How important is faith in your child(ren)'s life/lives? What role does it play in your family's everyday life?
-
If we did not have our faith we would be lost. DS is constantly ( at least once evert two days or so) talking about his sister and what she is doing in heaven. The promise that we will all be together again someday keeps me from well going insane. I pray every day ( silently ) and often about / for people on here. If I post any hugs or thinking about you posts it more than likely means I'm praying. I don't always say that because I don't know the religious preferences of the people and I do not want to offend." Wibbly wobbly timey wimey ......." The Doctor

@momofdbb Thank you for your comment. I appreciate your thoughts and prayers. I understand your faith that your dd is up in Heaven, looking down on you, and that you will see her again someday. That hope is also important to me, not for my child, but for all my loved ones who have passed away.
-
Yep, same here, it's a very important part of our lives. When dd's older, she can make her own choice, but for now it's up to me. She's already had to deal with the death of my grandmother for whom she was named, so even though she didn't see or talk to her often, she knows who she is, and it's a comfort for her to know that "she's in heaven with Jesus and Papa."
I, too, pray often.
Bite me, cupcake! -
@Vela: it will come to you in it's own time. When I moved to AZ, I went to at least 4 different parishes before I found one I liked and felt comfortable with the other parisheners.Bite me, cupcake!
-
@Vela For some people, faith is found in a "higher" or "greater" "being". For others, faith is found within themselves and their relationships with loved ones, family, and friends. I find faith in my dh and our dd that I can "do this" daily for them.
-
@HaileysMom I have many people I will see again , she is just the first I want to see." Wibbly wobbly timey wimey ......." The Doctor

@momofdbb I think most people hold some sort of faith/hope that they will see all their loved ones again. I believe that once a person dies, their spirit leaves their body, and they are always with us.
-
@BellaBefana My dd is 18 months old. She's been to 1 funeral with me. We walked past the open casket after the service. Hailey looked down at the body of my adopted grandma and said "NiNi". To her, grandma was just sleeping. I think that at this age it's important that she remembers grandma's life and not her death.
-
I believe she is with us now too just when we get to heaven we will be able to hug her and talk with her." Wibbly wobbly timey wimey ......." The Doctor

When the cousins came to DDs funeral, the little girl, patted DD o her head smoothed her hair down and said " it's ok now princess, it's all going to be ok now. " she was 3 when she said that." Wibbly wobbly timey wimey ......." The Doctor

@momofdbb It is powerful to have faith that your loved ones are not lost and gone forever. All I have to say is "Wow!" about the 3 year old cousin. I believe that children have the greatest faith of all.
-
@BellaBefana To hopefully prevent future crying episodes, lets shift topics to prayer. What/who do you pray about/for on a regular basis? How often do you pray?
-
Pretty much anything/everything...with the exception of patience, LOL, I've heard you get many tests when you pray for patience, and I have a 3 yo, she tests me regularly!
As a Catholic, I pray for all my loved ones who've gone before me...
Bite me, cupcake! -
@BellaBefana Do you pray for the "little things" like when you lose your keys, cell phone, etc.?
-
Good St. Anthony come around, something's lost and can't be found...please help me find....
I'm Catholic I pray for EVERYTHING!
Bite me, cupcake! -
@BellaBefana sorry about that ( I was crying too)
@HaileysMom I have prayed for small things. " Lord please help me find my keys/purse/ child' shoe before I scream!!!' thank you! " and then when I find them a quick "thank you , Jesus ! Not in snarky way !"" Wibbly wobbly timey wimey ......." The Doctor

