Exercising!
-
Ok- so I haaaaaate exercising, to the point that I have not seen the inside of a gym for 5 years. I'm trying to get back into shape, so for the past 2 weeks I've been starting to powerwalk/jog in the mornings.
I'd love to hear what routines/habits have helpe people stick to working out, and welcome any scary mommy who wants to get healthy to join me on trying to do 30 minutes or 3 miles of walking/jogging every day!!!! -
I've found my stride with exercise videos at home, to supplement walking and jogging outside. Through trial and error, I've found a few favorites. (I used to be trapped, I mean, live in the Pacific NW for a few years, so outside wasn't an option most days or months, for that matter).Video Fitness and Collage Video have been invaluable in my search for quality exercise videos that I like. Working out has to be fun for me as I loathe the idea of joining a gym only to perch on an elliptical trainer or go on a treadmill to nowhere. Snooze! I've gone to specialty type small fitness studios for Pilates, Yoga, Fencing, Cardio Striptease, Ballet, etc., doing my best to mix it up.I love my Tracy Anderson and Marisa Tomei videos and am within 5 lbs. of pre-pregnancy weight. I also wear 1 lb. ankle weights when walking DD in her stroller and every little bit helps.Cheers!
-
I need people around to stick to the routine so I go to the gym classes, any of them, three times per week.I have gone almost for a year now and I feel strong and great. Good luck!
-
If you can afford it, hire a trainer. I am lucky enough to have one at work and when I don't show up, he calls me and makes me feel so guilty that I go. But I don't have to pay for him, so I am not sure how much one would cost.
My BFF lost a TON of weight on P90X. I did it with him a few times and it was a lot of fun. He got results VERY QUICKLY. But he did it every day and cut out booze and sweets.
My DH does kickboxing and he said it is 90% women in the class. He likes it because it is tough, but you can work at your own pace. He pays $10 per class.
My beach is still Sandy.... -
Lots of yoga and playing tag and soccer with the kiddos. And chasing them up and down the alley in their power wheels xD
-
I hate gyms, I lose motivation quick if I'm in there for more than an hour plus I get distracted by those buff guys making faces like they are either on the toilet or about to orgasm... I can't go in there. So that leaves me with working out at home. I've done the wii fit and I got bored with it fast. I'm doing Jillian Michaels 30 day shed and shred. The workouts are intense and non stop but there are 3 different levels which means 3 different workouts and it's intense BUT it only last 20 minutes. Quick and dirty. The dvd was less than $10, totally worth it.
-
I am not looking to lose any weight, more just get a little more toned and my goal is to run a 10k by September with my sister. I hate the gym simply because I dont do classes and and am broke as hell, but I love the idea of some videos.
When I go back to work full time next year maybe I could afford the trainer... -
@chocoholic I think since you want more to tone I really think the Jillian Michaels would be good for you. She does cardio, strength, and abs I haven't even been on it more than a couple weeks and I can see areas are toning up.
-
Great job, Choco!! I'm proud of you. You're freaking smokin' hot though, so not sure where this toning is supposed to happen. ;)
I've been trying to get into a groove myself. The countryside makes for a beautiful jog and the time flies by. My tot refuses the stroller though. Flat out refuses. So we are resigned to walking for now. The gym is out because I live in the sticks, so I'd have to commute to town each evening after Nate gets home. Not feasible. I guess it's time to get some exercise tapes for the Kinect. -
Shut up @sammie I could totally say the same for you ;) *rawr*
DD refused the stroller for awhile, but I forced the issue (which is rare) and I end every jog at the park so now she doesn't mind anymore.
@unforgiven I will totally look into those- although that lady bugs me- too damn happy about exercising. I think I need a drill Sargent.... -
I will do t30 min or 3 miles a day! Been working out again and I already walk at the very least 2mi per day :)
-
LOL @chocoholic I agree with you there. There are two other ladies working out with her smiling and all I can think about is "What the FUCK are you guys so damn happy about?!"
-
Uffda! I have the 2 zumba fitness cds for my wii and I hate exercise more than anyone I know...literally. Granted, the last week has sucked major ballz, but I just cannot seem to get motivated to even put the cd in the wii, let alone do anything with it. Plus...after 5 kids...I would have to wear a damn diaper to get thru a 10 minute routine. So...what is good for simple motivation. Knowing i need to lose weight is just not enough apparently.

I do a little something every day, on 3 day rotation of yoga, walking, and weights. I use the All-in yoga app on my phone; walk til I don't want to anymore; and have dumbbells that I do a bunch of different stuff with from my Gain Fitness app. I only use 2-5lbs though cuz I bulk up like a man if I use heavy weights. Back when I was in the Coast Guard I had some serious man arms, and I thought they were gross. Don't run anymore because "gasp" I'm a smoker, and I just can't run like I used to!
-
I know how you feel Megsue. I smoke TOO much lately and it is really having effects on me. Not a good thing. At least you are exercising taking care of yourself! Kudos to you!

@mamamelody- WHOO!!! My first partner in exercise crime!!! YEEHAW!!!@myinnergoddess- my motivation was thinking about wanting to be around as long as possible for my DD. My dad died suddenly when I was 17, and lately its really made me think about how much I want to watch all the adult milestones in her life. While exercising isn't magic, staying healthy really does extend lifespan, and thats what I'm going for....
-
@Chocoholic....well...that pretty much kicked me right square in the booty. lol. My DH fater died when he was 18 and in his first year of college. He is the youngest of 3 boys by 6 years. He has not hit the magic age of 47 yet (the age his father was when he died of CHF) and it has been a major milestone to each of them. The other two are there and healthy but Hubby frets about it and is the unhealthiest. He's overweight and sports quite the "beer gut" though there is much more involved than just beer. He too, wants to get more fit and lose weight but at least he still plays on the men's softball league each year and CAN handle it. I on the other hand really struggle not to die when I exercise. It's a process I know, to get to a healthy level of activity but I need to start. So...here's to you! I will put the cd in today and make myself dance!

