I'm a fan of hers on facebook, and I really do like her. She posted a link to one of the episodes of her show, and in the opening credits, she mentions all that she is (pioneer woman, rancher, cook, etc.) Her kids were the last thing she mentioned. Shouldn't she have started it with "I'm a mother, a cook, a blogger..." instead? She automatically lost points in my book for that.

I have no idea who you're talking about but I do think it's a little sad that her kids were LAST to be mentioned. I'm sure if she listed them first people would label her as a mom who defined herself by her kids? weird.

I've read her website a few times and she just seems a bit pretentious. Her recipes looks delicious and she has real talent with photography. Something about her attitude bugs me.

I think a lot of it too is that I'm jealous of her life, LOL. Hot husband, beautiful home, healthy, cute children, lives in the middle of nowhere.

I don't think motherhood has to be central to anyone's identity. I was a person before I had my daughter and I'll be a person after she grows up and leaves. Why should motherhood be first on my resumé? Sure, it's my most important job, but it's not who I am.

  • @fatchickonabike, I agree. People look so much into things...

Hmm--the way I look at it is that I too was once human (lol). Once I had kids, I didn't give up other things--I just put them on the back burner for a while. At this point in my life (3 kids under 7) motherhood IS first on my resume. I'm sure once the kids get older and are a little more self-sufficient, I'll probably edit my resume. :) For now though, they definitely come before everything (for me, anyway).

My 6 year old told me several weeks ago that I needed PajamaJeans because moms wear them. LOL

I like her. I like her blog, her recipes, her photos, etc. I also love that she lives on a working farm in the middle of nowhere with a pack of kids...that's my dream! However, my DH squashed some of my admiration for her, by stating that there is no way in hell that she does ALL of those things (books, blog, tv show, photography, housework, homeschool (I think?), etc. ) all by herself. I hadn't thought of that :/

@twitterstalker, I shouldn't have said 'squashed my admiration'. That was a poor choice of words because Moms are not superheroes and we NEED HELP sometimes especially if we are wearing that many hats! There are just not enough hours in a day to run a work at home empire, a farm, a house, a school, etc. It's just that I thought she DID do all those things herself because I'm a big fat optimist (missed the references about the sitters/nanny I guess) and when my realist DH pointed out the obvious, it popped my bubble just a bit;)

@twitterstalker, I'm a blog-o-holic, but I actually don't follow her blog unless something piques my interest that she posts on Facebook. I do love her recipes, but I tend to alter them a bit to make them a bit more waist friendly. :) Since time on my computer is limited, I have to follow the blogs I truly love and forgo the rest. Blog reading on my phone just isn't relaxing and enjoyable!

I'm sooo glad that your life doesn't suck anymore! :)

@Twittertsalker, my absolute favorite is Enjoying the Small Things. A close second is Dig This Chick. I also like blogs like A Pretty Cool Life that inspire you to re-purpose old items, organize, creat, DIY, etc. I've just recently started reading the '100 Days of Real Food' blog about a family who completely eliminates all processed food for 100 days. They chart their progress, share recipes, etc. Very inspiring! I like a little of everything, but mostly things that inspire me :)