@momofdbb, no worries, I know it's getting close. >:D<Bite me, cupcake!
-
@BellaBefana LOL. I'll have to remember that one. Not Catholic, but I'm always losing something.
So your religion/denomination is very important to you. I grew up Nazarene, but I've also tried Baptist and non-denominational churches. Currently I follow my own faith at home an share it with my dd myself. -
I pray every night and sometimes during the day for things like the health and safety of my children etc. My dh is on his 3rd business trip in three weeks, so I pray for his safety. My parents were raised extremely religious. Where it was rammed down your throat. You went to church even if you were dying. Because of that my parents gave us a foundation of what they believe (Mom was Baptist, My dad was raised Catholic) and we went to Sunday school at a Baptist church, but when we got older we were allowed to make the choice as to continue going every sunday. I went to Bible camp every summer. The one I went to was only just down the road from my Grandmother's farm and my mom went there when she was a kid. I loved it!!! It did have chapel in the morning and prayers before meals but it was about having a fun, wholesome time as a child. We thanked God for our blessings and talked about His love for us, but no hellfire and brimstone! We swam every day, rode horses, did arts and crafts, water skiied and all of the other fun activities of summer camp, we just talked about God too. I did the same thing with my kids that my parents did. I gave them a religious foundation (my dd6 goes to youth group and loves it) and we go to church at Christmas time. But as they get older I respect their personal decisions and answer any questions they have about mine and why I believe what I do. I do believe in God but not always organized religion persay. I think that God loves all of his children and made us all in His image and we have no right to spread hate, homophobia or racism in His name. :)
-
I personally truly believe in the power of prayer. I don't think the answer is always yes, but I have prayed for things and I know that God hears me. For years I prayed to find a decent husband and be happy because of my crappy first marriage and it happened! It took a while but I don't ever feel that God ignored me or wasn't listening. Sometimes I pray just as a way to calm down and destress!
-
I think prayers are always answered, just not always in the way we want or think...the biggest answer I've received is dd...her "becoming" has been explained elsewhere, but it took nearly 20 years for that one to get answered!Bite me, cupcake!
-
Some people are offended by my views but I'll try to explain.
First, I DO NOT judge anyone for what they believe and do not expect anyone to understand or believe in what I believe.
Here's why some are offended: I do not believe in heaven and hell, God, Jesus, Satan, Allah etc..
I believe our spirits go to the 'spirit world' or 'astral plane' when we die. I believe our souls come back to live again. I believe we all have spirit guides and psychic abilities that we just don't know how to use.
And I believe that once we complete all of our lessons and reach the highest level of consciousness (enlightenment) that we then become spirit guides ourselves.
I believe that our souls find each other on purpose. You know when you meet someone and you just FEEL it, like a click?? (Ive called many of you my soulmates, this is what I mean!)
I meditate, which is basically praying, except I'm using my own energy from within (you've got it to!! We all do!!) instead of asking a higher power for forgiveness/acceptance/assistance.
If anyone is interested in more about this stuff you guys can pm me :) -
@Scholarmom4 Amen!
-
@batti thank you for sharing. I think to some degree all our beliefs are similar. We all have beliefs in some power, whether it's within ourself or other beings or prophets.
-
I disagree with the "Love the sinner, but hate the sin" mentality. It is one of my biggest issues with organized religion.
What is your opinion? -
@batti you did not offend me. We have said that my DS (12) and DD had " old souls" and they say the same thung about their cousin. They said it was almost like she knew what was going on at the funeral when she told her (my DD) it would be ok now. Her mom was holding her and said the way she said it was like she had been there before and was letting her in on a secret or something . It's hard to explain . I often look for signs from her, one I bellieve is the birds. My grandmother loves birds, but no matter what she put out ,no birds. The day of DDs funeral she came home and there were birds on her feeder. They have kept coming back every day since, and even a bunny rabbit ! I think she sent them to us.Sorry for the offshoot." @momofdbb I also believe in signs. The man who was my pastor for 18 years of my life passed away on Father's Day, an I got married the following January. It barely flurried snow on my wedding day, and we all say that it was Pastor Lowe sending us his blessing from Heaven.
-
@Batti: I reference the movie The Seventh Sign...absolutely believe souls are "reborn."Bite me, cupcake!
-
I prayed daily for babies when I was married to my XH. We couldn't get pregnant. We always wanted two boys. After about 3 years I gave up, divorce followed and I met my new DH. I wasn't praying for my two boys anymore but I guess God knew the timing was right and waa-laa twin boys! I had to laugh because I never specifically prayed for two boys at separate times. I think God has a sense of humor. I also thank him for some unanswered prayers!
