Living with Gratitude

I know, cheesy right?  Living with gratitude (taking a few moments out of the day to think about what I'm grateful for) has made a huge impact in my life.  "They" (mostly Zen Buddhist folk I read from and know) say that this practice reminds us of the positive things in our lives, helps us live in the moment, and takes us away from dark and destructive thinking.

So, maybe we could keep this thread going for a while to remind each other and ourselves about what we are grateful for.  Big or small, every single positive thought that we have ripples though us, I really do believe that.

So, today.. I'm grateful for my health.  After spending the past 2 weeks completely debilitated with a sinus infection, ear infections and general horrible gunk.. I'm just happy to have my energy back and no more snot running down my face or fits of coughing up a lung every breath I take.  Ah!  I never think when I'm feeling well "dang it's good not to have a cold".. but today, I am thinking of it and I'm thankful.

What are you grateful for today?

I am grateful for family. After this crazy whirlwind of a weekend, I'm grateful for a mother and sister who dropped everything to be by my side, my husband who was my rock, and my son who is the light of my life. I'm grateful for the rest of my family, extended and inlaws, who called and text me to remind me that they were with me as well.

I'm grateful for my SO, who willingly put up with my bitching today, because he knew I had a massive headache. He also made lunch for the kids, rubbed my shoulders, and made me hot chocolate. *happy sigh*

you read my mind :) I was going to start a gratitude list...

I try to (and fail) to do 10 things I'm grateful for on days where my attitude sucks...

    Today:

    1) diet coke

    2) chapstick

    3) fleece jackets

    4) a home (yay!)

    5) food in general

    6) bananas (specifically for my RLS)

    7) my cell phone

    8) hot clean water/toilets/showers/sinks

    9) shampoo/conditioner/face wash/clean pjs

    10) my good sm's!

Just keep swimming. Just keep swimming. Just keep swimming, swimming, swimming. What do we do? We swim, swim.

@luvlyssa, 10 things is AWESOME.. and I love your list :)

    I'd like to add:

Finding a bag of fresh made kettle corn in my pantry that I forgot I snagged at the pumpkin patch.  And for my Scaries Losin It and MyFitnessPal friends, YES I am tracking it :)

On this cold rainy day I'm thankful I can make a house payment to keep shelter for my kids....  since I know many can't even afford that.   And for foodstamps to make sure they are fed more than Top Rammen.  And a flexible job that lets me be a mom at the same time so I don't feel like I never get to see them while working full time.  I love the rain that makes you want to snuggle closer to those you love.....

I'm always misunderstood because the written word is the worst form of communication...you can't see me smiling =-)

I am thankful for so many things!

I have a nice home and a beautiful family to live in it with.

We have the things we need, and sometimes even the things we want.

I have both my parents still close by. And I love having them there.

I have a job that works for me as much as I work for it.

I have Scary Mommy. Without it, I'd be be lost.

I have made so many new friends here. People who are real and actually give a shit.

Ok, it's a new day and I'll take my moment of gratitude while I'm at work and not home with a cranky tired toddler.

I'm thankful for my job.  There I said it out loud.  I love working where I do, I love that it's part time, which means it's enough for me to feel like I'm doing something great, without taking away from being kick ass at home.  I love having adults to talk to, and we just got a fancy new coffee machine that even gives an option for "Milky Way" syrup added to each of the 25 coffee flavors.  Plus, by the time I get home, I miss Jameson so crazy that I'm OK with his grumpies and fits (knowing that he is going to to bed in a matter of 2 hours helps too..).

What's your gratitude today?  Any teeny tiny thing!

Grateful that I'm on my couch with my feet up finally...lol

My kids, they bring my more joy than I ever imagined possible.

Dh, who has kept up with dishes and laundry lately while my work schedule has been crazy

That I still have my grandmother who at 83 still watches my kids after school. (I sometimes tease her asking if she's watching them or if they're watching her...lol)

That dh and I are finally financially more comfortable and I no longer have to decide whether to pay a bill or put food on the table

And my beer on my end table. I really need it today!

I love this!! What a great idea!!

I've been feeling overwhelmed with gratitude lately--just feeling so blessed.

Grateful for my sweet toddler who is just so amazing and so perfect for us. I know she was made for us, ya know?

Grateful for this amazing blessing (baby #2!!) that is growing in my belly.

Grateful for my amazing spouse. He just so happens to be my best friend. He's not perfect, but I can't imagine being in this place with anyone else. He's perfect for ME.

Grateful for this community and all of you. Seriously, love you ALL!

This morning I am grateful that it snowed, but even more grateful that it didn't stick to the roads..in theory it *shouldn't* take me longer to get to work, but seriously here in Denver even though we get snow often, people always forget how to drive when the roads are barely even wet!!

