Moms in Need

Motherhood is the most wonderful and beautiful experience in the world, so why aren’t you constantly surrounded by rainbows and unicorns? Whatever the reason, you are not alone. Here is a growing list of sites and resources to aid in getting you the help you need and the people you can relate to. They are out there, I promise…

If you are suicidal, please call 1-800-273-TALK (8255) The number will automatically direct you to the local crisisline/suicide hotline based on your location. There is also a national chat crisis line at www.crisischat.org.

Band Back Together is the brainchild of the amazing Aunt Becky from Mommy Wants Vodka. The group blog bravely covers topics ranging from abuse to rape to mental illness to child loss. The resource section can help you find pretty much any help you are looking for. It’s a really amazing place to get lost in and chances are, you’ll find what you are looking for.

Unspoken Grief is a safe place to share, talk, support and learn about the impact of miscarriage, stillbirth and neonatal loss in our lives. The journey should not be silenced.

Postpartum Progress provides the most comprehensive and accessible information available on perinatal mental illness for pregnant women and new mothers.

Violenece Unsilenced is a website where readers submit their personal experiences of domestic violence, sexual abuse, and rape.

Postpartum Support International is dedicated to helping women suffering from perinatal mood and anxiety disorders, including postpartum depression, the most common complication of childbirth. We also work to educate family, friends and health care providers so that moms and moms-to-be can get the support they need and recover.

The National Infertility Association is a non-profit organization with the only established, nationwide network mandated to promote reproductive health and to ensure equal access to all family building options for men and women experiencing infertility or other reproductive disorders.

Scars for Love (a labor of love and the passion of Andrea Updyke) is a place where women can come together and talk through their experiences of cesarean without fear of judgement. Some will share stories of joy, some of pain. Whatever your story, please know that you are welcome.

To Write Love on Her Arms is a non-profit movement dedicated to presenting hope and finding help for people struggling with depression, addiction, self-injury and suicide.  TWLOHA exists to encourage, inform, inspire and also to invest directly into treatment and recovery.

My Postpartum Voice is full of various stories, resources, and insights for every struggling mother, for partners, family members, and even for professionals looking for a glimpse into the mind of a survivor.

Easy to Love but Hard to Raise is for anyone raising a child who is easy to love, but difficult to raise. The site is available to support, share stories, commiserate, give tips, and provide safe haven for anyone parenting children impacted by ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder), SPD (Sensory Processing Disorder), PBD (Pediatric Bipolar Disorder), OCD (Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, PDD (Pervasive Developmental Disorder), FASD (Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder) or any other situation that takes the already difficult job of parenting and adds to challenge.

A Mom’s View of ADHD is a place to see that we are not alone in our special parenting struggles. On this website you’ll find the personal stories of eight moms parenting children with ADHD: what has worked (and not worked) for us; our struggles and adventures; links to helpful information and other similar stories; and a network of parents of children with ADHD who support one another. As well, you’ll find helpful articles from our ADHD Consultants, many of whom also parent a child with ADHD.

PPD to Joy is a site providing support for mothers and families struggling with guilt, anxiety, and postpartum depression.

Iceberg has been set up to support both male and female sufferers along the path to recovery from all forms of eating disorders including anorexia, bulimia and emotional over-eating.

The Mom Pledge is about women standing up, speaking out, and coming together to eradicate online bullying among moms.

Ever wanted to ask a special needs parent a question, but haven’t known how? My friend Ellen from Love that Max partnered up on a post that I’m really proud of. Read Ask a Special Needs Parent and get those questions answered.

Thanks for pulling these resources together and for the nod to my blog. There are some beautifully written, heart felt pieces in that list … its like a little treasure trove for moms who need a reminder that none of us is really alone in this!

Thank you for including us in your list. I’ve been checking out the other posts and they are all such great resources. What a wonderful reminder that no man (or woman) is an island.

I’d also like to suggest Sidelines National High Risk Pregnancy Support Network for anyone suffering from any high risk condition that leads to bedrest during pregnancy. No one understands just how difficult bedrest can be unless they’ve done it. Sidelines will match you with someone (if you’re interested) with a similar history as you and facilitate communication with them either through email or phone. It’s such a comfort to have someone to talk to that can relate to exactly what you’re going through!

Wow ~this is an incredible compilation of resources! Very considerate & thoughtful of you to take the time to put it together. I know this had to take a lot of time and effort ~Thank You. It reminds during a very difficult, bring me to my knees kind of time in my life when someone told me about the AA Program and then with the help of others aiding in my getting sober…saving my life!!! That was 10 years ago. When someone helps another great things happen ~miracles!

Someone very dear to me once (often) said: “Amy, if you want to keep it you must give it away”…in my travels around the blogosphere I see Scary Mommy a lot; I find your style and way of blogging very impressive!

Thank you so much for this. We should always remember that even though we may feel alone, many people around us are suffering in silence. Reach out. Hug. Repeat.

I agree wholeheartedly. I can’t believe I am only finding this now – it needs so much more promotion! Why isn’t every new mum told about this website and the others like it??
