For the THIRD year in a row, #3 has lice. Her twin #2 NEVER gets them. #1 had them twice. Both times she got them from birthday parties at these fun zones joints with the ball pits & jumpy castles.
I had a manager from one of theses joints come into my office & I point blank asked her how often the cleaned/disinfected/etc the play areas including the ball pits....She said Weeelllllll.....we are supposed to every week, but we stretch it out ot about 6 weeks unless a kid has an accident in the pit. I was PISSED OFF.
#3 has caught them at school.
I am so paranoid about them that every time my poor kids have an itch I drag them outside into the sunlight and start picking like a mother monkey.
So today, I am home from work...losing money...disinfecting my house, washing everything in sight.....and taking poor #3 outside into the sun to pick at her head......
Rid does not work neither does Nix. When #1 had them, I was given a rx called lindaine, but it's off the market now. I am having success with Quick Nits this time. I also bout Lice Sheild shampoo and leave in spray. Tea tree shampoo & conditioner also keeps them away I have found, but Momma got lazy this year and BLAM here they are.
I know they come to clean hair, but they make me feel dirty & like a bad mom!!!!
AHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!

Wow. Please don't think that makes your kid's 'dirty' in anyway. Lice actually prefer clean heads. It's easier to move around. There are a few things you can do.
1. Powdered Sugar: This one's kinda fun. If you suspect lice, and can catch them before they lay eggs, try covering the kids in powdered sugar. The sugar suffocates those nasty buggies and you should be able to just rinse them out! Plus, it's just plain fun!2. Tea Tree Oil/Tea Tree Shampoo: This is a MUST in our house. My DS used to get lice all the time from school and friends. I had a friend tell me to use the oil in his hair once a week and POOF! head lice are no longer a problem. For some reason or another, lice HATE the smell and the texture of the oil. So when school starts, we change shampoos and add a little oil to our hair.3. Baby oil: My grandmother used this on me when I was little. Again, Lice HATE oils because they can't grip anything or secure their egg sacks. that may be why lizzwizzy's kids don't get head lice.
4. Peanut Butter: Ahhhhhh, the cure all household MUST have. From gum in the hair to pesky little eggs, peanut butter is amazing. If you need to use NIX or anything like that, try peanut butter first. The gooey, sticky substance suffocates and destroys the bugs and holds onto the nits allowing the comb to grab them with ease. PLUS, the oil from the peanut butter works as a deterrent. Of course, if there's a nut allergy, DO NOT TRY THIS. Use the NIX instead.I hope this helped. I don't have any little girls, but I do have a son that HATES being bald. Especially in the winter, and I can't say that I blame him. These tricks have worked for my friends' kids too. I hope they work for you. -
hey, i wondered where you have been !
get some flea combs at walmart, and comb everyday--i think there's 2 threads full of lice discussions.

I hope to NEVER have to deal with lice in my daughters hair again. She has super spiral curly thick hair. it took me 8 hours to pass that comb through and in the end i had to cut 4 inches off.

After fighting dd's lice infestation since June, and after 2 OTC and 2 prescriptions, the pediatrician finally prescribed Natroba. OMG...it was a miracle. Supposedly you don't even have to do the nitpicking/cleaning with this stuff, but I did anyway. Almost 4 weeks later and still no sign of those pesky things. The bad thing is...if it's not covered by insurance, Natroba costs many hundreds of dollars. If I'm not supposed to do it, how come I can?

My mother used to treat my head with mayo. Helps keep them out after you treat the head. Lice perfer clean heads to dirty. You are not a bad mother and this does not make the kids dirty. EVEN SUPER STARS KIDS GET LICE! Tea tree oil works WONDERS! I hope this passes and never comes back. As I child I always got lice... always and noone eles in my family would. there was one time I had it soooo bad I shook my hands though my head over a sink and the bugs would just fall out... GROSS I know. I dont know how it got that bad but it happend to even the cleanest people! Good luck!

