Battle of the thermostat.

    Who else has this battle?

I'm cold all the time except maybe when it gets into the high 90's mid 80's is perfect to me!

DH on the other hand loves it cooler mid 60's maybe 70. In the summer the AC is set low and the celing fans are going leaving me under a blanket on the couch or long sleeves.

Winter SUCKS. With heating costs we keep the house on the low end but to me winter a house at 68 feels like its in the 50's. I wear layers 24/7 in the winter. DH is perfectly happy chilling on the couch in boxers.

In the summer when he is at work the AC gets turned off or I raise the temps till like 30 min before he comes home. Winter I can't do much because of heating costs but I bake and cook alot more to run the oven.

It's 72 in the house today windows open fans on a fresh breeze blowing in the windows and I'm wearing sweats and a hoodie.

So what side are you on. Do u like it warmer or colder do you fight over the temp in the house?

I have to add tho I sleep much better when it's cooler.

I like the house a bit cooler, but I'm heavier than DH and get too warm quickly. He likes to have our boiler cranked up to about 80 degrees since it's usually mid 50's here year round. Yes, we definitely have the "heat" fight. He rarely wears clothes at home, and then bitches about our gas bill. ¬_¬

It's a constant fight. I usually win the battle in the winter because I'll put my cold toes all over him. Since he prefers me to not do that he will turn the heat up. In the winter I like the temp at 76-78, but it gets really cold here and dh would rather it stay at 68-70 and everyone wear multiple layers.
In the summer he wins every battle. I'm usually freezing and he's hot, so I just wear long sleeved and warm socks.

I don't fight the SO, I fight the teenager who wants it very warm at night, when the rest of us sleep so much better when it is a little cooler.  So she has a space heater in her room, but often turns up the heat after we are in bed so I wake up sweating in the middle of the night.

It's funny you posted this as my hubby and I just got into a fight about the thermostat! Hehe. He drives me batshit crazy with his weird temps! He used to keep the house freezing cold, and we all kinda got used to putting on sweats and hoodies in the house. At night I to like it cool in the house. I hate being hot when I sleep. BUT recently he is like a menopausal woman! When it's warm outside he will turn on the heat..yes the heat in the summer first thing in the morning. Drives me freakin nuts!! Then when it cools off at night he will have it below zero. I usually just go adjust it when he's not looking, but I got fed up and yelled at him :/ I think I was extra irritated bc my dd9 is now messing with the thermostat whenever she feels like it. I'm swear I'm going to buy a cover or something that has a key only I can open! Hehe.

I get warmer than him.. But I deal during the day, he deals at night... I resist turning the a/cs on during the day so that I can keep the one in our room cranked at night. Honestly when we sleep our room is like 60 XD

We keep it around 78 in the summer & 68-70 in the winter. I'm so excited about the cooler temps!! It's going to be 56 tonight :-D

When Dh and I lived together, fortunately we both liked it like a meat locker year round. Im always hot so my temps are usually never above 68* year round.

It is forever 68 degrees in here! I would like it warmer but we made a deal: 68 degrees, 365 days a year and he NEVER gets to bitch when I buy new socks, slippers, sweats and sweatshirts LOL If you come by on a 90 degree day I'll be wearing winter clothes when I open the door :-)

    Same here @OxiMOM - I mean EXACTLY!

It's a constant fight, He turns the AC on high-full blast, and it feels like a fucking ICE BOX.
so... I turn it completely OFF and just run the ceiling fans, and Spawn and I are content.
Until Eric notices that he's getting hotter, and the air is mysteriously silent LMAO

He says he can't breathe. I told him to take off some clothes and get some menopausal hormone medicine.
I should NOT have to sit under a damn blanket when it's 120 outside.

But I should mention, he grew UP with central heat and air,so that's all he knows. That's what he's use to.

I grew up with ceiling fans, and a fireplace, and that was it. We didn't even have a window unit.

My SO enjoys the cooler side of things. I hate it.lol I told him that if he keeps it so cold, he has to deal with me being wrapped around him all night.lol

I need it cool in here. The thermostat stays at 75. I always have the ceiling fan in our room and the living room going. My husband knows not to mess with the thermostat or the fans. I think I've found a good balance. But... he pretty much freezes his butt off all the time, but he does it because he loves me, and he values his life.

It used to be a problem in our house until one day DH came home to a 74 degree house in the middle of the summer while his car air was out.  He wanted to set the thermostat at 78 in the summer to save on the electricity.  Well, I clean and take care of the kids and doing so in 78 degrees is not gonna happen for me.  I would always turn it down until abt 30 minutes before he would be home then put it back on his 78.  I forgot to do that once and when he came in and said, "Wow, it feels GREAT in here." I didn't get any more argument over it.

I understand that oil costs $, but I get COLD...
My ex would open the window during a freaking blizzard!
Turn on the heat? He'd be dying... but in the summer it's okay to freeze me with the A/C.

My current husband likes it 65°-70° at all times.

God forbid I have the heat on, even though it's included in our rent...Even when it's -10°

Luckily, we are in agreement about the household temps.

we're pretty much in agreement as well. summertime we both like it cool and winter we keep it between 65-67. our house is all brick so it absorbs the sun which helps in the winter. sucks in the summer though if we don't have the air on.

