Alright you crafty mamas and Pinterest loving gals! I'm trying to tackle the overwhelming task of organizing my house on a nonexistent budget with three kids and a husband who is a borderline hoarder, I'd swear it in court. Hit me with those awesome crafty ideas! <3
-
Put it in the wrong spot... eep! Stupid mouse scroll thingy! I'm sure someone will move me to where I'm supposed to be
-
Where did it go?
-
I was thinking Home Life would be appropriate, but wherever the mods think it should be. Here is fine too
-
@la_pygmyherder I've seen cork boards made out of wine corks. Just save the corks till you have enough for whatever size you want and glue them together.
-
=)) =)) =)) =)) =)).Oops, you weren't joking were you? Sorry, but I've been trying to do that FOREVER, so I find getting sewing/crafty stuff organized quite comical! I've got my really good material draped over the pants hangers from dry cleaners...the ones with the cardboard tubes...and hanging up, the rest I have in clear plastic boxes. One thing that is great for the little stuff and scissors, etc. are those utility boxes at Home Depot with the little clear plastic drawers? And the flat hanging fabric shoe things you put on the backs of doors? You can actually make those fairly easily.Bite me, cupcake!
-
@Bellabefana lol I have blackmailed Dh. If we get the house and closets organized he can buy more gun stuff. He called that a "big ass carrot". So now he's like "Do the research wench!"
@nessarose Ashamed to say it here, but I actually don't drink that much wine lol
-
@la_pygmyherder also cut a piece of magnet strip and stick it along the bottom of the bathroom mirror ( or wherever) to hold bobby pins, clips, tweezers and stuff.
-
@la_pygmyherder maybe put the word out and have friends save their corks for you too.
-
Which room do you want to tackle first? Or which objects?Searching for my lost shaker of salt.
-
@Beachy I'm doing the kids' rooms first, then mine, then the kitchen. Dh is building me new shelves in the kitchen for dry storage, cast iron, cookbooks, etc.
-
Shoe boxes, wrap them with gift paper to make them pretty and use them for socks, underwear, small toys, and the small crap that is always around. I have my batteries stored this way and the computer wires.
-
Ok kids rooms. What do they need? Like storage?Searching for my lost shaker of salt.
-
@organicbaby I love shoe boxes! Great for so many things,! ( are you back In the states now?)

@Beachy places to put clothes they need to grow into, dress up stuff, hairbows (we have a bow holder, but it's overflowing!), shoes, the boys have a dresser and clothes basket that take up all the floor space in their closet and share a room so their running out of room for everything, bags and backpacks
-
Do their beds have legs? You can buy lifters at target for sure, maybe $7 a pack and then you have more room under the bed for storage. Or even use wood blocks, my mom used those for me. Do you have a double row in the closets? That is a space saver! Again, target, or Walmart for under $10. But you could totally macguiver that with rope and a broom handle, brooms $1 at the dollar tree.Searching for my lost shaker of salt.
-
paper/fabric covered shoe boxes are great for hair stuff, that's what I've got all my clips, barrettes, etc., in.Bite me, cupcake!
-
Have you seen a bow holder yet? It's just a length of ribbon, hanging on the wall you attach bows to. Walmart ribbon under $5.Searching for my lost shaker of salt.
-
@Beachy I made one. It has 3 rows of ribbon, but she has all kinds of barrettes, bands, and ribbons that won't go on it. Neighbor went on a bow making binge too. Her daughter is older so mine was the beneficiary >.<
-
For the hair ties an oversized D ring from home depot....just sew a loop at the bottom of the bow holder and slide the head bands through that and you can clip the d ring to the loop as well
-
Let us then revisit purty shoeboxes.
I bet you can call Payless and get shoeboxes for free.Searching for my lost shaker of salt. -
Oh and I just joined a shitload of local community share sites on fb, well, share, trade, free, or cheap. I see tons of furniture like bookshelves and organizers.

I should show you a picture of my dd's room. SHE is a hoarder of small objects, so there is storage all over her room. Baskets under the bed, a hat storage hanger on the back of the door for all her hair and jewellry and assorted shit, I hung her 15 hats from a chain on the ceiling. Now we actually can see the floor and the top of her dresser.See ya in another life, sister!
-
I had something like this for shoes on the inside of my closet door and my shoes were always neat. It is cheap and works wonders.Yes @Beachy I am back in the States, thanks for asking :)
-
^^^ that's what I was talking about for all kinds of storage uses, not just shoes.Bite me, cupcake!
-
oh, also if you have a Nordstrom or other high end dept store, check with them for boxes, the more expensive shoes come in really heavy weight boxes that are perfect for covering.I like fabric to cover with as it doesn't tear like paper, but whichever you go with use a glue gun or spray glue (especially the spray on for paper)Bite me, cupcake!
-
I used the diaper boxes to store things in the garage and I have seen people use wipes boxes, the plastic ones, to store crafts for the kids. Also, if you go to the stores early in the morning they will be happy to give you as many cardboard boxes as you need.
-
I use baby wipe boxes for storing small items. They're sturdy and I use a sharpie to label the front of the boxes & things are easily found. (oh gawd, kill me now. Just thought of butthole sharpies *shudder*)

Look, cheap underbead storage from ikea
-
My dad use to keep screws, nails and this kind of stuff in empty food glass jars. My MIL has her spices in the kitchen in jam jars, all the same, they look cute.I have more ideas but they come out in pieces for some reason :)
-
Magazine holders from USPS boxes (those are free at the post office). I have also done something like this with cereal boxes and the very handy gift paper.
