In the basement, earlier this week, the phone rings…
Lily, I call, I think it’s Daddy. Please pick it up?
Lily: Hi, Daddy… good… I played and colored… good… how’s work? are you in Chicago? I miss you… we’re playing with the trains… Ben is here and Ev… good… I miss you… when will you be home? I had fun at school… I didn’t nap… Mommy is here… feeding Ev… applesauce… ok… Ben wants to talk, hold on…
Ben: Hi, Daddy. we’re downstairs… I ate my yogurt… good… I napped… playing… are you working? When you be home? uh-huh… ok… Mommy? ok… bye, Daddy…
Me: Hey, love. Where are you?
Him, (sounding less than amused:) Ma’am, this is Mike from AT&T. I’m calling to let you know about some new options for your plan…
Whoops. And I told him it wasn’t a good time to talk. In retrospect, I owed him more than that. Sorry, Mike. But, please tell your fellow telemarketers about my little receptionist. She can talk for hours and she’ll be answering calls from you people from now on.

Brilliant!
xxx
Is she available mornings?
thanks for visiting my blog ;) this is too funny!!
I can babysit her in my home and she can answer my phone all day long if she wants too.
What a great post.
Come visit my food blog, I made these rice crispy treats that your kids would love.
That is awesome! LOL!
I love messing with Telemarketers… Hubby actually has a few ‘character’ he plays just to mess with them… my fave is when he’s grumpy, hard of hearing old man… good stuff.
OMG it’s amazing the guy didn’t hang up or he kept them going, that is so hialrious.
Thank God for caller ID.
I usually don’t answer when the ID says “unavailable” or its just a 1-800#… but having the kids answer the phone is something I will have to try!
nice. i’m sicking the incoherent 2yr old on the next telemarketer…
Oh that is awesome! I want to hire them! Mine would just answer “hello” and then stand there mutely making the ‘I dunno’ shrug until I took the phone. Oh! I know! You can sell the recording and we can push play when we get a telemarketer! The royalties would pay off your internet bill! :)
I love it! This is hysterical and brilliant all at the same time!
That is too funny! and what’s even funnier is he was talking back to her!!
That’s adorable!! I’ve often thought about putting a screaming kid on the phone when I get one of these calls…
That is hilarious! Just goes to show you that kids really do think everything is all about them sometimes, she never even noticed daddy was not on the line. LOL
Maybe I should let Aden answer the phone for now on. That was good! Thanks for sharing — Much Love
I love it! I used to the phone to my daughter when she was a toddler whenever a telemarketer called. She would tell them all about her potty training adventures. :)
Whoa. Hilarious.
I’M going to do that next time. Just keep on talking like it’s my sister or something, see if they care?
Oh my god! That’s priceless! I wonder why he didn’t just hang up? I’m going to let Tessa answer the phone next time I think it’s a telemarketer. lol
This is absolutely PRICELESS!!! Can I borrow your receptionist!?!
lol! Okay that is hilarious! I love that your kids had a full on conversation with the guy! I wonder what he was thinking on the other line…
Especially when you said Hey Love! loL!
What an absolutely brilliant idea!My son’s favourite topic of conversation at the moment is his willy, so that’s going to work wonders of cold calls from businesses I want to avoid!
I love that they both got in on the action.
Absolutely perfect. Love it!
That is hilarious!
Mike from AT&T should be on a new prime time reality show called Eligible Bachelors in Call Centers. That's hilarious.
That is too funny. When we got calls from telemarketers, I always handed the phone to one of my girls. They LOVE to talk on the phone. Doesn’t really matter who it is. We don’t get calls anymore :-)
HAHA. That was hilarious. Love it.
hahahaha!! take THAT at&t!!!
So funny, I need to try that strategy here. My daughter can talk for hours and is sure to make the other person hang up before she does!
that is so funny. LOL!!!
That was hilarious! I would’ve paid money to have seen Mike’s face on the other line.
Ha ha ha! FANTASTIC! Can she hire out?
Mike from ATT is still laughing from this call.
Probably one of the best ones that he has had in months!!
too funny…my kids would have been like…”my mom says i can’t talk to strangers so ummm….bye” and hung up!! lol this is so cute!! take care!!
You know what really stinks, the no-call list law had a time limit on it, and its running out in the next year :-(
My way of dealing with telemarketers is to respond to the question or statment: I’d like to talk to you…..with “Oh thank god, you know it gets so lonely in here now that my cellmate was moved to solitary…”
