Wouldn't it just be like us moms to have a category for everyone and everything but ourselves! Lol please feel free to move this if you can find a more appropriate section. Or maybe we need a "just for me" section.

Anyway growing up I was a tomboy, I played with cray fish and in trees while my sister played with make up and high heels. In highschool I was the only cheerleader who didn't know how to pluck her eyebrows (still don't) and could do three hair styles, blow dried, scrunched, and pony/messy bun. Not much has changed.

I can't put together a style, I hit the thrift stores and most of my clothes are kind of funky and maybe a little immature. I know how to do my make up one way and I've been doing it like that for years! The only thing that has changed about it is I no longer wear eyeliner. I still get zits, wtf I'm 25... Aren't zits for teenagers? I am basically esthetically challenged. Now I was fine living in denial until the other day when dan, yep that's right, my man told me I had too many stray eye brows. The thing is my eyebrows have no shape IMO. Here I'll show you what I mean

    Photobucket Pictures, Images and Photos

And whenever I've had them done I feel they make them too thin to get some shape, like this.

    Photobucket Pictures, Images and Photos

That's also an example of the ONLY way I know how to do make up.

Now that winter is coming I'm going to have some seriously bad dry skin on and around my nose as well as my hands. I use apricot scrub and ponds lotion not that is helps lol but at least I feel like I'm trying to get it under control.

So I need some tips ladies. Simple baby steps to start please. Teach me how to be more feminine and how to enjoy being girly! Right now it just feels like a chore :s
Oh and while I'm seeking advice I may as well see if any of you have a solution for a dandruff problem. Mine is more of a psoriasis problem but not bad enough to get a prescription. For the longest time nizoral worked great for me but after years of use it is no longer effective. I switched to seldom blue but I need to use it every time I wash my hair to get a very temporary relief. I do not wash my hair everyday, let's be real, I'm lucky to wash. it 3 times a week but it's more like 2. So I have to use the special shampoo then reg shampoo then conditioner. Who has time for that shit!? Help me! Love a desperate mama who's man is starting to notice she is part boy child.

eyebrows... simple. take in these pictures and say "I want to get rid of the stray ones. but I need thicker ones then this!"

You're adorable, but you're right about the eyebrows. just a SHADE too thin for your face.

I can't help with anything else :( I am oily skin and oily scalp.

I tried to wax my own eyebrows 2 weeks ago.... I used the "guide" stickers or whatever they are and didn't realize that the hot wax had actually slid under one of the guide strips..... I realized this after I ripped both strips off and had a gap in the middle of my right eyebrow..... Never again will i try to wax my own eyebrows.

First off, your eyebrows have a lovely shape, just pluck some of the strays from under the natural arch to the very end. Only a LITTLE plucking! It may be easier of you line your brow for the shape you want and pluck outside of those lines.
As for everything else, you are gorgeous and don't really NEED any help.

I pluck my own eyebrows but can't be pissed to do it regularly so they're usually a little ragged. Meh. To me you look girly enough, no need to over do it! A little foundation, some mascara and lip gloss and bam. That all I do anyways..one thing that I treasure though to keep me feeling "girly"even though I'm usually really low maintenance is lotion. I use some really yummy smelling lotion every day and it instantly make me feel glamorous, not sure why. My favorite is coconut body butter from The Body Shop mmmmm

    @meanmy423 it's about that here.

And for you and @eapple, waxing has an added benefit! Once you've done it a few times, the hair will stop growing in as darkly (read: you don't have to do it nearly as often!) I haven't done mine in about 4 years, but they still have a nice shape. Of course, I can't go too thin because of this awesome scar I have in my left eyebrow, but it's still nice not to go all sasquatch every few weeks like I used to when I tweezed.

As for moisturizers, I never have had to use one until now. Try Bare Minerals brand anything. Amazing products that are super great for your skin!

You dont have to turn into Barbie to be girly. And dont worry about your eyebrows.....the thick dark brows are coming back into fashion. I always thought thick dark brows were pretty. Still do. And I envy people that have dark thick brows. I think they are gorgeous and give faces character. Besides, do you want your eyebrows look like every other woman in a 25 mile radius that gets their eyebrows "done"?
My dd is pretty tomboyish, too, but you should see that girl when she is wearing a little eyeliner and a little lip gloss and using my dh's power tools....or mixing cornstarch and silicone to make molds for sheaths for her kitchen knives. She looks like Rosie the riveter became a Sexy little pin up girl.

