Karen Huff Klein Bullying Video: Upsetting Footage Causes Community Outrage (VIDEO) (UPDATE)

    Karen Huff Klein,
a bus monitor for the Greece School District in Greece, N.Y., is
receiving an outpouring of support after a ten-minute video of her
enduring vicious bullying while watching over students on a bus ride
    home was uploaded to YouTube.

WARNING: The above video contains explicit language and may be upsetting.

After the footage surfaced, Reddit user razorsheldon posted a call to arms in support of the school official who was brought to tears by the group of children.

    From Reddit:

Now, as awful as this was, there was a silver lining in not
only the universal condemnation of the actions of these kids, but also
in a call for support for this poor woman.
Her name is Karen Klein, and if you are so compelled, please feel free
to reach out to offer support. She has been a widow for 17 years, has
lived in the same town she grew up in and is about to have her 50th high
school reunion in the same school district, and deserves so much better
than the actions shown by those in this video. Let's show her that
there are still good people out there...

In the disturbing video, the children can be heard yelling at Klein,
calling her an "ugly fat ass" and telling the widow, "you don't have a
family because they all killed themselves because they don't want to be
    near you."

Now, under pressure from the local community, the Greece School
District and Greece Police Department are launching investigations into
the incident, telling WHEC-TV that the children involved will "face disciplinary action."

    The Reddit call to arms
has generated many comments showing support, including one that
summarized a local radio show's admiration at Klein's lack of response.
The call to arms also included an email address in case users wanted to reach out to Klein.

I think the best place to get current updates is http://storify.com/bendoernberg/karen-klein-s-internet-army .

I can't bring myself to watch the video. I do appreciate that some good is coming from a bad situation.

What's wrong with the Huffington Post?
I followed the story from a FB post.

@beam - The Huffington post *update* is from Ben Doernberg's storify account. http://storify.com/bendoernberg/karen-klein-s-internet-army

There's nothing wrong with the HP article, I just suggested going right to the source for updates, that is all.

The "vacation fund" for Klein is, at this time, growing by about a thousand dollars every two minutes, maybe more. http://www.indiegogo.com/loveforkarenhklein?c=home

@Gingersnap - odd as the HP article by Laura Hibbard is dated yesterday while the Ben Doernberg is dated 6 hours ago.

@beam - after Laura Hibbards article, directly under the video, it says "UPDATES:" In the next line, you will see "Storify by Ben Doernberg".

I'm not debating who wrote what first, just saying that the HP article is directing people to Ben's page for updates, and I provided a direct link for updates.

Wow! This is the most attention I've gotten on Scary Mommy in days, and it's you getting peeved at me for no fucking reason.

@Gingersnap - The article directs people to many sites for updates including Ben's but many many others. And even the link you gave, says 6 hours... my point is that I don't understand the debate you are engaging in about news sources nor who wrote it first. The article says Reddit helped this youtube video go viral so they are the true source. But that isn't the topic.

The true issue is about a woman being bullied.

@Gingersnap- Wow! What did I do except point out the fact that Ben's article is NOT
    the source. It says "update"
because Laura updated her own story.

@MammaTeeRoll I was wondering that same thing, why didn't the bus driver do something???

@beam @Gingersnap I think in this sort of case as much information, and as many links as can be provided could only be a benefit. The more people click the links, the more attention the story gets, the better for the bus monitor, and the better message it sends to all children; this sort of behaviour will not be accepted.

I would kick my kid's ass!!!  And the school wouldn't need to ban my kids from activities because *I* would.  My kid would have a bed in their room and that would be all!

That is completely unacceptable and those kids are old enough to know better.  And I agree with you ladies, if this was on my bus as a kid it would have been pulled over and the bus driver would've been pissed!

My kids would be doing chores and whatever they could for that poor woman for the next 6 months, grounded for the school year, and an ass whipping on top of apologizing to her in front of the entire school, if not the nation at this point. The blatant lack of respect for anything in a lot of kids these days is disgusting.

Permissiveness on the part of the school is a big problem. This is a school employee. What will their consequences be? Suspension does nothing except give them some time off school, since kids can no longer be failed. Poor woman, that was really ugly.

    Oh my---
I've seen a lot of disturbing things on the internet, but I honestly could not stand to watch that after the first minute and a half.
    That poor woman!
WTF is wrong with kids, that they think that is OK??? In ANY way, shape, or form--how was that ok?

