Prayer request for Grandpa

    Just got word that my grandpa -- I've only ever called him Buddy -- was in a 4-wheeler accident and is on his way to the hospital in an ambulance.  They're thinking broken ribs and leg.  His health is fragile anyway because he's battled cancer for the last few years.  Just hope this is not the beginning of the end.  Of course it would be this type of thing to take him and not that stupid cancer bullshit!!

    Just got word that they are life-lining him from one hospital to another an hour away.  They think that there are more broken bones than originally thought.  Ribs, leg, hip.

    femur that they will be doing surgery on tomorrow. He might have to
    have a tube down his throat if he continues to hurt through his lungs.
    No spleen or liver damage. His heart is doing better, but they're still
    concerned.

    Buddy is stable.  His femur is broken so close to his hip that he will have hip surgery today at noon.  His heart is doing better.  They're still concerned about the rib bone pieces near his heart.  He'll have surgery on to remove those in a few days depending on how he comes out of today's surgery.  My grandma is fried.

    I am the first grandchild.  I am the first granddaughter.  This is a man that loves deeply but shows no emotion the way the rest of us show it.  You know he loves you by his strong words and sharp eye.  You know he loves you by the way he makes you question your actions.  You know he loves you by the way he just grunts at you.  If he does end up leaving this earthly world because of this accident, it's much better than succumbing to the cancer he's been battling for almost 5 years.  His body is already sick from the chemo and radiation.

    Buddy came through the first surgery well enough.  The doctors said that he had the bone density of a 25 yr old.  Can't imagine how bad he would have been if he didn't.  They have had him strapped down since he got out of surgery because he keeps trying to pull his pic line out.

    His lung collapsed last night.  His lungs were full of phlegm and other stuff that was making his breathing even more difficult. He now is hooked up to the ventilator.  Has another surgery tomorrow morning for his ribs.  He has 3-8 ribs broken in at least two different places.  The two lower ribs are also broken.  They will use plates to adhere to the bones to hold them together.  His condition isn't very good.  They are anticipating a recovery, but a slow one with his lungs.

    He fell down a ravine 100-120ft.  The 4-wheeler rolled over the top of him landing on it's wheels.  His visor was cracked horizontally.  There is a 3" diameter mark on his helmet.  It's a good thing he was wearing it.  It was 40 minutes before his friends found him and another 40 minutes before the ambulance got there. 

    I don't care what you believe in or how you choose to "pray".  All I am asking is that you keep him and my grandmother there.

    Buddy has the doctors concerned because he has been unresponsive since yesterday.  He has a 101* fever that they are monitoring for infection.  The cat scan on his lungs looks like the rib surgery went well.  Because of his unresponsiveness they feel like there is something else wrong.  They will do a cat scan tomorrow to look for blood clots.  

    He has spinal fluid on his brain and they don't know why.  It could be why he's unresponsive.  They're hoping that decreasing his meds will help.  Grandma doesn't know about the fluid on the brain.  They're hoping that it goes away before they have to tell her.  We will have an idea of what the next step will be tomorrow morning.

    Please continue to keep all of them in your thoughts and prayers.

    My grandpa is still unresponsive.  They found blood clots in his lungs.  He still has the tube in to assist him in breathing.  It's not looking good.

    Bless your heart @Laurie!  Thank you so much for asking!

    He was just moved to a rehab facility yesterday.  He is in and out of knowing who he is and who others are.  He knows that he wants to go home and that he's in pain.  Walks to and from short distances.  He's making progress!  Still has a long way to go though.

    I was told a week ago to stop posting on FB by a family member, so I have stopped posting everywhere and responding to anyone that send me anything i.e. my mother.  I had decided last week to not go, but have since decided that I will.

    My grandpa passed away this morning....I fly out this Sunday.  I've known that for 2 weeks.  I just barely missed him.  I feel horrible.

    I love what you said about how he loves, and how he showed it. Remember that, please don't feel bad about not being there. I don't think he would want that.

    He sounds amazing!
    After all he went through with cancer, he kept going! Even going 4 wheeling! That's a man who knew how to enjoy life!

    Today's the funeral.  Yesterday was the viewing.  Yesterday came close to feeling like the end.  But today will probably take the cake.  Today we receive his ashes.  Today we all stand up in front of everybody and talk about what we remember.  It's going to be a tough one. 

    BUT!  It will be over.  This family drama bullshit is for the fucking loony bin!!
