-
No way not right now mine are.disgusting.I will give on and have them done this weekend.
Lets, say this how much do your nails cost?
Mine 25 -
I find it so so sad that I have a folder on my computer specifically named "Nails"... LOLI used to wear acrylic tips, until my nail guy introduced me to the wonderful world of 'solar nails'... which are the exact same thing, except the nails are comprised of building layers of colored powder, and then overlayed with a gel that is hardened ("cured") under a UV lamp.I've seen some beautiful creations he's made with 3 or 4 colored powders layered, but most people just get the two--base color and tip color. This past summer, I discovered that by using this technique, but with one solid color, the nails look less fake, the color shines forever (there's no paint, so nothing to chip or peel), and basically are indestructible. Also, touch-ups (fill-ins) are imperceptible, no matter how long you go, or how many times you fill in instead of starting over.Ok, I'm done with my spiel LOL I promise I don't own any acrylic stock and I don't do nails for a living. But having my nails done always makes me feel good, and it's one of my guilty pleasures in life !Here are some of the highlights from my album...

-
For acrylic tips, it's $25, and fill-ins are $8For the solar, it's $45, and fill-ins are $12
-
Solar, eh? I got my nails done, the one and only time, for a wedding this past summer, and I got gel nails. Almost like solar, but instead of powders, it's layers and layers of 'gel'. Same deal though, they don't chip or peel. What I did find out, however, is that if you catch one hard enough, the whole nail...and your own nail down the cuticle, will rip off.See ya in another life, sister!
-
Ooh, pretty!
I tried a new manicure this summer, sounds similar to what you get done @Love, but it's not acrylics, just for your own nails - basically a manicure with I think a base coat, 2 coats of polish and then like a shellac over top and each coat gets baked under a UV lamp. I was really skeptical that it would last as long as she promised, but it really did, and it was still shiny, no chips or anything. I had it done for a wedding and didn't get it removed until almost a month later. My nails had grown before the manicure faded. I seriously, seriously recommend it - especially for anyone (like me!) who is prone to messing up manicures.
It was kinda pricy - $60 but that was a full-on manicure with all the bells and whistles.
-
@Four_Winds it DOES take some getting used to. I used to get the white French tips, but really really short, when I worked at the office. But I gradually got used to them, and just get em longer each time seems like LOL These (the black ones in the first picture) are pretty short. I have tiny nail beds, so anything very long on me looks ridiculous. And if I can't zip my pants or hold my eyeline, it's too damn long LOL@Curious WORD. If you break one of these bastards, you'll wish you hadn't. Fact.I've only broken one once or twice, but even then, the nail didn't break. It was the whole thing, like you said.It was WAY past time for a fill in, and they were massively grown out. I was playing football with the boys and snapped one. And then once I tripped and fell and snapped one. Both times had me gritting my teeth to keep from crying like a baby !
-
@MommyDearest my gf gets hers done like that ! her natural nails grow so pretty and long, that's all she needs to do ! I wish I could do that !We go to the same salon, usually at the same time LOL, so I know the price is the same there, $45, for either which way you do it. (Which I think is kind of unfair, but anyway...)
-
@Monstermom, last week, I was long overdue for a fill in, but kept putting it off. It's just so hard, with Spawn, to get any kind of primping done with no one to help watch him, and I decided I was just going to take them off, buff em up and paint them myself and rock the grunge nail look for a while.I made it two days before I was going nuts. I seriously feel worse than naked when my nails look like crap.
-
I miss being able to afford it.
-
My nails look like crap, but that's mostly because I HATE manicures!!! I usually just throw on a layer of hot pink and call it a day.
-
Krackle Polish ... thoughts? My daughter loves it, but I don't care for it myself. Looks good on her though....
-
@love I once did krackle black and white and its chipped way too fast.
-
I was NEVER one to get my nails done. I went to fl for my cousins wedding and my other cousin talked me into getting my nails done and my aunt payed for it. I was freaking HOOKED. I loved it loved the look loved the feeling of being pampered. So I started getting them done once a month. Found a great salon after a crappy one 15 for a fill in 25 for a full set. Now I can't allow myself to get my nails done. It's been over a year and I want them done so badly. But untill I'm back at work FT and know I can set aside 15-25 a month I won't get them done.
-
I like the mood changers :) reminds me of middle school .
-
I did the black base with red krackle, the red looked like a really dull orange after it dried and I didn't like it.I DO like the black krackle over most any base color, but once it dries, you HAVE to put a topcoat of clear over it, or it will peel like crazy !
-
@Breezy DO tell ! Haven't heard of that one !
-
I don't know if it will work if your nails are thick but its heat activated polish that changes color. Like red for lust and pink for love or blue for happy aqua for anger. I had some in middle school and just found some at clairs last weekend.
-
Oh I HAVE to get some ! For DD of course LOL
-
That's who i bought mine for too ;)
-
Am I the only one who's never had their nails done?! Lol! Mine grow pretty well without doing anything special to them, so I just even them out once in a while & call it good, hahaha
-
I don't like having my nails done, since I more or less cook for a living. Although it is funny to see cashiers with their fingertips bent way back trying to get change out of their drawers!See ya in another life, sister!
-
The ones that are so Freddy Kruger long that they curve ? Yeah, I don't get those. How do you zip your pants? Or hell--wipe your butt ?I can't pick change up off the floor, unless it sticks to the pad of my finger. It's kind of tricky replacing the head on my tongue ring too, with this length nails.
-
I hardly ever wear nail polish and I keep my fingernails so short you can hardly see the white. I can't stand for my nails to be long. I think they look so nice on other people like @love but not so much me.
Now my toes, I'd get a pedi every week if I could! I do it myself frequently but it's not the same.
-
You know, I was really hoping for more sharsies, because I love to see what people do with their nails...Maybe the morrow will bring me some pix LOL@Abila83 Right? I do my toes myself too, because pedi's are so dang expensive, but Oh how I LOVE a good spa pedi.... I got DH hooked on them too LOL He's a metro, I guess. We have a couple's spa day with pedi's about once every six months or so.We were GONNA do that Saturday... but in case yall missed it, we were all getting our hair did, and out of the blue, he and Linda start talking about hot wax.He ended up getting his back waxed.Yes, there's video. However, I am experiencing technical difficulties with my editing program, so it might be another day or two before it's ready.Anyway, he got his hair cut, I got mine colored, one of the boys got a cut, and DH got his whole back waxed, and that was $120. So we skipped the pedi's. I wasn't entirely happy about that, but if you ever get to see the video, you'll see why it was totally worth it LMFAO !
-
My nails look like shit after having the kids. I used to always have acrylic nails and get them done every 2 weeks. Ever since I realized I would be wiping baby asses for a while I had them removed. My cousin once told me a disgusting story about a mom that had poop under her really long fake nails....oh forget it it's too disgusting to tell.
Nowadays I usually get a regular manicure every month or so. I found this awesome place that does head/neck massages while your polish dries. It sucks tho because without the acrylic nails the polish only lasts about 2-3 days before it starts to chip.....so no I'm not going to show you my busted up nails lol
-
Go to gel....they will never chip.See ya in another life, sister!
-
Back when I worked in an office, my nails were great. Now, I'm at home more and doing a lot more with my hands, so I'm back into a period where they don't grow much. They're starting to a little because I've been using polish again (it keeps my nails from peeling), but they don't look good yet. I HATE to get my nails done. I hate how they file over the surface of the nail to "make it stick." I really think they do it so your own nails will be so thin you have to keep going back. Plus it makes my nails hurt really bad for days! I'm going to try to upload a pic from last year, but last time I tried to upload it didn't work.