And I haven't read all of the comments, as much as I hate to read when someone says that lol, but I agree with @PallasAthene, that this is an employee of the school, so what it the school doing about it? It happened on the school bus, to a school employee.

I vote for expulsion, plus an insanely high number of hours doing community service. I wonder what their school policy is on harassment and bullying...

What tore me up was her crying... Crying always gets to me! What I don't understand is why the bus driver didn't say anything! And who was filming it?! One of the kids?

This made me so angry, I hope they understand that this is not acceptable. And I hope that vacation fund raises enough money to send her away for months to some exotic island! She deserves it!

I would not have been so reserved, probably would have put those kids in heir place myself but I am blunt and not reserved at all!

I watched the first 2 minutes of the video, and my heart broke for this poor woman. Those kids are total jack-asses. I don't even know how the kids got to that point, that they thought it was ok to say that to an adult. As a teacher, if I would have seen that, I would have ripped those little jerks a new one, had the bus pulled over, called their parents then and there and told them to come and pick them up on the side of the road-- and have the kids repeat to their parents what they were saying. Totally unacceptable. (although, no school board would have allowed that... sigh... we can all dream)

I will say, that I just wanted to her stand up for herself... If she does have to go back to that awful job, I hope the school board sees it and gives her (and the bus driver! seriously? where was (s)he???) a bit of training on how to deal with behavioural kids like that... But really, she's put up with more than her fair share of garbage and should get to retire in peace!

This broke my heart. But I deal with this here. Not as strong but everyday the bus backs into my drive you can hear the kids in the back of the bus yelling at our bus driver. Telling him to shut up, go back to his seat, calling him a loser. My dd is 8 and has been tormented in the bus. Called every name in the book. Getting off the bus crying. I have called and gone to the school several times. These kids need a large dose of manners and respect.

I couldn't get that out of my mind yesterday. Watched the 7 minute video...sick when I realized it had been going on before it was filmed & was continuing after the kid stopped. And there are 3 films, just that we know of? And the kid who posted them was involved in this. He thought it was so freaking funny he should film her torture & share it with their friends??

I don't know what you could show me as a parent that would illustrate my failure as one more than this. An woman, a senior citizen, a widow, being ripped apart by teenage boys. That fact that the one kid kept touching her!! The nerve! Mocking that she was poor?! Telling her that her family hated her? Something about wanting to kill themselves because of her? Did they know her son committed suicide??

Then you watch this woman. And hear her comment that she'll be glad when this school year is over. Omg. That was the understatement of the year. How many hours has she endured this?
She never loses it on them. She maintains composure.
And they mock her purse. And the sayings on it. She tells them they're reminders to herself.
    "live with dignity".
I think she's accomplished that one...

So, I'm disgusted & appalled by these what? 5 or 6 kids, & the other kids not stopping this.
Literally feeling nauseous that this is what we've come to.

Then I check out the links. The marines who sent her the video of support. The person who decided to start a vacation fund for her. The national news showing this story as an example of terrible behavior. The kids' family, neighbors, friends, everyone seeing this. Uncensored. Like a flashlight on a roach. Thousands of people sending her money, telling her they're sorry she's had to deal with this. And once again, the power of love & support wins. This lady knows in a big way that we all care. More than most people will ever get. Literally, the world is rallying around her.
    Too cool. =D>

The little shits deserve whatever they get and then some. God help them if they were my kids.

In better news, though, I saw that there had already been over $456K raised for her to go on vacation. Hell with that amount, she could probably retire soon!! That warmed my heart. It definitely does not excuse the kids' behavior, but it does help restore a little faith in humanity!

@Rosie08, I know you're right. I think there should be zero tolerance for abuse of school employees. They do a pretty thankless job and don't get paid much if at all for what they do.

That poor woman. I keep seeing this on the news and everywhere and while my heart breaks for us-those little turds are our future. Makes me warm and fuzzy inside thinking about how they'll run this country in a few years...(sarcasm)

What i was glad to hear was a few canadian and american folks have gotten together and have offered her money so that she can retire.. That is what i like about this story.. What i hate is that could have been any of our kids on that bus and what position would that leave us in. We would all be apologizing but our kids would be too.. Those kids are douche canoes..