@myinnergoddess...that is so creepy, my grandfather and uncle both died at 47, and my father started trying to live healthy, and made it to 54.YOU CAN DO IT!!!! Remember, every marathon starts with one step, it is a long journey for all of us, but I hope we can keep motivating each other. I just want to see my DD walk down the aisle with whomever she chooses, and hold a grandchild, and just BE there....
-
Awesome!!

@chocoholic, we could totally end each session at the park!! Great idea. Now to get her to ride in the jogger again. Bribery? ;)
-
@chocoholic do we post in this thread what we end up doing each day, or pm or text or how do ya wanna do this? It is soo much easier when you are in it with others! starting today?
-
Let's post here! I did my 3 miles today!!!!
3 miles or 30 minutes of exercise at least 3 times a week- or break it down to 15 minutes 6 days a week if that is easier to start.
Don't forget to start stretching!!!!! -
I joined an only womens fitness club with fantastic child care options. I always go in the morning when before I can start making excuses. I love the classes because they make me push myself harder (if the old lady beside me is doing it, damn rights I better do it too! Lol). I do zumba, a pilates/yoga/tai chi combo class, barbel class, and a class targeted to strengthening core (perfect for mommy tummy). Now if only I could eat better I would be set! For now it seems I'm exercising to maintain my weight while I eat fries all day lol.
-
@freedomlover Me too! Sometimes I think all my exercising is a wasted effort because of the way I eat. I LIVE for pizza and cheese sticks, and bread, and cheeseburgers, and lasagna, and, and, and...notice lettuce and carrots are not listed!!
-
@megsue well at least we aren't getting bigger with our eating habits lol.
-
So I did Tuesday/Wednesday/Thursday this week, and I am dying to go this morning but have to drop of DD and go to work, hoping to go this afternoon as I desperately need the endorphins before my family reunion tomorrow!!!
@mamamelody- how are you today?
@myinnergoddess, how's it going? -
Excercise??? What's that? No motivation...:¦:-•:*'""*:•.-:¦:-•** She who leaves a trail of glitter is never forgotten**•-:¦:-•:*'""*:• -:¦:-
-
@lauriebizz, when I come visit I'm taking your ass walking....to the cafe.
-
Yeah!! I have a plethera of excuses... I just need to get around all my 'issues' and find something I can do.:¦:-•:*'""*:•.-:¦:-•** She who leaves a trail of glitter is never forgotten**•-:¦:-•:*'""*:• -:¦:-
-
I went for a 20-minute walk this morning after I put DD on the bus. And I am officially giving up Coca-Cola. Sigh.

yeah!! @fatchickonabike... don't do diet either... just go for broke and give up soda:¦:-•:*'""*:•.-:¦:-•** She who leaves a trail of glitter is never forgotten**•-:¦:-•:*'""*:• -:¦:-
-
@lauriebizz, I fucking HATE diet soda. Besides, it's really no better for you than the regular kind. Instead of HFCS, you get cancer-causing aspartame, and it still makes you bloat and wrecks your teeth and messes up your appetite by fooling your body into thinking you're taking in calories when you're really not. Plus it tastes like somebody pissed in a bottle of regular soda. So, yeah, giving it up altogether.

After I get my coffee into me I'm headed for my walk! I'm really excited about it because the sun is out finally!!! Been rainy all week. 59 out too! Not sure how far I'll go, depends on how many "mountains" I want to climb. There are numerous large and steep hills within 5 miles of me.
-
@fatbitchonabike good luck! My mother lost about 25-30 lbs just by cutting out soda. It was the only change she made to her diet, and didn't add any exercise to her routine. You can do it!!!!
-
@Megsue, did you just call me fatbitchonabike? I am laughing my ass off right now.

Lol, I did, can you tell I was typing this while talking to my SIL on the phone. OMG I am dying right now =)) So sorry, shes the fat BITCH, not you. Still laughing...soooo sorry
-
@Megsue, no problem, that was my chuckle for the day!

bahaha that was funny @megsue and @fatCHICKonabike ;) I'm still sore from my barbell class on wednesday.... but I need to do something. I think I will head to the gym and just do some light cardio and stretching.
-
@chocoholic
Well yesterday I walked 2 miles and did a 15 min workout of sit ups, leg lifts, weights and jumping jacks. raining today so ill be exercising indoors only -
That's what I get for multitasking! Oh well. I usually charge for such entertainment, but this one's on the house!

Hey ladies- how is everyone doing?!
I did my jogging/walking today after taken the weekend off, and am hoping to do 4 days this week! -
Thanks @Four_Winds! I am joining in on this one! Kids are going down for a nap in 20 minutes and I am going to exercise. I will post after!
-
I've done so well lately....but its vacation week and I am SO sore from this weekend anyway and I fell in a hole on Friday, running. A big hole, a visible hole, I'm a blonde.
I wish I could find an antigravity yoga class around here....no luck.:( -
Woo hoo! Just finished an old core secrets traing camp dvd!
-
Ugh. I either have a good eating day or a good exercise day. Never both on the same day. If I try really hard, I guess I could take the animal for a long walk. But the temp spiked to almost 90 today. Maybe after the sun goes down.
-
Start back at kickboxing tonight.. Sooo excited. Then crossfit training at the gym Wednesday.. Back on the wagon. Thanks ladies for the motivationThere are some people who live in a dream world, and there are some who face reality; and then there are those who turn one into the other.