deus ex machina -
@handtowelLady tell the gross story, please! I'm like a 10 year old boy when it comes to gross.
@ImWendy your natural nails are pretty. -
Oh, @ImWendy, I hear you on the filing! It still gives me the heebadabajeebies thinking about when my nail lady was filing on the side of my gel nails to give them that oval shape. It hurt! I was pretending to be all like good, and the lady was like Oh I love working with you, you're so relaxed! And in my head I'm thinking, you can stop now. How about now? Now? No? Fuck.See ya in another life, sister!
-
I love love krackle!!. So much fun. I have to keep my nails short, but they're still acrylic (shhhhhh don't tell). Right now sparkly black polish with spider webs, for Halloween. My nail tech is one of my best friends and she's a fantastic artist. I'm big on ridiculous patterns. Cheeta and tiger (in hot pinks and purple), flowers, snow flakes, flags, patterns, krackle. I rarely do a plain French, I express my personality in my nails. I've never tried to put pictures on here, so I will try later, when I'm on a computer, with some of the better stuff she did.
-
@MommaCop I KNEW there was a reason I like you :D
-
@ImWendy if my natural nails looked like that, I'd be in heaven !
-
@Curious I have a love/hate relationship with Chris. He's from Vietnam, and he's hilarious, but he does NOT give a damn for my discomfort LOL"Ohhhh dat hurt? I no feel nutting. You big baby !"I'm gonna slap the shit out of him one of these days ! His wife is very gentle and considerate, but she stays covered up with customers :/ and his art is really better. But if I'm having my set replaced, that means these taken off and more put on.... I will wait for her. Hours if need be.
-
Thanks. Thing about long natural nails is one will always break. Always. For me at least. Then slowly but surely, the others break off. At least with acrylic you know they're going to be the same length! I would slap the hell out of Chris, BTW.deus ex machina
-
I love nails. Every women should have their nails done!!!
-
@love has the magnetic polish hit the states yet?
You paint a layer of polish, and usually it's the lid of the polish contains a special magnet that distorts the nail and makes it look like waves of magnet have indicted the polish to swirl??
Hang in I'll have a look for it.... -
It looks so prreettyy !
-
I can get it on Amazon, someone in here posted it to my FB to show me LOL I watched a YouTube video od how it works, and it WAS pretty pretty pretty! I think I may have seen it in a store recently too, or it may have been the salon. But if I ever go back to doing my own nails, that will be one of the first things I buy to try! I may order some anyway and practice on DD.You know, I only lack a few classes finishing my degree in Accounting. (That's right, ME, I am good with numbers LOL) but I've been thinking a lot about being a nail tech. My gf has a salon, and she said she could keep me booked 7 days a week if I wanted to do it. But there are not cosm. schools that 'just' offer nail tech within a 100 miles of here, and I have ZERO interest in going through the whole cosmetology program just to do nails.
-
Go for it, with your artistry skills it'll be a winner :)
-
My poor hands are so beat up. I work at the post office, I am always breaking nails, getting paper cuts. crackle nail polish is my best friend..Nothing left to do but smile, smile, smile.. -Grateful Dead<3
-

I have been getting my nails done since I was 16. I love having fake nails.I see my nail lady once a month...because she is that good- my fill (or rebase) lasts a whole month. She is awesome. Ever seen the Bunny Swan skit from MadTv? Um yep. that's my nail lady! no joke. The next time I get my nails done, I'm uploading a picture. She does an awesome job and I get tons of compliments. I get pink and white with gel overlay. Its $28.00 once a month. My splurge.

have you guys heard of minx? Its stickers for your nails. It looks so cool! One of my really good friends works in LA and does celebrity nails. Her work is amazing.
