I say let her have them (and for heaven's sake get yourself some too woman!), I had some "sexy" bra and panty sets when I was 14. It just made me feel good about myself. Showing them to anyone else (Other than my girl friends.) wasn't even on my mind. It just made feel better about my body. Girls that age are so critical of themselves. If a great fitting bra and some cute undies make her feel better about herself, I say let her go for it. Not all of their stuff is grown up sexy. They have some cute cotton bras and panties, and also some satiny ones that pretty as opposed to sexy, that are sporty, fun, and age appropriate for a girl that age. Also, let them measure her for a bra, it will help her get used to getting the size that fits her best. My circulation used to get cut off by bras that sucked.

My dad told me (I was blushing like nuts, of course) when I was a teenager, that I should buy 'pretty underwear' for myself, because it would make me feel better about myself, even though no one else should see them. I'd say go for it....yeah it's a risk, but as long as you've had 'the talk' and everything else is on the table...why not?See ya in another life, sister!

Cool, thanks! I was sure I was overreacting, as I tend to do!! I am 100% sure she isn't thinking about being sexual, yet. I remember changing clothes for gym class, when I was a teenager. The pretty girls always seemed to have bra/panty matching sets. I had plain white panties and bras....lol! It just took me by surprise that she asked to go there.

I can't wait for my DD to get to the age when I can take her shopping for the panties and bras that *SHE* wants....I didn't start picking my own panties and bras until I was an adult and I hated all the grannie panties and cone bras my mom picked for me. Panties are personal, they should be things that are comfy and nice.I solemnly swear that I will not make my daughter suffer through grannie panties.

My daughter wishes she were "more gifted" up top (she's 16) and is happy I convinced her to get some VS bras.Now, if only they had VS: The mommy edition. Sigh. I miss my VS-wearing days. Every cheap bra I ever buy is just that, cheap. I remember buying one from tj max and the underwire fell out within A WEEK, then I went to Walmart and bought one.....it quickly lost its shape. Why not spring for a more expansive bra that is nice, pretty, makes you feel good, and is great quality?

Gosh. When I was about 14-18 I dressed like a cowgirl. I wore Rockies and bareback wranglers. (no back pockets on either) I was always self conscious about panty lines so I finally got enough courage to ask my mom if I could by some thongs. She gave me the evil eye and said that I had better not be wearing them to show off for my boyfriend. But she did let me buy them.

I buy my dd17 her stuff at La Senza as well. If you have to suffer through wearing a bra from since 10 yrs old - you might as well have pretty stuff to wear!!Her generation wears very wild multi colored bras and doesn't mind them showing under shirts - drives me nuts as I am from the generation were your bra was to never show - not even the straps!!If you watch the sales, you can get the name brand stuff for just about the same as the Walmart/target prices, which makes name brand easier to justify.

I say go for it. Everyone wants something cute and feminine to make themselves feel good. And I feel you on the locker room underwear comparisons. But I lucked out in that regard, I wore the same size as my mom in middle school ( 36C ) so I would just steal hers LOL. But my DD10 is already wanting cute panties and bras, nothing sexy,just cute and fun. So I go here, age appropriate and it makes her feel pretty for those with tweens who are still too young for VS but want something pretty.

I remember this awesome midnight blue satin bra my mom let me pick out at WalMart when I was 14. I loved it and I felt so pretty wearing it. My stepdad made a comment about why get it a "cool color" if no one was go g to see it....my mom replied with the same sentiment as many of you mentioned. No one else might have known I had such a pretty bra on, but I did and that was all that mattered.
When I go bra shopping now I always get at least one pretty/sexy/funky one for my own personal shits and giggles. And DH likes them, too. LOLI'm as sexy as a burp mid-kiss. Watch out! -

@Messy_Hair_Mommy - I buy DD cheap bras because 1) she's changing bra sizes still and $40 + bras are not cool 2) she wants a bunch of different bras - not one good one and 3) because she throws them into the laundry so they are getting washed / dry in the machines every time she wears it. Good enough reason? I don't know of you have a teen - but she doesn't get what I do because she doesn't take care of things.
And, I've had some bad bras from there, most of fine - depends. My every day bras are nice nd expensive. My fun bras just need to briefly look good. -
Oh. And making my 14 year old feel sexy? Totally not on my list of shit to do.