I had them twice as a kid. Caught them from school. Last year, I caught them! I was 34 years old, never try on hats in a store, nothing like that. The only thing I could figure was that I got them from a upholstered chair at the library. My hubby was out of town, my kids were 9 & 11 and I have very long & thick hair. I would sit on my bathroom floor, trying to nit comb my own hair while crying. It was so frustrating. Then, this year, my kids got them for the very FIRST time, while we were having water issues in our neighborhood. We didn't have water from 8-5 for 3 days. Do you know how hard it is to nit comb hair in artificial lighting?! You can't see anything. Heck, about 5 years ago, my Grams caught them! Bless her, she found out about it when she went to get her hair cut! There is no shame in "catching" lice. Although, as I say that, I still felt guilty, disgusted and embarrassed when we caught them. Good luck. It's no fun, but "this too shall pass."

My DD has had them twice and it was HORRIBLE both times. She had very long, thick, wavy hair and combing it out with those teeny tiny combs took HOURS. I was so tired I cried. Nothing seemed to work and her Doctor would not give her anything prescription for fear of the harsh chemicals. I finally used twice the recommended amount of either Rid or Nix (I can't even remember) and that finally did the trick. Definitely not fun but something we won't ever forget!

We did the lice battle for 2 years! I tried everything on my poor DD, ds just shaved his head each time, nothing worked!! Until I started using a straightener on her hair every day for two weeks, every other day for another 2. The heat kills them, no chemicals, no picking! I figured the reason I never got them was because I straighten my hair every day, and it must kill them. We have not had a problem in years. Good luck!

Oh lice... I too been having an annoying time with them... I'm pretty sure my 7 year old gets it from hid friend.
I discussed it with his mother but she says she handled the problem, but obviously not.. I tried apple cider vinegar.. Seemed to work, I just do not like using harsh chemicals on my childrens heads, especially on my 2 year old.. Oh yeah she caught it too. Soo frustrating.. I need something permanent, maybe i'll try the docs office, somethings gotta give, or the next step is to not let my son be around his friend who can't seem to get rid of it..

let them dye their hair, works every time

I got lice twice as an adult managing a popular children's retailer. No family nearby other than my husband and long hair, I thought, He's never going to clear my hair of nits. Genius hits--hair straightener. My ceramic hair straightener goes to temps over 100. Trust me, they killed anything remaining in my hair--no multiple shampoos and non-stop scalp agonizing hair combs and weeks of agony necessary.

Coconut shampoo and conditioner. Google it. It seriously works wonders. Coconut shampoo will smother and get rid of the lice as well as keep them away. I used the cheap, Suave stuff and it worked amazingly.

My daughter suffered with lice until I found a product called the "Robi-Comb". I ran it through her hair every night, plus it came with a spray that I sprayed on her hair every morning. It was called LiceGuard. It has the oil from chrysanthemum flower in it. It smells nice. Lice apparently doesn't like chrysanthemums. My daughter never had lice again. I bought my at CVS drug stores. I completely understand the frustration. Good luck.

OMG my twin girls got lice from a friends kid. they were two at the time. i couldnt use chemicals on them. i tried everything!! i would think i got rid of the then they would pop back up. took 2 months and 4 dr visits!!!!!!!!!!!! i threw out all there toys and blankets. hadto just brush them out. hope it NEVER NEVER happens again!!!

BTW....now im itching my head!

I am going to flat iron her hair today. I have never caught them praise JESUS....but that's probably because I have so many chemicals in my hair....you know...gotta cover the natural plaitnum highlights I have going on :)
Tea Tree shampoo is a usual in my house, but like I said...I got lazy this year.....Going to get some more this afternoon, but in the meantime, I do have the Lice Guard sampoo & eave in spray. Hair cuts are happening tomorrow.
Luckily # has wavy fine hair that is already in a shoulder length bob.....to be trimmed up. #2 however has very long very THICK hair. Good news is hers is straight & will be cut into a stacked asymetrical bob.
Shorter hair is so much easier when it comes to lice. When #1 had them (she is now 18) at about age 5 or so..... with her very thick - very long - very curly hair .....I had to cut about 15 inches off jsut to make it manageable....and this is after picking nits for 4 hours.
I got all of the nits (at least I HOPE I did) and treated both girls. Did not think of the flat iron....next will be the robi-comb.
Jeez......if I had boys, their heads would have been shaved last night!!!
Thanks y'all!!!!!