    Thanks ladies! For your tips and the compliments. I guess if I could get the eyebrows under wrap I would feel less boyish. I'm gunna go with @luvlyssa's suggestion and tell them I want something inbetween. I hope they listen because everytime they say my eyebrows are ataright and need to be thin to have shape. I'm gunna go with waxing because it hurts less to just get it over with and because @grits makes it sound very appealing! Who doesn't want thinner and lighter hairs!? @undercoverbanana I think mine are a little too bushy. I want to keep them thick but without the fly aways. Btw your dd sounds like cool shit c;

Bushier eyebrows are the "in" look right now....but yours needs some cleaning up.  You can do it yourself like @AKimiB described, or just be very explicit in your instructions when you go for a wax.

Your makeup looks fine to me, but if you want a little more, start by experimenting with a few different colors or even types of eyeshadows (i.e., matte vs. sparkly vs. liquid etc).  And lipstick is fun to play with too.

For skincare, I love the philosophy brand products.  Here is a set a buy all the time:

@eapple Holy thin eyebrows!  That happens to me everytime I go and have mine done! I may as well shave them off and just draw them on with a pencil if that's the look I wanted.  I got them done a while back and they were super thin. My new trick, when they start to grow back in, I put nair face on a q tip and put it where the new eyebrows are coming in and make sure not to put it right under my brow so that my brows will thicken up again.  Btw..  I like your lack of make up.  It's natual looking and does not seem like you need to wear much.

By the way, you are beautiful!  I honestly think that the make up that you do is enough.  You never it to seem like you are wearing makeup.

My daughter got a few cool eye kits from Claires and they actually tell you what color to put on what part of the eye.

I think your makeup looks good, it's natural. That's always better than too much IMO that will just age you. I have 10 years on you and still break out when I'm PMSing! So unfair!

Fuller brows are back in style, yours have a nice shape, don't mess with them too much.

I have a few kits from TooFaced for my eyes...they rule! Each kit has 3 different looks, and instructions. I have the Naked Eye, Smoky Eye, and Natural at Night kits. I could never do a smoky eye before! Theres also a ton of tutorials on pinterest and YouTube if you don't feel like going out and buying a bunch of new makeup.
I was never a foundation girl, but my age is starting to show and I started using one of those BB creams... I really like it, it's light and makes my skin look pretty decent.

@eapple if I was that pretty I wouldn't even bother with makeup!  I'm a recent "girly-convert" -my mother is a tom boy and my dad has all brothers- I didn't learn how to put on eyeliner until last year lol (thank you youtube) but I'm finding it's a lot of fun to experiment. I signed up for Birchbox about a year ago and for $10 a month I get a box of (large) samples of beauty supplies that fit a profile I filled out. I have tried so many things I never would have. Hot pink lip gloss (looks great! who knew?), sparkly eyeliner, moisturizers and exfoliators, foundations etc. So my advice is to experiment! Get one of those "eye combo" eyeshadows that tell you on the back how to apply it and what color looks good with which eye color. Surf pinterest and look for things and styles that catch your eye. Don't feel like you can't do something different with your look just because you've never tried it before. :)

I have no advice for the eyebrows, because your picture looks exactly like my brows. But for the dandruff. I have it bad and I have very dark hair, so it's very noticeable. But like you my scalp gets immune to the shampoos. So for this winter I've started going the natural root. I have been using virgin coconut oil at night. It's solid but once you rub your hands together it turns oily. Smells wicked good and it works. Right in the cooking oil section at your grocers. So I just rub it into my scalp before bed and then in the mornin I've been using just a tea tree oil shampoo. I know you said you can only wash a couple of times a week do I would reccomend only putting oil on the night before a wash or else you'll be a grease ball.

I signed up for Birchbox just now! Four weeks for an invite?! Ridiculous. I'll probably forget all about it, and it'll languish in my FB "other" file for months before I remember to check it.

    But it looks super cool!!!

And I need eyebrow help too. I should just pay someone to do it once. Then I'll know how.

@Curious you're kidding! When I signed up it was still pretty new, so they were just happy to have members lol But I guess it's taken off. I would totally hold out for the 4 weeks- it's freaking awesome! Totally worth the $10. I got my mom a 3 month gift subscription and she stayed on and joined. It's like getting a pretty present just for you every month- and the brands they carry are great!

    I'll be stalking, too.

@eapple, you look naturally pretty, I think your make up look works well.  But it's fun to play around.  Think of it as a new craft project.  You could just pluck the stray hairs if they bother you (or Dan)

My sisters and I were at Mom and Dad's for dinner about a month ago, and I looked at my mom's nice dark eyebrows and my dad's overgrown (really overgrown & bushy) blonde & gray eyebrows and asked them what they do.  My parents were oblivious as to why I was asking, but my sisters got it right away. I sometimes (not often enough) pluck or veet stray hairs in between, middle sister rarely plucks a stray, and little sister does overall plucking weekly.

eapple, I didn't read all the other's comments yet, but if you live close to a Nordy's they carry Anastasia, which is a whole line dedicated to eyebrows/eyes.  Most of them also have estheticians there to wax eyebrows and teach you how to keep them up, how to use eyebrow pencil, etc.  It's only about $20 for the waxing.