DD10 started wearing bras almost a year ago. (If you've seen many pictures of me, you know why lol) And she's always picked out her own. Unless I run up on some in her size on sale. But I figure, she's the one wearing it, so she may as well have what she wants. I never got colored undies until I was almost 16! So embarrassing at sleepovers!

My daughter's VS panted are cotton, full back some are boy shorts, and none say sexy or anything. They have the pink dog, the word love, etc. The Pink line isn't all sexy.

I understand@momx4's concerns given that the bio mom seems to be teaching her all the wrong things.I wasn't doing the pretty bras and underwear for my girl in the mindset to make her"sexy". The ones purchased are more in the "Cute" catagory.It is such a difficult time in a young girls life - especially when you start to develop early - that we all remember going through. If having pretty colored bras - pink, blue, striped, polka dotted - with the support still needed - not push-up not see through nipples or anything skanky - makes my daughter accept the transition easier, then I don't see the harm.Of course in the context of everything else I have modeled and taught her about her sexuality and boys - if she has her head screwed on straight, then pretty underwear are not going to matter, nor would limiting her to granny panties and cone shaped bras if she is bound and determined to have sex(teenagers still got pregnant when that was all that was available)I think if any girl feels pretty,smart, strong, and self-confident - then she is more likely to have the fortitide to wait despite being pressured no matter what her underwear look like!

Hmmmm I think I was 12 the first time I got a vs bra? Around there. I had VERY large breast and I got some there, some at Sears or jcpenny. I don't remember my mom ever questioning the color. My training bras weren't even white! They were pink and polka dotted and black with stripes. I still don't think I own a white bra? Maybe one? Somewhere. Not sure.
I wore thongs from 14 on. Skinny jeans and leggings were just coming in and I hated panty lines. I don't remember it being about being sexy.....nor do I remember my parents caring. Before they bought them I was just not wearing any at all and they figured that was better than none. I still didn't have sex till I was nearly a senior in high school.....
I don't think if a girl has her head on straight, underwear is going to make a difference. Actually....I dont think it will either way. If she's going to have sex, she's going to do it whether he panties have lace on them or not. -

My dd (almost 3) wears cute underwear from Children's Place. Pink and black and white stripes or polka dots. I will probably let her pick her underwear from whatever age she shows interest. I will draw the line at push-up bras and anything satin or lace. Other than that... I love cute underthings annd I think she should have cute underthings too. Oh, and I don't think underwear would have an impact on their sexual activity... Either they want to do it or not. I kind of giggled at the thought of a girl getting preggo from wearing sexy undies.

I just took my dsd9 first bra shopping. It was impromptu bc when we were walking into the mall I could see little buds! We got one pretty just simple white bra and a cute matching set with peace signs. She thought she was big stuff!
And while I'm on the topic what's up with justice and other child stores having padded bras?!?!? Like, super padded.

Ok this should now be called DD got VS panties! lol!! Just took her and spent $50 on panties. She picked out some really cute ones. She got all full coverage ones, some boyshorts and some bikini style. She had a friend with her and they had a lot of giggles about the thongs and such.
I'm going back when I have some more money to get me some nice bras and panties. I was surprised to see that the bras were pretty decently priced, 2 for $49 or somthing like that. I have spent $20 on a bra from walmart only to have it fall apart after a few washes.

Oddly enough I bought my DD10 a VS bra because it was taupe. I couldn't find one anywhere else that could be worn under a white t shirt and braless was not an option. I find tween bras at Walmart and shopko to be too patterned to wear under her favorite light colored shirts.
I only wear VS bras but that is because it is the only store in my area that carries my unusual size.