Jeff and I disagree about temp too. When I had a new thermostat installed last year, I had the tech set it to read seven degrees colder than it actually is. Problem solved. Bwah ha ha.

For us, around 65F is ideal.

H and I both line it cool, winter is likely around 65 or so, and summer ideal is 70-75. BUT. This summer was wicked humid, and really hot, and the way our place is, there's a sliding door at either end of the first floor. These places were built in the 70's so they're not very energy efficient, landlord doesn't update or upgrade much.

So junes light bill was a little high, but when I saw July's at$350 I turned into the thermostat nazi. Evetytime he wasn't looking or wasn't home I had to keep turning it up. I just couldn't imagine opening August's bill to see $500. Luckily my sneainess paid off, cuz it went down.

I keep telling g him if we moved to a newer place we might pay a higher rent but our utilities would likely go down, so it'd be a wash. He's a hardhead tho. And he hates to move. But I'm done. This will be our 3rd year here and I refuse to re-sign the lease again....

I am seriously part lizard, I am cold at 73. I sneak it up to 75 and SO instantly knows. He prefers to freeze at night, fan by his head on his nightstand and the ceiling fan going. I can't handle the ceiling fan though, it gives me a head cold. Basically, in the summer he gets too hot and in the winter I get too cold...

I need it cold all the time. Dh likes it warmer. He hates using AC in the car too!!

This summer it was really hot its been set at 68 or so. but our room temp in the morning gets up to 102* some days with the sun... so I started putting a towel on top of the blinds and curtains in our room. Its helped a lot.

Winter dh is always turning the heat up an I turn it down. We bought one of those electric fire place mantle thingys last year an it was great.

We want an electric fire place and may get one with tax return this year. IF we don't buy a house with an actual fire place. I'm all for a wood burning stove or fire place or pellet stove. Oil costs are insane and where we are looking to buy natural gas won't be an option unless we pay to truck in propain. I'm all for a damn wood stove ect. I have also researched how to make "logs" to burn in the winter. Shredded paper and shredded leaves mix with water stick in PVC pipe with drainage compress for an hour or two let dry. Apprently a good sized one can burn for 3 hrs !!! Go go survival Oximom. Hell if we had a wood burning stove I'd do it now. I love it warm but we have to offset the oil prices some how.

This is an ongoing battle at our house. DH likes it cold, really cold, and I am a tiny munchkin who is cold ALL the time. Even in 90 degree heat, I lie on the couch in the evenings watching tv with a giant blanket and my Siberian husky. I turn off the A/C because I'm freezing, DH turns it back on. Car trips are a nightmare; I've learned to take a sweatshirt and a blanket. Unfortunately, sleeping with this furnace of a man gets worse with my age. I sweat, and toss and turn, and try to get as far on my side as I can just to get away from the heat. I feel your pain. The battle over the thermostat and the remote control rage on here.

During the day in the summer we keep it at 70, unless it is beastly hot outside. Then I keep the shades drawn and turn the thermostat a little higher so it's not running all the time. As long as the house is cooler and less humid than outside we're happy. At night it's down to 68. Our bedrooms are all on the second floor, and we're all hot sleepers, beaties included.

Winter we keep the house at 72ish and 70 at night. The beasties are like me and run hot to begin with. And DH and I love any excuse to cuddle on the coch under a blanket. :-)

I'm always freezing. I keep the ac at work on 77, and most days end up putting a sweater on. I'm always layering. Some days in the winter I'll have on up to 4 shirts.

Since having kids in always cold! Dh is the one walking around the house in boxers while I'm wearing sweats, socks and slippers and still cold!

During the summer I usually turn the ac off during the day until about an hour before dh gets home. I don't mess with the heat in the winter though because we have oil heat and it's freaking expensive even if I just up the temp a couple notches! I'm better off just bundling up.

    I keep a relatively cool house. 68°.
Hubby complains, but puts on a jacket and he's fine.
The kids are seemingly like me... Anything above 68° and they are sweating and miserable.
::unless we are outside, in that case, mysteriously there is a reason for it to be warm::

I win. I like the temp at between 65 and 75 no matter what time of year it is. I don't get cold. When I get too warm I can't sleep well and that makes me grumpy. So SO wears sweats and sleeps under extra blankets and I get to be comfortable! :D

    ^^^^ this! :D

I run hot (well, hotter than DH anyway), and prefer
the temp anywhere between 70-76 in the summer. If I am sweating in the
house, we have a major problem! Especially in bed - DH sleeps in shorts
and a tee with 2 blankets; I sleep in the buff, with the ceiling fan
running and only a sheet. He says, 'I'll catch a draft!' What are you,
    96? Suck it up, Buttercup!

The worst is on warm humid days; I start sweating before I'm even dry from my shower. Ugh! I feel dirty all over again.

I like it warmer during the day, but watch out during the night! We put the fan in the window, even in the dead of winter, and sleep naked under a down comforter. It is the best sleep, ever! We've even woken up to snow in the bedroom, on the floor. Watch out, though, if you have to get up at night for any reason, lol, you have to RUN somewhere, or you will freeze something off!
