Are you following me on Twitter? If you aren’t, you’re miss such gems as:
How can you live without those?! I mean, really.
Now, Twitter is a fine enough application on its own, but one you’ve been using it for a while, you might want to add some excitement. I’m finally getting used to Tweet Grid, and love Tweetie on my iPhone, but am the rare tweeter (twitterer?) who simply uses twitter.com as home base. It’s the only one that doesn’t make me feel totally overwhelmed and dizzy. I’m pathetic like that, though, and there are countless options to try out. Here are the add-ons that I use and love:
1. Buzzom: Unfollow people who aren’t following you back. Cross-follow other Twitter users. And follow those people who are following you back.
2. Twitoria or Untweeps: Lets you find followers who haven’t posted in the past week, month or six months. Because what’s the point in following people who never tweet?
3. Twitterless sends you a DM letting you know who has unfollowed you so you can promptly unfollow them and give them a virtual middle finger. (Or not.)
4. Twitter Patterns has fun backgrounds to snag.
5. Twitter Snooze lets you “snooze” friends for a certain time period. It’s great if a particular person won’t shut up about a particular contest she’s having that you’re sick to death of hearing about it. You can just shut her up for however long you wan- don’t you wish real life friends worked like that?
6. Tweet Later: Schedule tweets, save drafts, auto-follow and more. You can also auto-welcome people, but I know you’d never dream of doing that.
7. Twubble: Find friends of friends to follow. Quick and easy.
8. Twitterator: Allows you to follow a list of people all at once. It’s so much easier than adding people one at a time.
9. Twitter buttons: There are countless sites offering them, but these are the best I’ve found.
10. Favotter: Find out who favorited (Yes, that’s a word in Twitter-land) your tweets.

I cracked up on the sauce in the neck tweet. I find stuff in my son’s neck rolls all the time. It gets so gross in there. Thanks for the list, it’s great for folks like me who just jumped on bored twitter and are still trying to figure out the whole thing. I didn’t even know they had twitter applications.

Thanks for the tips! Twitoria is one I haven’t heard of and looks very useful. Do you use the favorite feature at all? I haven’t looked at my favorites in a while and just stumbled across a list of awesome tweets that I put aside for later admiring :D
Have you used Favotter? It lets you see who favorites your tweets.

I think Tweepular looks pretty cool, but heard there might be a few kinks to be ironed out. So far, so good. Tells you who is following you that you’re not, who you’re following that isn’t following back, mutual follows, and soon to be offering a list of who has recently unfollowed you.
Virtual middle finger – Ha! Sometimes, you just have to do it.

Oh no – I’m an untweep! I like the idea of Twitter…but I hardly ever tweet. I try to every once in a while – but it’s like walking into a crowded room and saying something. Only the people right next to you actually hear you and they either (a) are too busy talking to each other that they don’t have time to acknowlege the fact that you are SO TIRED after that hour of trying to get your kids to go down for their nap already; (b) have no idea who you are because they only followed you because you followed them and that was back when they had no followers and would pretty much follow anyone; or (c) don’t even notice your tweet because they’re following over 1K people.
I really need to be a better twitterer…

Well, I find it hard to keep up- for a while I auto followed everyone but then ended up following spammers so I stopped. And it’s annoying to weed through and guess who is legit. That’s why I want people I “know” to tell me to follow them!

Oh, fantastic! Thank you for these recommendations! I’ll usually try one or two here and there, but this list is awesome! Will definitely be trying out Twitterless. I forget which one came first, but I was using that and it just sucked. Bigtime.
For apps to follow the Twitter stream, I’ve been using Seesmic. That one was a little overwhelming at first, but I absolutely love it now that I’ve got the hang of it. My only gripe is that if you use multiple computers (We’ve got a desktop and a laptop) your login credentials don’t save your groups and preferences, so it’s like starting all over again.

i use ubertwitter on my blackberry LOVE IT, but you need to change the settings to NOT show your location. or by default it will tell everyone where you live *eeek*

I just really jumped on the Twitter bandwagon last week when I was on vacation without my computer, but had my phone. I like that I can send my tweets to Facebook, so my friends/family who have no idea what Twitter is can be reminded that I have a new blog post. I learned it by watching you…. :)
