Hmmmm. I do love me some lady-parties, but wouldn't want them to become my main social milieu. Thoughts?

What I find incredibly interesting is that there can be "Women Only" clubs, etc., but Lord help men if they want to keep women out!Bite me, cupcake!

@BellaBefana, I agree! It's funny to me how women's sufferage and equal rights movements have been so pivotal in the last several decades for the advancement of women in society, and now that we are getting close to equal, we start to segregate ourselves. It's almost like all that was done just to see if we could...but on the other hand, it's like saying that we have come so far in our struggle to be perceived as equals that we have surpassed the need to have men in our company. I personally prefer mixed company. I think I'd be bored pretty quickly if my whole social life (not that I have one, mind you) revolved around other women.

I don't even like going to wedding and baby showers. But then again...in my circles they are usually all female and alcohol free...

I like certain things to be girls only. Like my Zumba class. There's this one dude that shows up once in a while. I'm like GTFO! With his loud clapping and grinding. I give him dirty looks the whole time. Can't I sweat in peace?!

I see what you mean, @BellaBefana! However, I think the difference is that the article addresses self-selecting private parties rather than established institutions. It's a different situation from women (or anyone) being barred from the local Chamber of Commerce, or not being able to own land or vote. There are still male-only fraternities and social clubs, after all.
I also think that my perspective is somewhat skewed, because I grew up in a house of women. My poor father had 8 daughters from two different marriages, and no sons! I'm really close to my sisters, mom and grandma. For most of my teenage years and 20s, I preferred the company of men, or at least mixed crowds. Now, in my 30s, women don't seem so silly and competitive. And they don't care if I talk about my vagina, which let's face it, happens a lot.

I admit I do like a girls only get together, but not all the time.
I don't think segregation of the sexes is a good idea, I'd rather have all the kids together to learn how to work together from the start. -

No, I get it, and to me it's fine to have either "girls only" or "guys only" events whether private or public. What I find amusing is that while there are, technically, "men only" clubs, country clubs, etc., if a woman wanted to join (though why a woman would is beyond me) it turns into a huge political, "Women's Rights" issue. To be honest, I would LOVE to see men raise a stink over a restriction because quite honestly I really don't get why women feel the need to invade the guys so much!Edited to add: oops, sorry, not sure why it didn't quote correctly.Bite me, cupcake! -

For me it just depends on the event. There are times when I do prefer the company of women to men, and vice versa. I think it's kind of silly to invite little boys to a little girl's "tea party" birthday party, and let's face it, there's gonna come the time when a little girl is going to want a totally frilly, frou frou party!Bite me, cupcake! -
