Padma, Fluff and Stinky Cheese

Hilshire Farm sponsored a booth at BlogHer and I was picked to make a sandwich for Top Chef judge Padma Lakshmi. I’m not a food blogger, but I love Top Chef and it sounded like a fun way to spend an hour in NYC. Plus, I make pretty good sandwiches.

Or, not.

I joked about making mom food like peanut butter and fluff or grilled cheese on white bread with the crusts cut off for the great Padma. Instead, I settled on turkey with brie cheese, raspberry jam and arugula on pumpernickel bread. It was a bad call. To put it mildly.

Meet the judges:

See that look in Nicole’s eyes? She was out to get me from the beginning.

It’s not my fault that her underdeveloped palate can’t appreciate a properly aged cheese.

The poor kids all looked like they were all going to vomit. As far as I know, they didn’t, but I booked it out of there pretty fast.

But, not before snapping a picture with Padma, who was really excited to pose with me.

Let’s just say it wasn’t the shining moment of my weekend.

Next time, I’ll go with the fluff.

Oh…I am a huge Top Chef fan too, and I’m so very jealous of your opportunity – that is awesome!!!! But yeah, Miss Padma does not look like she was lurving on the whole chick blogger conference, huh?

Maybe somebody gave her bad food beforehand. Or maybe she was just gassy. She is a mom now, after all.

What a waste of perfectly rotten treats! (the cheese I mean)

I’m sure I would have enjoyed it immensely! I love some cheese!

And I can bake….not to toot my own Tuba or anything….but I can rival Paula Dean on Southern desserts! But my kids prefer Jello pudding cups to my homemade perfection. It utterly mind numbing how their palate could be so indiscriminate!!

brie is an acquired taste. My totally adult husband and I were at a friend’s party. We were talking to our hostess when my hubs reaches over and grabs a huge blob of brie on a cracker. I waited. his expression was like those kids. Our gracious hostess hands him a napkin and told him to spit. lol
