In the basement, earlier this week, the phone rings…

Lily, I call, I think it’s Daddy. Please pick it up?

Lily: Hi, Daddy… good… I played and colored… good… how’s work? are you in Chicago? I miss you… we’re playing with the trains… Ben is here and Ev… good… I miss you… when will you be home? I had fun at school… I didn’t nap… Mommy is here… feeding Ev… applesauce… ok… Ben wants to talk, hold on…

Ben: Hi, Daddy. we’re downstairs… I ate my yogurt… good… I napped… playing… are you working? When you be home? uh-huh… ok… Mommy? ok… bye, Daddy…

Me: Hey, love. Where are you?

Him, (sounding less than amused:) Ma’am, this is Mike from AT&T. I’m calling to let you know about some new options for your plan…

Whoops. And I told him it wasn’t a good time to talk. In retrospect, I owed him more than that. Sorry, Mike. But, please tell your fellow telemarketers about my little receptionist. She can talk for hours and she’ll be answering calls from you people from now on.

I can babysit her in my home and she can answer my phone all day long if she wants too.

What a great post.

Come visit my food blog, I made these rice crispy treats that your kids would love.

I love messing with Telemarketers… Hubby actually has a few ‘character’ he plays just to mess with them… my fave is when he’s grumpy, hard of hearing old man… good stuff.

OMG it’s amazing the guy didn’t hang up or he kept them going, that is so hialrious.

Thank God for caller ID.

I usually don’t answer when the ID says “unavailable” or its just a 1-800#… but having the kids answer the phone is something I will have to try!

Oh that is awesome! I want to hire them! Mine would just answer “hello” and then stand there mutely making the ‘I dunno’ shrug until I took the phone. Oh! I know! You can sell the recording and we can push play when we get a telemarketer! The royalties would pay off your internet bill! :)

I love it! I used to the phone to my daughter when she was a toddler whenever a telemarketer called. She would tell them all about her potty training adventures. :)

What an absolutely brilliant idea!My son’s favourite topic of conversation at the moment is his willy, so that’s going to work wonders of cold calls from businesses I want to avoid!

Mike from AT&T should be on a new prime time reality show called Eligible Bachelors in Call Centers. That's hilarious.

That is too funny. When we got calls from telemarketers, I always handed the phone to one of my girls. They LOVE to talk on the phone. Doesn’t really matter who it is. We don’t get calls anymore :-)

You know what really stinks, the no-call list law had a time limit on it, and its running out in the next year :-(

My way of dealing with telemarketers is to respond to the question or statment: I’d like to talk to you…..with “Oh thank god, you know it gets so lonely in here now that my cellmate was moved to solitary…”
