Oh my god, we've seriously just had an earthquake! I'm kinda freakin out here, we do not live in an earthquake area at all. The only earthquake (earthquake earthquake earthquake!!!!) my parents have ever known was back when my older sis was 10 months old - she's 31 lol

News stories are putting it at around a 5.2 on the Richter scale. No serious damage reports thank fuck but still! It was state wide! like, I thought this shit was localised!

Phew! We hear earthquake stories from overseas' all the time. Does anyone have any stories?

    Where are you?

Try to relax...one in VA last year affected the east coast. It was my first, & I was thrown too.
It was an awful feeling. We didn't feel the aftershocks, but be ready for some possible slight tremors.. >:D<

Earthquakes just suck. I live in California and we have them all the time and I am still terrified of them. Glad no one was hurt and everyone is safe.

Earthquakes are the weirdest feeling ever. Every time I experience one I try to hold things as if that will stop the earthquake.  8-| Glad everyone is ok though!

I'm in (Victoria) Australia. Earthquakes are pretty rare, like really rare but we're still a bit freaked :-SS

This happened just before 9pm. My DS7 came out just after the shaking stopped and said "My bed was wobbling so I looked and the boys weren't shaking it, they were sleeping. So what was it Mum?" I just told him it must have been a really strong wind. But then he came out again when we were talking about it and I didn't wanna lie, so when he asked if it was an earthquake I said yep, pretty weird huh lol he was fine. Didn't want him freaking out as he was going to sleep, but he was fine.

My sis and I on the other hand were pretty freaked. Did a maccas run to calm us lol

It's good to know I'm not the only one who freaked out!

OMG the last recorded earthquake was 109 years ago. Fuck me. Is this the beginning of the end? lol I'm not a big believer of the whole Mayan calendar/end of days shit (more of a zombie gal myself lol) but geez!

ETA: I was supposed to say the last recorded earthquake of this kind.

There's been a few tremors here and there but nothing like this.

Ah, a 5.2 just a little rock and roll...Growing up in Cali, you sleep through those, unless you're right on top of them...

A funny....during a trip to Denver last year I was woken up by what I thought was massive thunderstorms. Nope. Earthquake. Got up the next day to conduct the training I was there to do and in the middle of lunch I get a text from first my daughter " MOMMY MY CHAIR IS SHAKING!!" ( she's a lifeguard ) and then saw on CNN, sure enough, earthquake in DC/VA. ( home ). I seriously think I am done with earthquake karma !

I've felt... 3 or 4 earthquakes in my life, the biggest was during school, I think it was like 5.8 ????? I don't remember, it was like 10 years ago.. but there was no damage or injuries, my friend and I were under our table laughing our asses off as we watched the CONCRETE floor literally ROLLING under us.
I swear to you, we thought it was fun, not high on anything whatsoever. Just 2 goofy 15-ish year old (oh, I guess it was more like 12 years ago..) nerdy dorks in the computer lab busting up while everyone else is quiet and covering their heads.
But you guys already knew I've always been the weird one right??! xD

I can't remember exactly where the epicenter was, but a few years ago I felt the tremors from an earthquake. In the middle of Kentucky! I was a little freaked and totally shocked that I could feel that. It's a very unsettling experience. I couldn't imagine being in the middle of a big one!

Thanks for the stories ladies, it all feels a bit more normal now lol It was about 10km (6.2 miles) deep, thankfully. Would've been pretty full on otherwise!

@MammaTeeRoll. That's how I feel about earthquakes. I worry I will be at work while my kids are at school. I work 30 mins away on a good drive. I live in Utah and we are "due" for a big earthquake....huge one. But they have been saying it for years. We had one a while ago in the middle of the night and it scared the shit out of me. It wasn't even that big lol

HUGS oh man! I'd be so freaked out, thank goodness we never have that stuff here in Ontario. My son would probably really enjoy it though he's super interested in weather and stuff. The kid could watch the discovery channel for hours. Last year, we were driving through our town late at night and the weather was pretty crappy, and there was a Tornado Watch (meaning there COULD be but nothing spotted yet) and all of a sudden the radio stopped mid-song and the guy started shouting "The Watch has just been upgraded to a WARNING folks, take cover immediately, Tornado Warning for Waterloo region and surrounding areas is in effect, please seek shelter RIGHT AWAY!" I looked at my hubby like WTF OMG and then BOOM the wind and rain around the car started sirling around, branches flying everywhere, you couldn't see out the windows, the road was flooded, there was debris and garbage flying everywhere hitting the car etc. I LOST it!!!!!! My poor son was in the back seat crying, I'm hyperventilating, DH is trying to drive us out of the damn way while trying to calm us both down. Eventually we got out of the thick of it, we were close to DH parents house so we took shelter there, but man it was so scary! Next day we found out a tornado had touched down right beside us. EEEEEEK!

Holy fuck @missmama5 I would have had a freaking heart attack.Omg! I'm so glad we don't have to deal with tornadoes. We do get cyclones up north (Queensland, Northern Territory, a bit of New South Wales), but nothing really down here (Victoria) which is what made it so freaky.

@MammaTeeRoll We live in an area that has a lot of seasonal flooding but we're in a high-ish part of town so we're pretty safe. We get a lot of flash flooding up north. Combined with the humidity, I would never move there. I would however go on a roadtrip to Queensland :D
