

@Sasafras I think the other ladies have given you great suggestions on your daughter's diet, so I don't have anything to add to that.  Just wanted to say DS is 2.5 and didn't start putting words together into sentences until last month, and it seems I'm the only one that can understand him sometimes.  His development has been completely on his own time, no one can rush him!

Spawn is a total grazer. He will eat a bite here and there ALLL day long, but you couldn't get him to sit down and sit still long enough to eat a meal all at once if you hogtied him to the dining table LOL
Sometimes, he will eat 2 platefulls of something, and then next thing you know, it's just one or two bites!
He drives me nuts, but it's totally normal during this age. Eating, or refusing to, is one of their first little stabs at independence. As the other ladies have said, as long as she is healthy, and her ped hasn't notated a concern with her weight, I wouldn't stress over it!

One "treat" Spawn really likes is sliced apples, with honey-roasted peanut butter to dip it in, and cubed cheese, with grapes. That's his afternoon I-didn't-really-want-what-you-fixed-me-for-lunch-so-I-messed-over-it-because-I-know-you-will-give-me-fruit-later snack  :D  He will eat like 3 bananas and a weenie for breakfast (seriously, he's so weird, but I don't argue, I'm just the waitress here...), slobber and toss whatever I fix for lunch, pile up on fruit about mid-afternoon, and then he eats whatever we're having for supper.

And I TOTALLY hear you on the strawberries! I seriously cannot afford to keep Spawn in strawberries. He would eat them all day every day until he explodes I think!

My ds has been suprising me lately with all he is saying. Lol. Ok most of it has been how he is NOT going to do what we asked him to do , but full sentences ! His teacher told him to go down stairs and get on his mat for naptime , he said " no I do not want to go downstairs and I don't want to take a nap. " followed by the classic " you can't make me!" She promptly picked his 4 year old little butt up and carried him down the stairs and put him on his cot. He said " I am NOT taking a nap!" =)) yea he went from this [-( to this I-) is no time. The goob. Since he was so late that he started talking he still surprises me.

@autumn thank you, I know she will talk when she wants, but I'm trying not to worry. I think speech therapy would help, I had to have it when I was in kindergarten due to a misshapen palate.
@love she is more of a grazer so, it feels like I just fed her and she is hungry again, but the amount she eats is what worries me. She is a little peanut where the hell does that food go?
@tothemoonandback I'll trade for a while. My grocery budget is hurting. It's so expensive trying to feed a child with four stomachs lmao

@Sasafras I'm glad to know I'm not the only one with a 25lb 2yr old who eats more than I do. I swear my son has TWO hollow legs!
DH asked DS at dinner tonight which leg he was going to put the apple in when DS asked for an apple after eating 3 eggs, 1/2 a bagel, a peach, some cucumber and a bowl of yogurt. Poor kid looked so confused trying to figure out how to put the apple in his leg.

Let her eat.  But here is an cautionary tale, my son LOVE(s/d) tomatoes, cherry tomatoes are the best thing to him and he would sit and eat a 2 lb box of them in one sitting.  Due to all the acid in the tomatoes it would burn his butt and cause a rash so I had to slow down the intake.  Just watch what she eats and makes sure it isnt to acidic.  Butt rashes are the worse.

    @456lmamom that's too cute!
@mericksmom thanks for the tip, I'm surprised she isn't turning red from all the strawberries.
She likes spicy food, so I'm very careful cause I know that can cause some irritation.

    @love I do feel like a waitress/cook I'm always in the kitchen

If I was worried about anything then maybe about her teeth if she's snacking all the time.
Maybe give her some gum or xylitol pastilles?
(That's what we give our kids after meals in Finland to prevent caries, don't know if you have them..?)

For weight gaining: I would maybe also add some good oils into her diet.
    That's also common in Finland.

Healthy kids usually know how much and when they need to eat. We just need to give then good things to eat :)
    I wouldn't worry too much :)
Finally figured out what's wrong with my brain:
On the left side there's nothing right & on the right side there's nothing left.

My daughter is younger (16mos), but she eats fruit like it's going out of style. Can a child survive on fruit alone? Oh, and cheese?
