I'm just wondering for the moms of kids with ADD or ADHD, did you drink caffeine during your pregnancy?? No judgement, I just got to thinking about how caffeine is a stimulant that can cross into the placenta, therefore your baby would be exposed to it and how the medication needed for ADD/ADHD is a stimulant (which seems like it would make them more hyper but it actually calms them down).. I have a degree in biology so i'm just curious by nature, but I really got to thinking about this because I'm pregnant and not drinking caffeine and my sister said she drank coffee every day while she was pregnant (and her son has ADD).

Shockingly this doesn't have any responses.  Figured with all the other surveys and polls out there recently I would bring this one back from the dead as well.  Out of curiosities sake only, like the OP said.

My dd9 has adhd and I drank very little caffeine while I was pregnant. I don't care for coffee, just the very occasional Coke if we went out to eat or something. Wish it was that easy. ...sigh.....

I drank coffee, throughout my pregnancy, one a day, because the doctor (and several studies I researched myself) said caffeine in moderation, wasn't harmful. No ADD/ADHD here.

I had caffeine with both kids, and before i knew I was pregnant, there was one time I had drank too much. And please don't kick my ass for this, but the night before I had dd. I was extremely anxious and freaking out, I couldn't eat. I smoke two hits of pot.. My water broke at 6:30 the next morning. Both my babies are fine with no ADD or ADHD

The only possible way for me to have consumed any more caffeine at any given point in my grown up life would be through an IV. None of my children have any health or behavioral issues to date.

I drank caffeine during all 4 of mine. Only 1 has ADD (inattentive) & I drank less of it with him than the others. Interestingly enough, he is also the only one that I attempted to breast feed (for 2 weeks).

I drank a couple sodas a day after the first trimester with all 3 kids. 2 of them have ADHD.
If I'm not supposed to do it, how come I can?

No caffeinated coffee, tea or soda with either pregnancy. The youngest is quite hyperactive, but Dx w PDD-NOS rather than ADHD.

I drank one cup of coffee or 2 cups of tea a day during my pregnancies, no problems at all, actually my kids are super laid back!

I drank very little caffeine in sodas and no caffeinated coffee with both my kids. One of them has ADHD and the doctor seems to think it was caused by a severe depression during my pregnancy... I dealt with it with no meds of course, however it was a very difficult time.

Only one of mine has any issues and I drank caffeine with all of them.  I think its heredity more than anything.  I have attention issues and so does she.  We are the same person only 20 years apart.  I feel badly for her.  :(

My Bff never had caffeine and rarely drinks it even when she's not pregnant. Both her kids have add and OCD and are autistic. Now she's pregnant again and scared shitless because it seems each kids is worse than the first.

The ADD research doesn't point to anything consumed in pregnancy. Alcohol of course could do damage of various kinds. ADD is caused by heredity &/or head damage (even slight).

I was super paranoid so I very rarely had soda throughout my pregnancy. But that's the only caffeine I ever had. She was born perfectly healthy, just had a touch of jaundice and decided to pop out a month before she was due.

I consumed caffeine with all four of my pregnancies, and one of them is borderline ADHD. So, my "study" was inconclusive. : )

I drank caffiene with all 3 of my kids. Only one has ADHD, the other 2 are perfectly normal little monsters. I wouldn't think that caffeine would be a trigger for ADHD since stimulants DO calm them. Also I am the oldest of 9 kids. Moms drank coffee and coke like water. None of us ADHD. If that helps.

Drank expresso like it was going out of style through out my twins pregnancy. The movement was flipping amazing and would freak the hell out of dh. But the girl twin is laid back and artisy beautifully calm the boy has no adhd but is a redneck in the dirt all time type of boy

I limited coffee, but was a freak for Coke when I was pregnant with DS.

He can be a tad hyper-active at times, but other than, no ADHD or anything.

Drank soda & tea with both kids. Ds has adhd but dd does not. I probably drank more tea then anything else with dd & with ds hardly any soda (couldn't have anything sweet to eat or drink while pregnant with him, it always made me sick)

I have four kiddos.  #2 has ADHD.  I drank the same amount of caffeine with all of them (limited to 2 big sodas or iced teas a day).

My oldest has ADHD and I never drank coffee while pregnant.  I didn't drink coffee at all back then (didnt' start until second DD was 2).  No soda either.  We also never watched a lot of TV, only one tv in the house and didn't even have cable, so I also don't buy into the 'blame all the new diagnoses of ADHD on excessive TV watching" thing.  When I grew up we had TV's in every room, including the kitchen...lol.  But we also had MUCH more time IN school for recess/activity/running around at a young age and no homework in elementary & not the high stakes testing they have in place today (at least in my state).

No I drank no caffeine and so far 2 of 4 kids diagnosed with 2 others possibly. But ours is clearly hereditary, it runs on their father's side of the family. And I'm not just saying that because we're divorced lmao we knew it beforehand :)
