Have you ever heard of Sir Richard Owen?
I hadn’t. Or, maybe I had years ago but like most other information I learned before motherhood, it evaporated from my brain.
But, I digress.
Tonight, my neighbor was over retrieving her daughter from my house. In her arms was her (most adorable) baby boy. Lily peered over him.
He looks just like Sir Richard Owen, she pronounced.
Huh, we asked looking at her?
He looks just like Sir Richard Owen. Look it up on the computer!
So I did.
And he does.
Remarkably.

Lily tells me Sir Richard Owen named the dinosaurs. Wikipedia confirms.
She’s way too smart for me.

Now THAT is spooky! I don’t think I’ve ever known who Sir Richard Owen is, but I will remember him now :)

that might be the awesomest thing I’ve read in a long while…. go Lily!
Wow. I’m impressed!
Incredible! I cannot believe it- I wouldn’t have known who it was if asked.
Wow, impressive.
Good for Lily.
Not so good for the baby.

I swear, he really is an adorable baby!! They all just resemble old men at that age. Except Evan, who totally looked Chinese.
You’re sweet Jill. :) As Mom of said “adorable baby” I have to admit I do see the resemblance, especially in the bags under his eyes. Hopefully he’ll grow up cuter …
But I’m with you – I’m just still amazed that Lilly made that reference! Never heard of him.
I love this stuff – Can’t wait until my son is old enough to come out with something as good as that!!

Sir Richard Owen clearly should have named the most clever dinosaur a Lilyosaurus.

Dude, I had NO idea who the hell Sir Richard Owen was before this post. I feel smarter having benefited from your child’s intelligence. :)

Your daughter is brilliant…and observant. This will serve her well in life…and drive you crazy when she’s a teenager. Enjoy it while she is still young and can’t outsmart you yet. (I’m speaking from experience on this one. Love that my kids are smarter than I am, so long as they are not using their intelligence against me.)

The things we learn from our kids never cease to amaze me. And now I know too – Sir Richard Owen, good to finally learn about you.
Who the hell is that kid hanging out with? You must sever those ties immediately. Time is of the essence. Head my warning.

Seriously. Freaking private school and she’s already smarter than me at 6.
I have to say she’s brilliant. A few years back, my now 6yo was big into the states and capitals and maps. One day, my mom was over and he recited off a list of state capitals to her. Ever since, she thinks he’s a genius. It’s amazing what they remember and grasp onto.

I’m having a hard time picturing that baby as adorable if he looks like that guy. I think you’re just being nice. ;0)
Smart kid though!
I honestly dont think I EVER learned about Sir Richard Owen..lol… Your daughter is too funny.

OK–that’s a little spooky. The fact that Lily knows all about Sir Richard Owen AND the fact that your neighbor’s child looks like him.

Seriously. Except for the same freaky double jointed thumb, we have pretty much nothing in common.
That is historic!

I’m in utter, complete awe.
I wish I was as smart as Lily.
(But who doesn’t?)
Two things.
1/ Your kid is scary amazing.
2/ that is one creepy looking dude. I hope the baby grows out of it.

This post reminds me that I know at some point during my child’s schooling I know I will be incapable of helping him with his math homework. Thank god my husband is an accountant.
Yay, Team Lily!!!
Was your neighbor insulted when she saw Sir Richard Owen’s photo?!
Nah, she had a good sense of humor. Plus, her baby is precious. If he were ugly, I would never have posted this. :)
Wow!! I never knew that nor have I ever given any thought to how dinosaurs got their names. I can not wait to use this on my husband & his friends … It’s gonna be PRICELESS!!! YES!! Please give your daugter a high 5 for me!!! ;)
I guess you feel a cross between mortified and proud. But mostly proud. My ‘honest’ daughter is now 12, I err more in the direction of mortified nowadays…

HA! That is the best picture EVER. I’ve never heard of the guy, but paleontology looks right up his alley. Go Lily.
That’s awesome. When my son was a baby he looked JUST like Albert Einstein. More than a few people remarked on it. But, Sir Richard Owen? That’s WAY impressive.
I am super impressed and I am RELATED to Richard Owen lol! I have a family who is really into genealogy (it goes beyond a normal hobby since I remember spending my childhood looking over micro-phish to find birth records for my mother and grandmother). This is why I know who is and know he was not taught in school. I had a book about dinosaurs that mentioned him, but most do not.
That’s AWESOME!! My daughter will be SO impressed!
My grandmother always said each of her children were genuises . . . until they went to school. I remember one of my son’s friends in the first grade able to SPELL all the dinosaur names! Sigh! I wish I was as smart as Lily, too – and had a daughter with her name – that was one of my favorites!