I don't know if you can afford to treat yourself, but I love Anastasia.  I also love Bobbi Brown make up for good old "every day" simple beauty.  I know BB has her own website with tips and pics etc. and a great FB page, I'm  sure Anastasia does also.  I am admittedly a make up whore, probably because I, too was a bit of a tomboy and a late bloomer AND not very self-confident of my looks.  I've recently been going through all mine and have discovered BOXES full as I separate each into it's own..

It really just takes some practice, and the make up artists, especially at Bobbi Brown counters, are really great at helping you get an easy new look.  In that respect, I think "department store" make up is worth every penny, not to mention its usually better for your skin, last longer when you put it on, etc.

just pluck the stuff thats under you natural arch. thats what i do. and a little from the front of them. FUCK plucking the top and making them both symmetrical. i would have fucked up eyebrows if i tried that. lol (i stole your picture to show you lol) image

thats basically what i do but of course i have different shaped eye brows than you. as for your makeup, i think its fine! just add a cat eye for a little different sometimes, or some red lipstick and you are set.  and i use coconut oil for moisturizer when my skin gets SUPER dry. and i use Olay complete when my skin likes me.

I know there's a Canadian equivalent to Saks, Renfro? something like that, the nice thing about make up is that it's the same price regardless of where you buy it.

You have beautiful eyes, it wouldn't be hard to do make up/ brows...if you have an eyebrow or eyeliner pencil, you can do this to enhance the shape of your brows:  the golden ratio:

It might be available at sephora too, @eapple. I know they carry Bobbi Brown. I've seen lots of brow kits there too, I get mine waxed and they're pretty thick and dark so I don't use any of it, but I know they carry that sort of thing.

@eapple, You don't NEED much makeup. Your eyes look awesome in that photo!! If you want to experiment with eyeshadows, grab a kit like @demanda described. Also, if you have sensitive skin, a good alternative to a heavy foundation is a tinted moisturizer. You can also grab a translucent powder and light bronzer to give you healthy, but natural, glow. Also, every woman needs a neutral gloss. Mascara, gloss, and little color on your cheeks is the key.

If you want to do your eyebrows yourself, my mom was a cosmetologist and she taught me by showing me how to follow my natural arch with a cheap white eyeliner pencil. Then you pluck everything that is underneath those lines like @marionettevie described. You do need some good tweezers though!! That's key. Check out Tweezerman--they are the best or Sally Hansen (easier to find and pretty good!). Soon enough, you'll be good enough and confident enough to skip the eyeliner and just go for it. You can start by getting a GOOD wax that you're happy with and you can follow those lines and save a trip to the salon in the future. I have naturally thick eybrows also and I would look insane if they were too thinned out.

I'm way out of it. Sephora and Bobby brown, saks, and renfro are completely unfamiliar to me :s

@sammi I actually use very little foundation, just a dot and mix it with my ponds face cream to make a tinted lotion. I do this because I hate those lines women get at the sides of their faces from wearing foundation. Then I use cover girl minerals blush (shimmering sands) all over exept my nose. Its discontinued now, just like the quo mascara I love :(
I wouldn't mind going to get them waxed if they wouldn't remove almost all of my eyebrow :s I like the idea of drawing the curve I want and using that as a guideline.

Thx a lot ladies. I'm going to try a bunch of these tips. I'll post a pic of my eyebrows and a few eye make ups i try out :D

i found this the easiest way to make cat eyes. but i used paper. lol not tape, and i only used paper to make the bottom of it, she uses the tape on both the bottom and top.  but follow the line of your lower lashline on the bottom(does that make sense?? if not i will draw it for you)

@Sammie took the words right out of my mouth - you are naturally beautiful and don't need it at all, BUT, sometimes you'd like to look a little special, right? It picks you right up, and puts you in a better frame of mind. First, someone said body lotion:THIS. I put it on morning and night, and it instantly makes me feel better. I smell good, so I must look good, right? My dh LOVES this, especially at night after my hot, steamy tub. He says the smell comes wafting out of the bathroom all the way to the den, and it beckons him, lol. Second, after you get your brows fixed: @luvlyssa had a great idea, I would focus on one area of my face to highlight, and in your case, it would be your gorgeous eyes. They are so pretty, you don't need to do much. I would go to a makeup counter at a big department store and have them show you how to emphasize them. You don't need to do much, really, a little eyeliner and mascara will make them POP. A little blush and lip gloss, and smelling good, and you are ready to go!