I am grateful to have heat in my house.  I took several calls at work yesterday from people without electricity due to the financial burdens they are under, hopefully we're able to help them through the winter.

Totally superficial, but I'm also grateful for my ability to DVR my favorite shows..I'd never be able to watch any TV otherwise.

Today I am grateful the car started, the new wood stove works great, and I will have a few hours of peace after I get the kid off to school.

I am grateful for my family, our health and safety. For our home, it gets crazy and messy but it keeps us warm/cool/dry. My dh's job, which lets me be a SAHM. For Scary Mommy, where I don't have to explain *why* we choose for me to be a SAHM. The view from my kitchen window this time of year, seeing all the differently colored trees, being able to watch it "rain" leaves with my kids. For our kitty, my youngest "child".. this is great! It makes you realize you have it pretty good, no matter how much it seems otherwise some days. Thanks :)

In a tantrum style moment, I have a hard time being grateful, but I always remind myself later that I'm SO lucky these are the hardest things I'm dealing with with my child.  I have too many friends with children with life threatening illness, injuries, or special needs.  I'm so grateful to have healthy children I can't even believe how lucky I am to have them.

I am grateful for my family, our unique little unit is amazing :x

I am grateful I am feeling better (had a horrible gastro infection that caused some icky symptoms I will not share with you ;) )

I am grateful for my DF being such a strong support for me and trying so hard to make me laugh, I love him.

I am grateful for my two beautiful digs, they keep me warm when I am sick and are so loving in general that I would never trade them for new carpet, even though I have threatened that exact exchange.

I am grateful for my grandmother, this last year has been hard for us all and she is an amazing support for me and my kids.

I am grateful that my nephew is happy, healthy, knows that he is loved and that he is with us and not his parents, who are not in a place that they can care for him properly.

I am grateful for my neighbor/friend, she has been such a huge help and support to me and my family.

I am grateful for my friends, they are just awesome!

I am grateful for green tea helping my belly with the "ick".

I am grateful that today I am grateful and not doing the "woes me" crap, that is no way to live :D

Right now I am grateful that I had some inspiration to read up on Buddhist Principles. I am also grateful for the kids naptime, which begins in about 5 minutes. I am also grateful for the power of the warm sunshine we have today- my clothes will smell super lovely coming in off the line... =)

@dreemajic, this is probably one of my fave Buddhist pages, quick reading about the 4 noble truths and the Eightfold Path.  Here's a link:  http://www.thebigview.com/buddhism/eightfoldpath.html

I have to say I am grateful (how could I forget!) that my parents babysit my kid instead of someone else, and they do it in my home which means I don't have to take him anywhere.  Very thankful for that!

Today I am of course thankful that it's Friday.  I am thankful this time that we DIDNT get the 2-4 inches of snow we were supposed to get overnight, made my commute normal and I enjoyed a ton of "me" time because I got up earlier than everyone by about 3 hours, it was nice.

My friends. Especially  Minna, Elisa, Laura, Anniina, Kristiina & Maija.
They were there for me when I hit the bottom with my anxiety and OCD. Literally holding my hand. I'll never forget and it meant so much to me, still does. I know they are always there to help me.

My SO of 10 years. Just because. He's the best.

My son, Noa. There really aren't words to describe it all. He's the child that was meant for me/us. Perfect "mistake", surprise, what ever you wanna call it. Perfect. Annoying at times, yes. But that's his job, he's two. He looooves sauna. Really important ;)

My family. Family is family, in good and in bad... But they are my roots and the ones that made me what I am today.

Last but no least. Me! I'm doing good. I'm kicking the asses of anxiety and OCD. I am a really good mom. I'm not letting my OCD to tell me anything else anymore. I'm not perfect but who is? And if I were always perfect how would that make my son feel? Like mistakes are a catastrophe?

And I'm soooo thankful it's friday, 00,26 am here so actually Saturday. We've cleaned the house, I've been to sauna, I have clean sheets, red wine and tomorrow (technically today...) our friends are coming to our place and it's my birthday party! DS2 is going to my MIL.

OK.. Now, after two glasses of wine i'm ready to love you all. But really, I'm also grateful for SM <3
Finally figured out what's wrong with my brain:
On the left side there's nothing right & on the right side there's nothing left.

On days like today when I feel like I am failing at life I am grateful that I see a post like this. I am grateful that in my life there have been many angels in disguise who have helped me more than they will ever know.
Daily I am grateful that God saw fit to chose me as the mother for my 2 precious girls. I know that without them I would not be half of the woman I am today.

I am also grateful that writing these things down reminds me that I am stronger than I think I am.

Today I'm grateful for my 88 year old Grandpa, I call him Papa.  He's outlived his parents by 45ish years, has had multiple heart surgeries, strokes, etc..and just keeps on tickin'.  He's a treasure trove of history and wisdom, and pretty damn sassy.
