It’s no surprise that the wealthy send their offspring to overnight camp for the summers, and it’s no surprise that they need some help preparing said offspring for their summers of fun. What is surprising, or at least eye-roll inducing? The fact that some moms are paying “trunk packing” pros $1,000 to pack camp trunks for their children. Because the task is far too important to assign to the nanny or housekeeper… obviously.
Barbara Reich of Resourceful Consultants, one such “expert,” told the New York Post that it takes her three to four hours to pack for clients, a fee which they are happy to pay. “I talked three people off the camp ledge,” Reich told The Post. “For a lot of mothers, particularly when their child is going away for the first time, it’s very stressful. Clients will say, ‘I need to touch and feel the sheets for softness.’ ”