-
@TorturedbyTWINS I also believe in unanswered prayers and that God has a sense of humor. My mom would tell you that it was God's will for you to have kids with your current dh instead of your xh, and I agree.
-
My faith is a huge part of my life and the lives of my family. I had a very proud mommy moment today when my dd8 told me she wanted to be part of the worship team when she grew up. We go to 9am service and never have the 'I don't wanna go's '
Praying is something I do continually throughout the day.... Thanking him for every blessing throughout the day, asking for forgiveness when needed and blessing and protection when I need those too.
We also pray together before school, at dinner and bedtime as a family. I love that my ds2 can pray 'thank you my Jesus, thank you Lord' every time I say let's go bye bye he asks if we are going to church. -
@Birdie I grew up in church. My mom took me when I was 4, and my dad would just drop us off and leave. I remember asking my Sunday school teacher to pray for my Daddy to stay at church with us. When I was 10, that finally happened. My Dad got saved and sanctified and became a church member and a member of the church board. I stayed active in the church, the choir, the youth group, the nursery, and Sunday school.
-
@haileysmom we grew up catholic, both my DH and I. I was given a choice when I got older. 14-20 I went baptist church. Had some major issues with what was going on and left. Didn't go anywhere until I started going to my current church. It's assembly of God. I work in the children's ministry with the toddlers. This weekend I had the most life altering event happen. I went in retreat and encountered God. I am not the same person who went in there on Friday. I have experienced the freedom that comes with turning it all over to God and letting him handle it. To forgive do that you aren't holding yourself back. It was an amazing time!!!!
-
@Birdie I was never given a choice. It was"forced" on me. I was in Bible quizzing from 1st-6th grade, as long as it was available at my church. I was expected to be the "good girl".
-
I want to give my dd the choices I never had. I want her to feel coming to me with anything and everything, no matter what.
-
@Birdie I like that quote. My mom didn't agree with my choices and held my "mistakes" against me. She still blames my dh because I lost my virginity to him in college, like I'm not capable of making a decision on my own that she doesn't agree with. He's the only person I've ever slept with; I'm not a sexual deviant. My mom even asked me while I was at college without my now dh if I let his best friend "get in my pants".
-
@haileysmom I think you would love my pastors! Check out hope alive freedom church on YouTube if you get a minute!
My mom still dislikes tHe guy I lost mine to. I was 21! -
@Birdie thank you! I was also 21 and starting my 3rd year of college when I gave myself to my now dh. I spent my first 2 years of college living at home with my parents. It was when I transferred to a college 1 1/2 hours away that I finally got my own cell phone. I didn't get a job until after high school graduation. I always had work-study jobs. I spent my student teaching semester living at home with my parents and student teachig at the jr high right down the street from their house.
-
@haileysmom I agree with you that all our beliefs are similar, its basically about what symbolizes the energy/power for you.
I agree with you about sins too. I don't believe that 'sinning' is as black and white as the commandments.
@momofdbb I 100% believe in signs too. I look for signs everywhere. In animals, like you mentioned (I have a thing for bats and they seem to randomly pop up in my life, to me they are a sign of good luck and that I'm on the right path), plants (the day after my fil passed away, a rose bloomed big and bright right outside his window), even in music, and in people I meet along the way.
Also, my mom says my brother and I are old souls too. We are most certainly unique spirits :)
AND your family sounds amazing and special :) -
@batti: The Seventh Sign? It's an old Demi Moore flick. Really a good movie about the apocalypse and the seven signs leading up to it.Bite me, cupcake!

-
I totally agree @HaileysMom! It is important to not judge our children, otherwise how will they feel comfortable talking to us?? God is the only one who can judge me. Anyone else can get lost! lol It is my life and I am an adult. Faith is a very personal thing. How can we judge the worthiness of another human being?? We don't have that right. That's my opinion anyway. Plus, if we judge our children and deem them less than or unworthy, or not good enough does that really say that we love them unconditionally?? That is a mixed message to be sending! :)
-
@scholarmom4 exaxtly!
-
I am faithless. im not religious, I dont believe in any higher power, I believe that death is final although I cant help but ponder the supernatural. if my son decides to follow religion so be it, I will support him but I will likely not participate. I would never judge someone for their beliefs altho I may judge how they go about it. the people standing on street corners preaching and yelling that nonbelievers will go to hell and suffer eternal damnation can suck it.*ad astra per alia porci*
my nuts hang like there aint no curfew
