As most of you know, Scary Mommy Nation was created to alleviate a little bit of stress suffered by Scary Mommies. It's a work in progress, with the board members and community members constantly trying to figure out the best way to make a difference within our community.

I'm excited to announce a new part of SMN, The Birthday ProjectThe Birthday Project will ensure that every child of a Scary Mommy Community member will receive a birthday gift on his or her birthday... because moms have enough to stress about, without adding birthdays to the list!

    The details:

    • To be eligible for The Birthday Project, you must be a member of the Scary Mommy Community, with at least 100 posts on the message boards.

    • You must be financially struggling and otherwise unable to provide a gift for your child.

    • One application needs to be submitted per child.

    • Applications should be submitted no less than two weeks before your child’s birthday. (Please allow at least four weeks for international shipping.)

Toys are broken down into age groups and will be packaged and shipped from aMuse Toys in Baltimore. Please pick the age-appropriate category and "shop" for a toy:

    • Once you have your toy picked out, you can apply for it here. Have fun!

Let us know if you have any questions!!!

    Toddler toys (ages 1-3)

    Pre-Elementary toys (ages 3-5)

    Early Elementary toys (ages 6-8)

    Elementary toys (ages 8-10)

    Tween toys (ages 12+)

Okay, not that I'm in a position to now, but if some of the scarys want to send in gifts, where would they send them?  (Would slightly used toys be okay?  I'm sure there is PLENTY of slightly used toys between all of us!)

I was wondering this too, I don't really have extra money to donate, and not struggling enough to ask for help, I know there are many other moms here who need the help much more than I, but my kids are LOADED with toys and clothes I'd send to a mom who needed it.

Oh my god! Genius!! Benji didn't get a birthday present this year, he got a picnic in the park as a party. I hope by next year I am in a situation to be able to donate AND get benji a present :)

This is such a fabulous Idea!!!!
“There are two basic motivating forces: fear and love. When we are afraid, we pull back from life. When we are in love, we open to all that life has to offer with passion, excitement, and acceptance. We need to learn to love ourselves first, in all our glory and our imperfections. If we cannot love ourselves, we cannot fully open to our ability to love others or our potential to create. Evolution and all hopes for a better world rest in the fearlessness and open-hearted vision of people who embrace life.”

@TorturedbyTWINS @Batti You guys are awesome for thinking that way. I'm really trying to streamline this and make it as easy as possible and am working with a local toy store to supply the toys. But,I'll think about that!!

I will have to remember this for my DS. His birthday is December 21st, then we have Christmas, and I just found out that I'm having not one, but 2 bundles of joy added to my family in mid January :) This will make things a lot less stressful on us this year.

@ScaryMommy... the rule about 100to posts on the message boards... does that include comments on the boards, or is it just threads you've personally started?

    @Scarymommy...

From the bottom of my heart, I want to thank you. Today, I came home to a toy for my son, who turns two on September 3rd! The past two years have been hell on me, with my husband out of work, and his unemployment running out back in April has put the stress of paying ALL the bills solely on me. I don't make much, and knew his birthday probably would be a couple of dollar store items and maybe a cake. Seeing that toy sitting on the dining room table made me cry. He won't probably remember how special this toy is, but I always will. Thank you, so much. For seeing that mommies like me smetimes need help, a shoulder, a hug, or a laugh... and for making it possible for us to come together. Most of all, thank you for the smile that will light my boy's face when he opens his gift on his 2nd birthday. I can truthfully say, I LOVE YOU!!! I love all the scary mommies.
