I just read this article and looked up some of the videos...the comments to some of these young kids broke my heart...

do you think things like this should be allowed?
do you think this could lead to long-term damage, suicides, ect?

Ack, I can see these doing more harm than good.  People are so mean, especially on the internet!
Kind of reminds me of that Hot or Not thing that was big a while back, but these kids seem so young!

Oh gosh, YouTube is the last place people should be looking for honest comments! The people who comment there can be ASSHOLES! This really worries me!!!

OMG!! I just looked at one, and this girl looks about 12 and one of the comments is "I'd fuck you" !! Holy shit!! Just like @Peace said some freak will come out and prey on their insecurities.

I had a boy look me in the face in 7th grade and say "You are so ugly"! Fucker! To this day, I remember that. It hurts and truth is I was cute in 7th grade, I mean since joining FB, I've had alot of guys tell me how they used to have crushes on me, etc.

Wow this is heartbreaking and just makes me want to go hug my girl and tell her how wonderful and beautiful she is. That poor girl I just want to grab her and say "YES you are lovely. Never let anyone tell you different!"

I can not watch any of these videos. I just can't. Just knowing they are out there, with kids desperately looking for approval from anybody...it breaks my heart.

Kids grow into their looks, some gorgeous babies grow up and are ugly and some ugly babies grow up and are models...Its way to young to ask that question.. plus there are so many things that make someone beautiful other than their face

    Ditto @chaosmom.

It does help to enlighten people this is happening though because hopefully it will garner the attention of an organization who will launch some sort of 'you're beautiful' campaign. Something to combat this. Maybe get the attention of YouTube. Although I'm not sure what they would/could do given their parameters.

@kmetz44, I thought YOU were asking if you're pretty when I read the title. I was going to say 'yes!! Duh!!' then tell you to stop fishing for compliments ;)

    And....yep! Lol

I finally posted a double thread on something!

I find it really hard to keep up with the message board these days, it moves so fast. Something that was on the first page in the morning can end up 5 pages down by the evening.
See ya in another life, sister!

On the Today show this morning they had specialists talking about this.  One of them said that it's a masochistic defense mechanism.  They internalize what strangers say and it further breaks down their self esteem.

I love modern technology and the internet.  However, this is one of the times I wish it didn't exist.

How would any mommies of younger girls react if you found out your daughter had a video up like this?

@kmetz44 Ry is only 4, but I think if I found a video like this of her I would feel like I failed her. I tell her every chance I get how beautiful she is.. Right now she is a conceited little thing ("they are stank cause they wanna be me."), but I hope it will help her to have high self esteem when she is older.
