The possible ear hole had me going. I used to work some Saturday mornings. One such Saturday, my husband was home with our 1st born. He called me in a panic that our son's ear was bleeding, and it was ripped, what should he do? I said, "Do what I do. Call the peds office. They'll tell you if you need seen or not." He brought our son to me at work (just a few miles) and made me do triage and assess, etc. I still make fun of him for that, and we still don't know how our son ripped that ear, but he's got the scar to prove it happened.

We ignored our four year old son choking on a sucker in the backseat because he was always making annoying sounds when we traveled. We discovered that he was chocking AFTER he was able to hurl the piece of candy out of his throat as it hit the windshield. We turned our heads to see him crying and saying, I was chocking. Please don't tell your pediatrician, we still feel awful about it to this day.

I love how we worry so much about how the pediatrician is going to judge us as parents. I do the same thing...worry I have been doing something horribly wrong as a parent and they are going to expose me with their pointed questions.

Funny story, you write very well. I remember when the doctor told me that I could go home with my first child. My reaction was trepidation. I was really hoping to stay a few extra days to get more practice, even after reading "What to Expect" a million times. I was thinking "are they really letting me go home with this baby? I know nothing!"

I so remember those days when you're just sure that A) your baby probably has something terribly wrong, and B) it's surely all your fault, because, after all, who are you to think you could pull this whole raising kids thing anyway?

Both of my girls were face claw-ers. And it didn't matter how short their nails were. The oldest scratched herself at her earlobe one night when she was about 8 months old and I walked in her room to blood all over her sheets, face, hands. It looked like she had butchered a large animal in there. And the 6 month old has reduced both church nursery workers and her grandfather to tears with the scratching the back of her head so much it bleeds sneaky trick she plays.

Our old ped was never on time, it drove me insane because we'd only see the doc for about 15 seconds. The new practice in our new town is calling us back before we sit down most of the time.
