So, to keep it short, my life has been one disaster after another for the past few years. I am beyond my breaking point, and need some inspiration, and some help getting back to living in the moment. Does anyone know any helpful books or websites? Ideally, therapy would be good, but I can't afford it right now.

small steps.. "living in the moment"..i know..cliche, but.. a cup of coffee/tea non rushed and fully enjoyed.. a walk by yourself breathing in the smell of the trees.. driving more slowly and letting yourself have extra time doing errands, see the people around you.. write down the things that pleased you in smallest measure at the end of the day, even if it's only one minute thing, and slowly build your list. you will find patterns of yourself in it when you look back on it.. pursue you..

This is gonna sound so silly but its what gets me through my days. There is a movie called Mask with Cher and its about her and her disfigured son but in this movie he wrote a poem and called it the sun on my face. See if you can find a clip on youtube. Its very simplistic but its just what life should be.

    I found it for you.

These things are good: ice cream and cake, a ride on a harley, seeing monkeys in the trees, the rain on my tongue, and the sun shining on my face. These things are a drag: dust in my hair, holes in my shoes, no money in my pocket, and the sun shining on my face.

    Mind over Mood.
It's cognitive behavioural Therapy, which simply states that we change the way we feel, by changing the way we think.
No, it's not 'Buck up" or "get over it" It's the exact opposite.
It's what they teach in meditation by staying in the moment.

This book, is a concrete workbook, that has simple exercises that you can do in your day to day life, instead of a huge novel, that when you're depressed you don't want to go through.

Mind Over Mood. Worth every penny. Or try the library.

    Thrive, Dont Simply Survive

Exercising helped my depression. Having a few moments alone, doing something - anything - for me has helped too. Hang in there!

There's a book called Simple Abundance: A Daybook of Comfort and Joy. It's great and helps you to remember what to be grateful for. Blessings!
