The Best Babysitter Ever

How did mothers ever cook dinner before the invention of television?

Seriously, Scooby-Doo, you’re a life saver. Bless you.

Oh my gosh this just made me laugh out loud! My little guy was standing in front of the tv like a zombie the other day, but I was able to eat my lunch and get off a few emails…..Seriously, how was it done so many years ago??

2 Jen March 4, 2010 at 9:28 pm

Seriously, how did Mommies do anything without TV?

I’m training my 12-month old to watch TV – she is not into it yet… but that’s my excuse not to have dinner ready… or do the laundry… or clean the house…

haha mine is Yo Gabba Gabba!

9 Kim March 4, 2010 at 9:43 pm

gah! That is such a CUTE shot of all of them so close together and positioned exactly the same way. What kind of a TV do you have? A 7 inch screen? Mine would never get that close unless they absolutely had to! I’m so jealous!

LOL, no, it’s huge! The like to cuddle on the ottoman. I’m telling you, TV brings peace and togetherness. ;)

11 Krystyn March 4, 2010 at 9:44 pm

Seriously? I don’t know how they did it!

PS. Your kiddos look sooo much a like at that angle.

I know!!! That was my first thought– Lily & Ben look like twins!

13 Zoey @ Good Goog March 4, 2010 at 9:47 pm

I have no idea. The TV is a total lifesaver when I really need to distract the toddler, get something done or have just a little bit of time to myself. Her current addictions include Sesame Street and Bear in the Big Blue House.

My favorite thing about this is the bling on your son’s finger. Adorable!

Love that. And, honestly, I can’t imagine not allowing Oliver to not watch TV before the age of 3 like the “experts” suggest. I thank god every day around 4pm for the invention of television!

We had to buy a second video of The Lion King, as my son wore out the first one. Yes, I am a horrid mother that let her son stay glued to a movie over and over….because it was the ONLY time he ever sat still. I could count on 90 minutes of non-destruco-boy each day and it was heaven.

37 Mrs.Mayhem March 5, 2010 at 8:57 am

When my 3 year old gave up his afternoon nap I imposed mandatory Sesame Street watching time after lunch. Sometimes he wants to watch something else but I stick with Sesame Street since it is 60 minutes long!

40 Joanne @ Barely Domestic Mama March 5, 2010 at 9:19 am

Too funny! :) Looks like they are quite happy and calm. Scooby-Doo creeps the bejesus out of me, so my kid will be out of luck with putting on that show while I am in the house.

I was feeling guilty about this very thing. My 60 year old client at the moment replied with “have a couple stiff drinks it makes the witching hours bearable.” I knew there was a reason why my parents generation is less stressed out!

43 Michelle March 5, 2010 at 9:59 am

Agreed!

44 Kate Coveny Hood March 5, 2010 at 10:27 am

See here’s the problem with letting your kids watch too much TV. When you want them out of your hair – the TV magic doesn’t work. Which would be why I have 3 sous chefs whenever I’m in the kitchen. The big one has sensory issues and can’t keep his hands out of flour. Good times.

45 WebSavvyMom March 5, 2010 at 10:56 am

–>Did you hear that loud AMEN I just shouted at the computer monitor? He’s called “Scooby Doo Doo Doo” in my house.

I am a total believer in letting kids watch tv to entertain them while “adults” take care of things.

47 Molly March 5, 2010 at 2:32 pm

It was far more acceptable to just put them in a room and close the door back then.

But yes, as much as I hate the Pokemon TV shows and find that Elmo’s voice makes me want to crawl out of my skin, if my kids want more then chicken nuggets for dinner, I can find a way to love these shows.

48 Mom2Miles March 5, 2010 at 2:51 pm

My son came home from a playdate yesterday and announced his friend’s family doesn’t own a TV. I was immediately appalled, skeptical, and shamed, all at the same time. Obviously, I have not made peace with my kids’ TV watching. Given that my 3yo is super verbal & social I don’t think it’s done him any significant harm, but I can’t shake the feeling of judgment that non-TV families must have for “people like us.” BTW, I grew up in a household where TV watching was very restricted. Boy, did that backfire!
